How Long Would It Take To Watch All Of One Piece

Why Animation is so Expensive and Difficult (Toei Animation)

One Piece;would likely be up to its 991st episode, at the time of writing, by the time a viewer would reach anywhere near the point of being up-to-date with it. The episodes all ranging between 22 and 24 minutes long. Using the latter as the norm and multiplying it by 927, binging the series would therefore last a total of 23,784 minutes. This would equal 396.4 hours or 16.52 days.

That’s, of course, if they watched it without ever sleeping or taking a break. If viewers were to spend the eight hours a day that would usually be reserved for work;consuming the anime instead, it would take them 49.55 days to catch up with all of One Piece, provided they did;this process every day, including weekends.;That would be two months’ worth;of continued viewing — a pretty arduous task and one that will take viewers into the holiday season.

Removing two and a half minutes from each episode for the intro/outro, the 927 episodes last a total of;about 21,307;minutes. This is 355.1 hours or 14.8 days, putting it right over two weeks, though that still would require consecutive viewing without any breaks for other shows or activities. The still-continuing manga also means that many more episodes are still on the way, too, making the catch-up line even further away as the weeks pass.

While it’s still by no means an easy-to-digest chunk of programming, there’s never a bad time;to set sail;with; One Piece.

First Of Is The Concept Phase

In this Phase, the Animators will draw concepts to the characters.

They will do little test Animations and work out how the characters move. Then they will start to conceptualize the backgrounds, lighting, and style of Animation.

In this phase, they will also settle on an overall mood and color to match the story. This phase is the most creative and also the one phase where most Projects just straight out die.

Why Is Animation So Expensive To Make

Creating animations is expensive because there is a lot of work going into creating it. Even if it is a very Simple Animation it still needs a lot of work.

Anime already is one of the more cheaper variations of Animation, because it is comparably simple in style. Anime was invented because of the high Animation costs and was specially developed to cost less. If you want to know more about how Anime came to be, you can check out my article on the history and Origin of Anime here.

If you are worried about anime needing to be from japan then don´t be, there are actually non-japanese animes out there. So Animes can be made in American for example.

But let´s take a very rough and simplified look at how Animators work and how long it takes to only create 60 seconds of Animation.

Experience Anime Your Way

How long does it take to make an episode of an anime?

Not every fan likes anime for the same reasons, and theres no wrong way to enjoy anime. Shows with English audio give English audiences a different experience than watching the same show with Japanese audio. Neither is better or worse than the other, just different. Subtitles arent going anywhere in the anime industry. Some fans will always be sub fans, and thats just a matter of preference. However, to bring anime to a wider audience, we want to be able to create an experience for the fans who want to get lost in the artwork and story without reading subtitles.

Anime Production : How Anime Is Made

Have you ever wondered how anime is made? For most of us, anime production is all smoke and mirrors. The distance between the concept art and the finished masterpiece is the length of a typical 12-week season. Truth be told, unless youre fluent in Japanese, the production process governing Japanese animation is shrouded in mystery. Trying to learn more will lead you down a rabbit hole of terms like key animator, in-between animator, animation director, episode director, art director, and character designer. How anime is made in Japan is very different from how you would think; often times, it is much more of a fluid process than you would expect.

How Big Is The Anime Industry In Japan

I have been to Japan and even if you tried you wouldn´t be able to ignore the influence, that Anime has on Japan.

Everywhere you go, you can see Anime characters selling you products like models, Animes inviting you into a shop, Manga stores, Gaming stores that are overflown by Anime imagery and so much more. In the inner city of Tokyo Anime is literally everywhere.

The Anime Market in Japan is booming since the late 1990s and there is no sign that it is stopping anytime soon. More Animes are being produced than ever before and in Japan, it has become a new dream job to work in the Animation industry.

So how big is the Anime Industry in Japan? Pretty much exactly as big as the Film industry in the USA!

The Mainichi Shimbun’s Mantan-Web online news outlet reported on Sunday that, based on interviews it had conducted with a number of anime industry insiders, anime is currently taking “twice” as long to produce overall, and “three times” as long to dub.

An insider at a studio that shifted to remote work in late March said that the effect has been particularly felt among studios that mainly do analog work. “There are many studios that are still transitioning into digital. When it comes to telework, the checks are going to take a while no matter how you slice it, and there are lots of people who are used to face-to-face meetings, which makes the quality of the work fall. It’s very hard to maintain the quality with telework.”

Mantan-Web reported that there are those who say that the situation is “gradually returning to normal, but it will continue for a while yet.”

The anime industry has always struggled with manpower and personnel shortages, making it difficult for any except the most successful studios to survive. Some insiders have told Mantan-Web that COVID-19 is “making the situation worse. It may even cause an upheaval in the industry,” necessitating a shift to new approaches to production.

[Gunpla LAB]EP.2 How long does the” Psycho Zaku” take to build? (eng sub)

Here at Andy Art TV and on the Youtube channel, the topic of the cost of anime always comes up. Weve talked about how Netflix is investing into anime and how they are starting a program from foreigners to study animation in Japan so that Netflix can produce its own anime.

