How Many Seasons Of Danganronpa Anime Are There

There Is Still A Demand For Danganronpa’s Hypothetical Fourth Installment

Danganronpa: The Animation Episode 1 (Eng Dub)

Despite the possibility of this series growing hackneyed, Danganronpa fans are still yearning for more. Danganronpa;video game cosplayers can be spotted all over social media platforms, while popular Let’s Players — such as the Game Grumps — are picking up the series for the first time and creating a whole new layer of the Danganronpa fanbase. This trilogy is one of Spike Chunsoft’s most popular franchises, and it’d be understandable for them to want to develop future Killing Games, simply to keep the series fresh during its new wave of popularity.

The Ending Of Danganronpa V3 Felt Like A Mic

Kodaka wrote the ending of Danganonpa;v3 with the intention of it being the finale of the series. At the conclusion of;Danganronpa v3,;players learned the game they’d just played wasn’t actually the third installment of the Killing Games — rather, it was the 53rd installment. .

Not only that, but the game further blew players’ minds by breaking the fourth wall; the Hope’s Peak survivors beg the actual player to choose “Hope” and make the decision to destroy the academy once and for all so that the Killing Game cycle can finally come to an end. It would be difficult for Kodaka to build upon this “mic-drop” conclusion with a fourth installment.

Danganronpa Series Transfers Publishing Rights

The original title in the Danganronpa series is a kind of a murder mystery but unlike the fun, Saturday night murder mysteries we see in many TV Shows this murder mystery can actually turn into a massacre.

The game takes place in Hopes Peak Academy, a prestigious school that only accepts the Ultimate students. All of these students are brilliant, athletic, have a vast amount of knowledge, and really smart, basically every one of these students is a genius.

Our protagonist, Makoto Naegi, is picked as the Ultimate Lucky Student among the fifteen students. All gathered students are suddenly interrupted by a remote-controlled bear that calls himself, Monokuma.

Monokuma puts them all in his game where all of them are imprisoned for life and for them to leave one of the classmates has to murder another and not get caught.

If the other students identify the real culprit all of them live but the culprit dies and if they identify the wrong one all of them die but the culprit lives!

Where Can You Watch Danganronpa 2

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is the 2012 sequel to acclaimed visual novel Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. As in Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2s saw-like murder mystery features a group of high school students trapped by their sentient, stuffed bear of a headmaster, Monokuma. This time, the sentient stuffed rabbit Monomi joins him.;

Goodbye Despair borrows inspiration from Lost with its mysterious tropical island setting, while its gameplay draws from dating sims and first-person shooters . Youll have to investigate the murders of your fellow classmates and try those you think are responsible for their deaths.

Danganronpa has received several anime adaptations over the years. Many fans rightfully assume they can watch Dangaonronpa 2 after seeing the original anime season. So, how can you watch it?

The Opening And End Credits Pay Tribute To The Video Games

The separate Danganronpa anime are love letters to Spike Chunsofts games, but this adoration for the source material is especially clear in some of the animes opening and closing numbers. The first opening for Danganronpa: The Animation incorporates an instrumental mix of the video games main theme, but then adds to it. There’s a special “Monokuma Song” opening that’s used for one episode that references the video games Bullet Time Battle mechanic. Finally, the end credits for the final episode of Danganronpa: The Animation ostensibly remake the ending of Trigger Happy Havoc, which is a fitting conclusion for the anime.

A Special Ova Special Is Bundled With Danganronpa V3

There are two Danganronpa anime that cover diverse territory, but there’s also an extra piece to the story that’s available in a unique way. The limited edition PlayStation 4 release for Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony includes the animated special, SuperDanganronpa 2.5: Nagito Komaeda and the Destroyer of the World. It’s a moving story that’s set before the events of the Danganronpa 3 anime’s Hope Arc and looks at a boy who’s retreated into an artificial peaceful world as a coping mechanism. It’s not essential, but it adds more depth to the Danganronpa 3’s anime final episode.

The Danganronpa Plotline Could Grow Stale

Danganronpa: The Animation Episode 2 (Eng Dub)

Much like a television series with too many seasons, Danganronpa runs the potential of overstaying its welcome with too many installments. A video game like Danganronpa;relies heavily on the mysterious storyline to move the visual novel along. Though the writers and developers work to balance the right amount of suspense and intrigue for each game, players already know the main gist of the script: The students lose their memories, the world outside Hope’s Peak is a dystopian nightmare, and there’s a mastermind behind it all . Killing Harmony was still able to create a jaw-dropping twist to satisfy fans, but how many fourth wall-breaking twists can players stomach before the trick gets old?

The Second Anime Is Designed To Wrap Up The Video Games

There can be a very symbiotic relationship between video games;& anime and in the case of Danganronpa there was direct contact between Studio Lerche and Spike Chunsoft.

Curiously, the creators behind Danganronpa were interested in concluding their original Hope’s Peak Academy storyline, but they figured that the serious direction that they wanted to take the narrative wouldn’t be appropriate for a video game. They decided that an anime would give them the necessary freedom to take the characters and story where they wanted without the certain mandates and restrictions of a video game.

  • Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls: Game only.

How to Watch Danganronpa? Easy Watch Order Guide

Recently, creator Kazutaka Kodaka has reportedly been more open to creating another Danganronpa game, more than he has since the release of Danganronpa V3. With the ports to mobile platforms, its clear that the series’ cult following hasn’t died down in the decade since the original’s release.

