Add The Final Touches
Your anime drawing is almost complete! Sketch two vertical lines directly under the face for the neck, making these as close together as youd like depending on how skinny or wide the neck should be.;
Finish up the facial features before adding in the final touches.
Anime hair will be the biggest difference in your drawing, depending on if youre working on an anime girl drawing or an anime boy drawing.
For boy hair, draw a small dot about one inch from the top of the face circle. From here, youll draw curved lines down to create a floppy hairstyle thats common for male characters. Youll frame these out by looping the lines up on the other side of your first lines to create shapes that look like a palm tree.
Hair on anime characters is typically messy so dont worry about it looking perfect.
For girl characters, youll start with those same curved lines that you would on a boy character, but keep these to only one or two lines. Youll then draw bigger curved lines around the outside of the face to create longer hair. Shade the outer edges of the hair to make it stand out and add any additional lines youd like to give it some more shape.
Once your drawing is complete, erase the guidelines before coloring or going over in ink.
Once youve added in the hair, you can erase your original guidelines and your drawing is finished!

Once you finish the line drawing go over it with a darker stroke.

Anime and manga are popular Japanese forms of animation and comics that have a very distinctive art style. If you want to draw your favorite character or design one on your own, start by designing their head and face so you can sketch what they look like. When you first start the head, draw the outline and the basic shapes so you can properly place the features. Once you add the eyes, nose, ears, and mouth, you can erase your guidelines and sketch in a hairstyle. With a bit of practice and patience, youll be able to design anime faces in no time!
Add Colour And Shading
To color and shade our character you can use what is known as Cel Shading. Shading with no gradients commonly used in anime.
We will shade the character according to normal lighting conditions . The main light source will be above and in front of the character. This means the main shadow will be below such as the shadow on the neck cast by head.
For the front view you can also add some small shadows to emphasize the chest and stomach muscles as well as some shadows on the inner side of the legs and below the knees.
For the side view most of the shadows will be along the back side of the character.

Male Anime Face Shape Breakdown
Before going into drawing specific character archetypes its a good idea to first analyze the characteristic features of male anime faces. While there is quite a bit of variation in the anime and manga style generally all anime characters tend to have large eyes, small noses amd simplified mouths with no lips.
Younger anime and manga male characters are often drawn with almost the exact same faces as females. Older male characters are more likely to have longer faces, wider chins, and smaller/narrower eyes . For this tutorial we will use a very generic male face that can be either a high school student or a younger adult.
The generic shape of this type of male anime face can basically be broken down into the three simple shapes in the example above.
Cleaning Up The Drawing
Once all of the facial features are placed and you finished drawing the hair clean up all of the guidelines and erase the parts of the head that are hidden by the hair. You may want to go over your drawing with a thicker stroke or darker lines as well.
Once you are done you should have a nice and clean outline drawing of an anime boys head and face.

Draw The Front Of The Medium Long Hair
Begin the drawing of the actual hair by adding the part that goes down the middle of the face. It can start from about the top of the head and go down to around the tip of the nose . Draw this part as two combined clumps that curve in opposite directions forming a bit of an x shape near their bottom as they overlap. You can also draw some small splits into each clump to make the hair look a little more natural.
Drawing A Surprised Intellectual Male Anime Character
The intellectual may make a surprised face like the one in the example when they make some sort of a discovery.