One of the popular articles on this blog was the one about the dark side of the anime industry. There has been a few articles on 2D Animation and picking a career as an animator. Also one of the top articles that broke the internet was how Demon Slayer outsold the entire American comic book industry. That one really devastated people.

Despite of all the successful articles on this blog, a topic that has always haunted many anime fans is, how much does it cost to make an anime episode. We know that American animators get paid more . We have a good idea as to how much it takes to make a cartoon show in America. However, why is it that anime is cheaper to make yet it is way more popular. You would think that anime would be more expensive for the simple fact that it has had global success.

So here are some as to how much it cost to make one anime episode. The Japanese really do things differently and their work life is still similar to that of the 1950s and 1960s, after the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

How Much It Cost To Make A Cartoon Show

So we are going to talk about the cost of series episodes versus animated movies like the ones Disney used to make.

The number I am going to give you here apply to all companies such as Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and other animation studios.

To create a cartoon show you need a script, character design , a storyboard, animation and finally the voice actors. So the budget applies to all these things necessary to make the show come to life. The average cost for a cartoon show like Steven Universe, American Dragon, Cat Dog, Cow and Chicken, Hey Arnold , The Fairy Odd Parents, its $300,000 to $600,000 per episode.

The smaller the budget, the smaller the team that works on it and of course, the bigger the budget the bigger the team. So lets say, for the production of Hey Arnold, if the show is given $400,000 per episode then that budget is spread through the production team. Now of course with a budget of $400K the team is going to be much smaller. So regularly you will have a lead animator and then you will have 3 other animators working on the show. The average salary for animators is $60,000. So with three people that is $180,000 pent. Now the voice actors are paid handsomely . Most voice actors make $80,000 to $100,000 per year. A voice actor easily makes $10,000 per episode of a cartoon. Lets also not forget the sound effect editor, the story board artist and the people who color everything.

Beginning To Animate Your Anime

  • 1Start by drawing your world in an animation program. You can find many free web animation programs online that allow you to easily create a world and character. Youve already decided what you want the world the look like, so now you just need to bring it to life. Take your time and dont worry if it changes from your original plan.
  • 2Draw your characters. Make your characters in the same animation program. Refer to the drawings and sketches that you have already done in order to inform your final product.
  • 3Draw your characters interacting with the world. Now, all you have to do is combine the characters and the world. This will immediately start to give you ideas for stories and potential plot lines to follow. Maybe your characters want to explore those massive cliffs out in the distance that they have never been to before. Maybe the sun is getting dimmer and dimmer each day and they have to figure out what is going on. The environment can be a huge impetus in any story, and anime is no different.
  • For example, maybe your world has giant slime pits all over the place. Maybe your main character’s little brother falls into one of these slime pits and the other characters have to figure out a way to save him. Now, you have the beginning of a plot!

So What Was The Most Expensive Anime Ever Made

To date, the most expensive anime ever made was by of course, Studio Ghibli, because Hayao Miyazaki is not cheap.

Studio Ghibli The Tale of Princess Kaguya cost $45 million to make but keep in mind that this is a movie not an anime series. Anime series have lower quality animation compare to Studio Ghibli films.

That being said with all the new innovations of technology, anime studios have been searching for ways to lower the cost of anime while increasing quality. Many anime studios will start investing into artificial intelligence which Hayao Miyazaki calls an insult to life itself.

If you have heard about what Netflix was doing to Studio MAPPA, paying them bottom rates, what many anime studios will start doing is using artificial intelligence. Especially Toei Animation. So not everyone will lose their jobs but this new technology will surely remove some load of Animation studios.

Is Kyoto Animation going to continue making anime and ...

According to the Guinness World Records the most expensive Anime ever created had a budget of 20 Million US Dollars. You can find the official entry on the Guinness world records page here.

The Name of the Anime is Steamboy by Katsuhiro Otomos. It was released in 2004 and was over 10 years in development.

However, according to Wikipedia the Anime-Movie The Tale of the Princess Kaguya made by Studio Ghibli had a Budget of 49.3 Million US Dollars. With is more than double the Budget of Steamboy. You can find the Wikipedia article here.

So these are the two most expensive Animes I could personally find. But as you can see, the prices for creating high-quality Animations are very high!

    The Chief Animation Director

Sometimes the director will appoint a senior animator to oversee the animation for an entire episode, or for the entire series. Like the animation director, the chief animation director is responsible for the quality and consistency of the animation. Often times, the director will assign the character designer to this role.

How Long Does Producing A Cour Take

I’ve read through some questions about financing anime and so on, but don’t know how long it takes to produce a complete cour of anime. I’m talking writing about 12 to 13 episodes, of a standard-length anime .

Is there an average time needed to produce a series? Are we talking about months?

    • 1Here’s one data point: Tamako Market began production in 2010. I’ll add a source if I can hunt it down again. Conventional wisdom is that modern-era Kyoto Animation has some of the longest production cycles in the industry, so I’d put most anime as having closer to ~1-1.5-years of pre-production. This isn’t well-sourced enough to be an answer, though, so hopefully someone can do that.

We are definitely talking about months here, if not year.

Lets first take a look at what has to be done to produce a anime to begin with. The image as found washibi’s blog will help with that.

Here we can see that there are 4 mayor factors to the production of a anime.

    • Pre-production
    • post-production
