To not make the hair look too neat you can draw the sides slightly messy as in the above example. If you do want a neater look you can draw them more like the hair in the medium length example.
Generally the fewer clumps you draw and the more they point in the same direction the neater the hair or part of the hair will look. Drawing more clumps pointing in different directions will generally create a messier look.

All my anime art tutorials are done in simple pencil sketch. Back then, when I started the anime eye, I never inked my sketch because I thought it wasnt necessary. Its just an eye.
Now, I decided to ink my work once and for all.
For one thing, it saves time, as smudging and shading could take some efforts to get it right. For another, an inked drawing can be clearly seen when taken with a cellphone camera.
And I have to admit that it looks better.
For our anime boy, we wont get a smudged pencil sketch, but an inked drawing.

Finish The Line Drawing
For this step first erase the hairline and the part of the head covered by the hair. Next draw in some curved lines in between the hair bumps/clumps of the back/top section and the teeth of the front section.
You can also add a tiny clump of hair that is hanging down around the upper middle of the hairline as shown in the example. Simply erase part of the hairline and add it in.
Once you finish the line drawing go over it with a darker stroke.

Why Learn To Draw Anime
A lot of us grew up watching shounen anime. You know, those wild and sometimes violent shows with crazy fight scenes, unique stories, crazy competitive sports and a kid in a funny outfit and spiky hair. Admit it, we love them. The West grew up with ’80s action-adventure cartoons, and the arrival of shounen anime offered a unique twist. The anime boys of the ’90s appealed to a broad audiencefrom kids to young adults. They vary from nice guys with earth-shaking furies to hotblooded competitors , from hyperactive ninja to space cowboys . Draw The Front Of The Over One Eye Hair
As can be expected the front section of this hairstyle will be very large and long. You can think of the entire thing as being split into two main sets of clumps with one being smaller and one much larger . You can draw the split in these starting from around the top of the head.
Draw the clumps on the covered side generally larger and going down slightly farther than those on the open side of the face.
Shapes And Colors Of Anime Eyes
It is helpful to divide the eye creation process into a few steps.
Lets go back and break it down once more and add the coloring process. Let me show you some coloring techniques parting from the grayscale drawing that we already have from the previous part:
Remember: On top of the basic grays with their respective gradients, add brightness and textures that match the style of your drawing .
Steps 1 and 2, start by making the eyelids, this will help you to figure out where to place the iris and the rest of the eye.

In step 4, I set the color layers blending mode. In this case, I used Overlay, but you are free to try a few out and choose another mode that you like better. This way, the color that you add will be perfectly integrated with the gray tones. On the right, you can see where the blending modes for layers are located in my software. The default mode is Normal. From here you can play around and find which mode you are comfortable with.
If youre aiming for colorful, engaging anime eyes, vibrant, saturated colors may be best.

How To Color Anime Eyes
Here you can see the results from using different colors and blending modes. I used the Overlay mode for purple, Vivid Light for yellow, and Pin Light for the blue tones and the pink details. They blend great with the grey layer.
The key is to know where you want to place the grey gradients, the darker areas, and the highlights. Please go back to chapter 4. Styles and greyscale when in doubt.
Try different colors and see which ones are best for the effect youre trying to achieve. In this illustration, I chose two complimentary colors: purple and yellow with pink and blue tints.
Grayscale coloring steps:
In 1, I simply started with the previously created grayscale drawing.
In steps 2 and 3, choose any color you fancy purple, with some blue in my case and try a blending mode that blends well with the greyscale.
In steps 4 and 5, I add some yellow using the Vivid light blending mode.
In step 6, I usually soften the dots a bit,; by using the eraser or decreasing the layer opacity.
Finally, in step 7, I just add the finishing touches to emphasize volumes and textures.
How To Make Eyes Look Unique
So here is a problem a lot of artists run in to after some time. I struggled with this as well, when I was starting out to draw. How can I make my characters all look unique? Or better yet, how can I make their eyes all look unique?
Well, the answer is probably way easier than you may think. Just change little but defining thinks of how you draw their eyes. For example, slightly tilt the eyes in a direction to make them look a little dimwitted or to make them look sharper. Make the eyes extremely round or insanely slim. Give them no reflections in their eyes to make them almost appear dead or evil. Or give them a lot of reflections to make them look innocent or happy.
Just play around with these little defining changes and you will be surprised how many different eyes you will be able to draw! Just take a look at these Sketches I did.

Dull Eyes Of Unhappiness
In anime and manga, though, when a character is feeling sad, very tired, depressed, or about to snap, their eyes lose all the natural shine and have the appearance of being lifeless. Depending on the art style, this can range from merely a lack of highlights to the iris turning into a flat disc of the afflicted’s base color.
Draw The Front Of The Medium Long Hair
Begin the drawing of the actual hair by adding the part that goes down the middle of the face. It can start from about the top of the head and go down to around the tip of the nose . Draw this part as two combined clumps that curve in opposite directions forming a bit of an x shape near their bottom as they overlap. You can also draw some small splits into each clump to make the hair look a little more natural.