Although there has been no hard evidence, fans on social media have pointed to job postings as evidence another game could come in the next few years. On April 9th, 2020, Spike Chunsoft announced to Famitsu that it would be releasing a lot of new information on “games, goods, tie-ins, monthly commemorative programs, etc.” While the mobile announcement came early last year, many of these promises didn’t come to light. It’s very likely players will continue to hear information on the legacy and future of Danganronpa moving;into 2021.

It should be stated that this is all speculation, of course. There is a portion of the fanbase who think that Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony placed a firm cap on the end of the original trilogy. That part of the base has been clear that another entry would only complicate how Kodaka had foreseen the series ending. That doesn’t mean fans; would turn their nose up at a spin-off, like a sequel to Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls. However, with the Danganronpa series publishing being handled by Spike Chunsoft, one has to wonder how that will affect development of a new game or anime.

A new Danganronpa game has not been officially announced.

    Give The Game More Popularity

While The first story arc has a huge following, V3 is less talked about. By making an anime series, interest in the visual novel would go up, and the game would earn more sales. This would be a great way to generate more revenue to put towards the fourth game in the series that is most likely already being developed.

This would also help to make merchandise of V3 more available.

Anime Series That Look Happy But Are Actually Depressing

Danganronpa is a special kind of beast. The special thing about this series if you just jump right into the anime is that, at a certain point, you realize that you need to play the games in order to properly understand what is going on.

That was the mistake I made. I watched the anime before playing through the games, and it all makes so much more sense after going and playing at least second game.

For this very special watch order article, the watch order is not only going to include the anime, but the games as well.

Its a fairly common practice that the Blu-Ray and DVD releases for anime series feature certain perks that werent present during the televised airings. This can mean uncensored violence, cleaned up animation, or other touches that there wasnt initially time to complete.

The release for Danganronpa: The Animation adds 14 more minutes to the animes final episode, which allows the nuance of the mystery to truly get appreciated. Spike Chunsoft were concerned that the whole story couldn’t be contained in 13 episodes and this extended directors cut of the finale speaks to the difficulty of that challenge.

    Give Life To The Dialogue

As with is the case with most visual novels, V3 is a game that relies on reading more than animation. By having a proper anime, the game can give life to many of the scenes that are only played out by dialogue. Seeing the trials happen in an animated fashion would interesting and help add to the tension of the game.

Best of all, this would give the characters much more depth.

It Sets Up For Unlimited Sequels

At the end of the game, it’s revealed that there have been a ton of televised killing games. While this would be a bit hard to use as a twist ending again, it does open up the potential for unlimited Danganronpa series. By making an anime of V3, it would open up the possibility of expanding the franchise further.

There could even be more anime-only series like Danganronpa 3.

The Danganronpa 3 Anime Has A Manga Spin

    Danganronpa Series Order

The Danganronpa series has branched out in many different areas and found unique ways to extend and continue its story. Most of these properties look to the Danganronpa games for inspiration, but there’s also a manga that’s directly a spin-off to the events of the Danganronpa 3 anime. Danganronpa Gaiden: Killer Killer is a side story that takes place concurrently with the anime. Curiously, the manga was first released as just Killer Killer and kept its Danganronpa connection a secret, only for it to be a huge reveal in the manga’s third chapter.

    Which Season Should You Watch

There have been three animated productions in the franchise which, alongside spin-off games and light novels, have helped fill in the world between the trilogy of mainline games. Two of these three productions are available for English audiences, but youll need a Funimation account first.

Studio Lerches Danganronpa: The Animation aired in 2013. Directed by Seiji Kishi, the 13 episode season is an adaptation of the first game, Trigger Happy Havoc. It might make a good starting point if youre curious about the saw-like, murder-high-school premise the series is known for. Danganronpa: The Animation is available to stream on Funimation.

Danganronpa 3: The End of Hopes Peak High School was produced again by studio Lerche, but directed by Daisei Fukuoka. Released in 2016, the original story is set in two arcs: Side: Future and Side: Despair. Future continues after the second game, while Despair precedes the events of the first game. Though each storyline aired simultaneously, Funimation now groups them separately.

Lerche and Kishi also made the OVA Super Danganronpa 2.5: Komaeda Nagito to Sekai no Hakaisha. It was only released with a special edition of Danganronpa V3 in Japan in 2017, and theres no word of an English release.

    Appearances In Other Games

Monokuma appears in some for Spike Chunsoft’s role-playing game, Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars. Costumes of Monokuma and Monomi also appear in the Japanese PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of Terraria, which are published by Spike Chunsoft in that region. Another Spike game developed for the PlayStation Portable, Gachitora: The Roughneck Teacher in High School, allows a player to wear a Monokuma costume if a Danganronpa save file is present upon playing Gachitora. Downloadable outfits based on Monokuma and Monomi also appeared in the Super Sonico game, Motto! SoniComi. Characters from Danganronpa appear as downloadable content in Fushigi no Chronicle: Furikaerimasen Katsu Madewa. The roguelikerhythm game Crypt of the Necrodancer features remixed music from the Danganronpa series, as well as character skins of Makoto Naegi, Monokuma, Monomi, Hajime Hinata, , Chiaki Nanami, Ibuki Mioda and Sayaka Maizono. Costumes of Makoto, Kyoko, Junko, Monokuma, Hajime, Chiaki, Nagito and Mikan, as well as a pet of Monomi appear as part of a crossover with the NetEase survival mobile game Identity V.
