Somebody That I Used To Know Gotye

This song is a great beginner song its almost childlike melody is easy to wrap your head around, and the chords just repeat over and over again.

The chords for almost the entire song are just Dm and C.

No kidding its that easy.

The chorus alters that slightly, and goes: Dm, C, Bb, C, Dm.

This is a fun one to accompany a voice on, because you can play big octaves with your left hand, and simple chords with your right hand making a very effective accompaniment.

Seven Nation Army The White Stripes

As soon as I thought about Pumped Up Kicks, this song also came to mind.

Seven Nation Army is a fun song because it has a repeating bass line that thumps through the majority of the song, save for a few power chords that rock through the chorus.

The most fun way to learn this song would be to get the basics down by watching the video, and then playing along to The White Stripes recording.

The recording rocks, and its a lot more fun to play along to Jack White singing.

Shinzou wo Sasageyo! – Attack on Titan Season 2 OP – EASY Piano Tutorial [animelovemen]

When you first start learning any instrument, the drive comes from the music itself. Ultimately, you want to be able to play a song from start to finish.

Unfortunately, as with anything, progress is slow in the early days whilst you get to grips with the basics.

If you follow a curriculum, the piano songs you learn as a beginner tend to be things like Happy Birthday or Frére Jaques, which just arent going to cut the mustard.

As an adult learner, it can feel beneath you to learn a nursery rhyme like Three Blind Mice, but it is a step every starter pianist needs to get through.

Once you have the fundamentals and can hold simple songs to play with your left hand playing independently from your right, there are plenty of easy piano songs for beginners you can give a whirl before the boredom well and truly sets in.

This is especially true for those looking to master popular chord progression and play contemporary songs rather than classical songs, which tend to be more demanding of a player and require discipline and proficiency in playing the piano well.

So we have done our best to brief you on what your journey entails, provide some insight into easy piano songs to play, and list our recommended piano songs for beginners to try.

There is a lot of ground to cover, but we have arranged our suggestions into suitable categories and tried to select songs from a few different genres.

I Just Cant Wait To Be King

Another Disney tune worth looking into is I Just Cant Wait To Be King form the Lion King movies. While there are a lot of great arrangements of this one available, my favorite is from the Faber piano books.

This version is written in C major, but it holds true to the original tune. The rhythms are a bit simplified as this is an intermediate level book. Everything is reduced to either quarter notes for the most part.

There are some occasional E flats that do appear. In a few areas, there are also eighth notes and tied rhythms. While this version does not feature as much syncopation as the record, it still sounds great and its easy to play.

Bury A Friend Billie Eilish

[SLOW EASY Piano Tutorial] Kimetsu no Yaiba OP “Gurenge / ç´è®è?¯” – LiSA [animeloveman]

There are a few things that make this song an easy one to play.

First, the left hand rhythm remains more or less constant throughout.

Second, it’s a slow song. So, that’s always nice when you’re first getting started.

Third, you’ll mostly just be playing one note at a time in each hand, though there are some double stops for your right hand.

The melody in the right hand isn’t too bad either, but you will likely be spending more time on this than other parts.

Cant Stop The Feeling Justin Timberlake

Oh dang, I love this song. I used to play it with a wedding band, and it was always fun.

While the verses and chorus are exceptionally easy, the pre-chorus is funky.

The chorus and verses are just: C, Am, F, Am.

Over and over again.

The video shows you this, but doesnt show you the fun bass rhythm you could be doing with your left hand. Listen to the recording, and try to imitate what the bass does!

The pre-chorus does some weird chord movement, which looks strange, but is a fairly common move in R& B based pop music. It goes like this:

Bb, C, Bb, C, Eb, Bb, Eb.

It kind of takes it out of the key of C briefly. Cool!

Aint No Mountain High Enough

This is an old classic that caters to adult pianists needing some true soul. The rhythms are really simple, and the notes in the melody line are easy to remember too.

The chords move at a nice slow pace, although there are some dotted rhythms there. Those syncopated rhythms are easy to line up though. I find the left hand to be a little complex because it drives so much of the song with its pulsing. There are some specific jazz runs in there, and its full of seventh chords.

The video below is a good demonstration of what I mean about that. Certainly, you could find some arrangements that are simpler than this video. However, if youre trying to achieve an authentic sound, I would try to mimic this version.

Stay With Me Sam Smith

The best part about learning Stay with Me is that youll also learn I Wont Back Down by Tom Petty at the same time I kid. But the songs are remarkably similar!

The chords to the verse are: Amin, F, C.

The chords in the chorus are the same, but you can add a G on top of the Amin chord to create an Am7 chord. Just a little color!

Theres also whats called a passing chord. Theres a quick little E major chord that pushes you into the last part of the chorus.

The video does a good job of showing this.

When I Was Your Man Bruno Mars

Sheet music made by canfur for Piano

This one has a left-hand part that doesnt take your attention away from the whole song with the right-hand requirements.

There are a few places where the chord rhythms are a little more exciting, but you can find simplified versions or simplify the rhythm of the chord pattern yourself.

Try just sticking to each bars first beat if you are out of your depth to begin with.

What Makes A Piano Song Easy To Learn For Beginners

Repetitive parts

You want to pick a song where the melody is unchanging for the most part. Repetition means you only really have a verse and a chorus study, and although the song is 3-4 minutes, you only have to grasp a minutes worth of play to get through it.

Simple chord progressions

Look for a song with 3 or 4 chords. It is okay if they add in a 5th or 6th for a bridge later but keep things easy, to begin with.

Held chords/Vocal heavy pieces

Chords that get held the entire length of a bar are easier to play than chords with a rhythm to repeat. If you are a first-timer, holding a chord gives you time to read the next without pressure and think about the hand transition and finger placement properly.

Arpeggios

A song with arpeggios or broken chords is a really easy option, instead of grand melody lines and big musical sweeps. Rhythmically playing a broken chord is a good step up from a held chord.

Driving rhythms

If the rhythm is driving, it tends to be on the bars beat, which is pretty easy to keep stable throughout with your left hand whilst your right-hand bears the brunt of the more difficult part.

No jumping the octaves

Easy tunes to practice on the piano for a first-timer should have a fairly small range of notes, you dont want to be scaling along from lower to higher octaves straight off the bat, and neither do you want to be jumping as that requires looking between the keys and your music until you have developed muscle memory.

Is 61 Keys Enough Keyboard

For a composer to accomplish their objective, 61 keys isnt very low compared to the challenges they encounter while playing chords as well as melodies simultaneously. You may only have this restriction if you intend to play a virtual piano and you do not want to manually record additional parts that would otherwise take up valuable time.
