The intellectual may make a surprised face like the one in the example when they make some sort of a discovery.
To draw the surprised look for the intellectual character draw the eyebrows raised and draw the eyes wide open with small pupils. Draw the mouth open in an O type shape. Since the mouth is open you can also optionally draw the jaw slightly lower down.
How To Draw Anime And Manga Eyes
If theres something special in anime, its the eyes. You could argue that cartoon and western comic style also has and uses big eyes. However, the difference lies in that anime and manga eyes present the iris usually as an oval in shape, or the iris is enormous compared to the rest of the eye.

The eyes shape would break the human skull if it were real. Then again, manga and anime do not know reality in that sense.
So there are two types of eyes, one being continuous. Where the eyelids do connect. The other style being non-continuous, meaning that the eyelids are disconnected and thus break human eye anatomy completely. The continuous-style is trying to hold on the human anatomy, though only barely.
Size really matters with these styles and can be said that where continuous style is no longer looking aesthetically pleasing, it is time to make it non-continuous.

Its a good idea to separate areas of your drawing out into several layers. Create a layer for the background, a layer for the hair, a layer for the skin, and a layer for the eyes. This makes things easier if you make a mistake and need to undo something.
Choose whichever area youd like to start with first and with the brush tool and color of your choice, begin filling in the whitespace. Take your time so you dont go outside the lines . Repeat this step for each layer until your entire image is colored how you like.
Like I said, using picture editing software can get very, very complicated, so just take your time trying out new things and see what you can come up with.

While there is quite a bit of variation in the anime and manga style generally all anime characters tend to have large eyes, small noses amd simplified mouths with no lips.

Older male characters are more likely to have longer faces, wider chins, and smaller/narrower eyes . The alarmed look is one that the henchman type characters are especially likely to get when they are guarding something and notices a break in.
For an alarmed looking face draw the eyebrows low down on the head and closer together but with one slightly higher than the other. You can also draw some wrinkles between the eyebrow to show that they are squeezed together. Draw the eyes looking slightly to one side with one eye squinted and one opened wider.
Draw the mouth with even more of an upside down curve than normal.

Drawing An Angry Antagonist/villain Anime Male Character
This is an expression the villain tends to make when they are ticked off/angry/upset.
For an angry look draw the eyebrows closer together and very low down on the face . Give a hint of wrinkles between the eyebrows to further indicate they are being squeezed together. Draw the eyes squinted and draw the irises of the eyes smaller then normal with tiny pupils and no reflections.
Not drawing reflections will make the eyes appear more cold and uncaring.
Draw the mouth open and shaped similar to the number 8 thats been flipped on its side with the teeth showing. You can also make the mouth slightly wider on one side and give a hint of the split between the top and bottom rows of teeth with curved lines on each side.

Drawing A Loner Anime Male Character
The male loner character can either be shy or socially awkward or may just plain dislike people. These types of characters can be both positive and negative depending on the story.
For the loners normal look draw the eyebrows with their ends slightly raised. Draw the top eyelids slightly lowered and draw the bottom eyelids with wider curves. Make the irises fairly small. Underneath the eyes add a few curved lines to show bags under the eyes .
Draw the mouth in an upside down curve.
Thee combined features will give the loner a somewhat uncaring and unfriendly look.

Shade The Hair And Add The Chin
Hair is typically shiny, so, therefore, shaded with high contrast. The shading can be the difference of making hair look Manga-tastic or taking you back to square one. Draw lines that curve slightly inward down from the chin. These simple lines form your characters neck. Men usually have thicker necks than women, so bear that in mind. The age also determines the neck as in Manga, very old and very young males are drawn with skinny necks. You can shade the neck if you like but keep it simple and dont overdo it.
