Draw Lips Chin And Shape Of The Head

How to Draw Anime Guy

Start to draw the lips following a downward curve rather than just drawing everything in a straight line. Next, follow the line and draw the chin.

As you can see at this point, the face is starting to form already. By the way, the bigger the chin you make, the more muscular the male face you are drawing.

Then we start to draw the actual head. I tend to draw the back of the skull first just to see where the end of the head may end. A cool little trick you can do is select the end of the head or back of the skull, move it around and feel how far it should be.

What looks good to your eyes. Remember that not every skull is identical, so it can be a bit further away or however, you want it to be . Also, dont worry if the skull isnt like totally round. It shouldnt be, so just draw what looks good to your eye.

How To Draw An Anime Body

This “skeleton”, though so simple, is actually half of the jobonce you have set the proportions the way you want, there’s not much you can do wrong! But a correctly drawn skeleton is just a skeleton, so let’s see how to fill it and create a body.

An anime body can be reduced to simple forms, like spheres and ellipsoids. They introduce another level of proportions, although they’re much looser and easier to keep right. It’s important to remember that although they look like circles and ellipses in your drawing, they’re actually 3D objects, and they are subject to perspective.

Let’s take a look at the body parts separately. The torso still looks very much like an hourglass. You just have to remember about the tilting of the chest and hips towards the waist in the back.

The limbs are a little more complex, but still easily understandable. Just imagine them as the limbs of a drawing dummy! Also, pay attention to the joints.

Draw The Face Outline

Find the center of the circle and draw a vertical line beginning at the top of the circle and ending below the circle by about half the circle’s length. This will be the guideline for your characters chin.

Note that older characters have longer chins and more slender faces, and younger characters have shorter chins and rounded faces. From the bottom of this line, draw two curved lines ending at the sides of the circle.

Some Manga artists draw the chin with sharp points like a square at the end of the chin and base of the jaw. But at first, stay as curvy as possible so you can get the style down.

Use References In Your Anime Drawings

Its tempting to skip that step. But if you cant draw something, you should look for a reference. This research process can take a long time, but you can learn so much from the work of others. Youll find inspiration for poses, character designs, and landscapes for your manga drawings.

It is more difficult to draw things from your memory. You can use this procedure if you have already built up a visual vocabulary and can combine the different elements.

Add Color To Your Manga Drawing

The easiest way to color an anime character is undoubtedly in an editing program on the computer. There you can work out all surfaces correctly and dont have to worry about mistakes. But you can also draw manga first with the ink pens and then scan the image and edit it digitally.

It is helpful to divide areas of your drawing into several layers. For example, create a layer for the background, a layer for the hair, a layer for the skin, a layer for the eyes, and so on. This will make things easier when you have made a mistake and need to undo something.

If you want to stay in analog media, you should choose high-quality colored pencils so that you can precisely fill in the subtle transitions and color areas.

Watercolors are used less often because the fluid transitions only match a few anime styles.

Paint Realistic Manga Portraits

Just because anime and manga have simplified color and bold linework doesnt mean you cant change the style. Plenty of anime styles use more realistic designs.

This tutorial shows you how to start a loose sketch and move into adding swathes of color, all the while blending and keeping color harmony.

When trying to paint realistic versions of anime characters its best to use a picture as a reference. Maybe even grab a sleek anime art book of your favorite series and use that concept art as a reference.

Just pick out a character and get painting!

Draw The Shape Of The Head

Start your drawing by first drawing the overall shape of the head. The top of the head will be close to a circle in the front view and close to an oval in the side view. Please note that older anime male characters tend to have fairly long faces as opposed to younger characters that tend to have fairly round faces.

For the bottom half of the front view of the face draw two lines going down from the top circle that then angle more towards one another and join to form the chin.

Younger anime characters often tend to have very sharp chins but in this case draw a wider chin to make the character look older.

For the side view draw the lower portion of the face without the smaller details of the nose and mouth. You can simply draw a single line from the tip of the nose to the chin.

For this initial drawing you can simply estimate the position of the nose .

While there is quite a bit of variation in the anime and manga style generally all anime characters tend to have large eyes, small noses amd simplified mouths with no lips.

Younger anime and manga male characters are often drawn with almost the exact same faces as females. Older male characters are more likely to have longer faces, wider chins, and smaller/narrower eyes . For this tutorial we will use a very generic male face that can be either a high school student or a younger adult.

The generic shape of this type of male anime face can basically be broken down into the three simple shapes in the example above.

We will shade the character according to normal lighting conditions . The main light source will be above and in front of the character. This means the main shadow will be below such as the shadow on the neck cast by head.

For the front view you can also add some small shadows to emphasize the chest and stomach muscles as well as some shadows on the inner side of the legs and below the knees.

For the side view most of the shadows will be along the back side of the character.
