How To Talk Like An Anime Girl

Sounding Like The Joker

How to Talk like an Anime Girl
  • 1Speak briefly and get right to the point. The Joker doesn’t ramble on. He speaks in short sentences and often says strange things. Try saying random weird things and then laughing hysterically afterward.
  • The best way to get the voice right is to practice it as you watch the movie!
  • 2Change the volume of your voice randomly. The Joker usually speaks in a low, husky voice. Sometimes he randomly shouts out things to catch people off guard. Try saying some stuff in a low whisper. Then yell out a few sentences randomly and with evil glee.
  • 3Practice the Joker’s unsettling laugh. The Joker’s laugh is a sort of husky cackle that sounds pretty deranged. Before you laugh, exhale first instead of inhaling like most people. That will help you sound huskier. Then laugh long and hard. Think about how witches cackle in movies. Aim for something like that, but crazier.
  • 4Be charismatic when you talk to people. The Joker is confident and speaks without fear. This gets the attention of others. He then uses his words, looks and mannerisms to keep all eyes on him. Listen to people when they talk and act interested in what they’re saying. Lean in to whisper a weird reply to them, then cackle before leaving the room.XResearch source
  • For example, look really interested while your friend tells you about the new movie he just saw. Lean in and whisper, “All it takes is one bad day.” Then suddenly yell, “Isn’t that right, moonlight?!” and then make your exit as you laugh hysterically.
  • Round Vs Flat Characters And Anime Stereotypes

Anime sometimes suffers from characters being stereotypes that hit the same note over and over again. These characters lack the psychological complexity that makes characters interesting and human-feeling. In literature, these are called flat characters. They are seen as “two-dimensional” because they’re not very life-like, much like how a sculpture of a person can look more real to us than a painted portrait. Like a sculpture, a “round” character is detailed to the audience from many different perspectives. The Joker from Batman is a round character, for example, because he is complex, changes over time, and can be interpreted in many ways. He’s like a sculpture in the round, that can be seen in different ways from different angles.

“Flat” characters certainly have their place. Unimportant supporting characters don’t need to be complicated to be effective, because their role in the narrative is more limited. A work of fiction can get kind of weighed down if it tries to make every character round. Les Misérables does this, for example, making the book excessively long. But, generally speaking, it’s good for at least the main protagonists and antagonists to be round characters with a lot of complexity to their identity.

What makes a particular instance of a trope bad?

And here are my eight least favorite of cliché anime character types.

Kizuna Ai And Four Apps That Let You Be The Virtual Girl

If you had told me Id live to see the day that Hatsune Miku could potentially be shoved off her virtual girl throne, I would have laughed at the unrealistic idea. Well, here we are in 2019, and Ive been sorely proved wrong. Virtual YouTuber extraordinaire Kizuna AI has just released original music, and is very realistically poised to snatch Hatsune Mikus crown. Kizuna AI Is an interesting evolution of the virtual girl, and a predictor of how the virtual girl will further evolve.

    Knowing When To Hold Back

Im talking to a anime girl
  • 1Understand that not everything is socially acceptable. Your character’s behavior might be considered the norm in his or her world, but may not be in this one. Even in conventions, there are some behaviors that are frowned upon. This includes things like hitting, groping, swearing excessively, and so forth. Use your common sense: if you think an action may get you in trouble, its best not to do it.
  • If your character is very mean, consider downplaying that aspect of their personality or doing it in a joking way to avoid offending others. No one will want to compliment your costume or great acting skills if youre too busy being cruel in character!
  • This doesn’t mean that you can’t act like your desired character at all. Mimic the good and downplay the bad.
  • 2Know when and when not to act like your character. While acting like an anime character may seem cool and fun, there are times when you need to take things more seriously. If you are around people who may not be familiar with the anime, or the fact that you are cosplaying, it is best to be yourself.
  • For example: fans of “Fullmetal Alchemist” might find it amusing if you rage about your lack of height like Edward Elric. Your doctor certainly will not.
  • Watch their body language for cues. If they seem uncomfortable or agitated, such as shuffling, looking around, or making excuses, leave them be.

    Acting Like A Generic Character

  • 1 Dont worry: anime and manga characters are not much different from real people. There are shy characters, funny characters, sarcastic characters, and, of course, dastardly villainous characters. Even if you aren’t imitating a specific character, having some sort of base personality in mind will help. Once you have a base to work off of, you can add the extras that make the character more anime or manga-like and really pop.
  • Don’t know what sort of personality to choose? Try picking one opposite to your own for a fun, added challenge. If you are shy, try acting like a bold or hyper character.
  • Consider basing your character’s personality off of an existing one. For example, you could be cold like Sephiroth from “Final Fantasy 7.”
  • 2Exaggerate your emotions. If youre even a novice anime or manga fan, youve probably noticed that many of the characters’ reactions are pretty extreme. Take your desired personality’s basic traits, and exaggerate them. If you want to be happy, act extra happy. If you want to be cold or serious, act extra cold or serious. Take this as a fun opportunity to act outrageous and different than you normally would.
  • One of the most notable is Edward Elric from “Fullmetal Alchemist”. He gets very upset whenever someone implies that he is short.
  • There are many emotionless archetypes as well. Instead of exaggerating your emotions, try concealing them and acting cool, calm, and collected.
  • A sarcastic character may cock his eyebrow.

A Little Primer On Our Current Virtual / Anime Girls

First a clarification on definition: virtual girls in this article refer to digitally rendered 2-D girls like Hatsune Miku and Kizuna AI. But I also consider other iconic anime girls who have become idols in the popular imagination virtual girls, too, like Lynn Minmay from ROBOTECH. Lil Miquela, a CGI influencer on Instagram, is also another iteration of the virtual girl. nime girl and virtual girl are used interchangeably here, since they mean the same thing in this context.

The most famous virtual girl, Hatsune Miku, gets reintroduced every few years in American media to some approximation of an impossibly thin, large eyed, blue haired virtual anime songstress, so you might have heard of her. Shes the anthropomorphic mascot of a voice synthesizing softwares voice bank, and is a wildly popular virtual idol. Kizuna AI, on the other hand, is a rather recent phenomenon. She represents the rising class of virtual reality YouTube stars. Her main channel, A.I Channel, has 2,506,128 subscribers, and her gaming channel has 1,326,602 subscribers. Along with having those impressive numbers, shes also a woman of taste. Her latest gaming video was a play through of SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE, which is an awesome game. In the age of YouTubers and influencers, Kizuna AI is the evolved version of the virtual idol.

A Disclaimer About Learning Japanese With Anime

Japanese is an honorific language with different ways of speaking. Think about it this way: You speak differently with your superiors at work than you do with close friends and family, right?

Japanese takes this to another level.

You have to change the way you speak to someone depending on your relationship, but it transcends the straightforward distinction between formal and casual. Your language will change between talking to a friend, family member, work colleague, manager or customer.

Meanwhile, anime characters live in their own universe where everyone tends to use slang, casual language, informal pronouns and even made-up words.

Too often, Japanese teachers encounter eager anime fans who were inspired to learn Japanese from their favorite programs. They sit on the edges of their seats, bursting with excitement to show off the words and phrases they learned while watching anime.

Imitating anime characters can leave you speaking like a child or a rude street punk, but you might never know the true meaning of your words and tone. This can be frustrating for both teachers and peers.

The bottom line here is that you need to be aware of the kind of Japanese youll absorb in anime-world. As long as you dont lose sight of your ultimate Japanese language goalto speak fluently and properly in any situationanime Japanese definitely has a place in your language learning progress.

Interesting Subversions And Good Versions Of This Type:

I really can’t think of that many. Usually, a loli-brat is annoying, it’s just a matter of degree, some being less annoying than others.

However, Banba from Princess Jellyfish either is or appears like she is a little girl, but she’s not in any way sexy instead, she’s an otaku who likes trains, and who has an eye for picking out the best meat in the grocery store. Her acting is subtle, and she doesn’t do what I see many other adult-like children in anime do, which is go out of her way to challenge and belittle adults or older teens. Maybe she is an adult – her age is ambiguous.

Were only going to see more intertwining of the digital and physical worlds, especially since the technology to be an anime girl is easily within everybodys reach. I jokingly call it the democratization of the anime girl because people other than corporate companies or teams can make anime girls now. Theres quite a handful of apps that offer anime girl avatars you can control with facial tracking recognition You, or literally anybody, can now make and be a virtual girl.

Meitu, one of the worlds biggest photo filter app, has added an anime girl feature. The app uses facial tracking technology to produce an avatar that moves as you do, and its actually pretty accurate. I reviewed Meitus anime girl feature and three other apps.

Why Do Anime Girls Often Have Such High

I’m thirteen years old and my voice is waaay lower than the vast majority of female anime characters. I don’t understand. How do grown women constantly sound like chipmunks?

Lots of Japanese people have high voices to begin with, they just over exaggerate them a little in some roles.

The fact that you’re 13 and have a lower voice doesn’t really mean anything though because everyone’s different. Age isn’t the only factor in someone’s voice

that’s odd, when i watch ‘real’ japanese people in street interview videos, none of them have high-pitched voices. they seem normal to me… they often talk under their breath, or use nasal sounds too… o

    Some people think it’s cute.

because they purposely pitch it that way, often to appeal to their audience. and then you have the other side of the spectrum, where a surprising number of male shounen characters are voiced by female voice actors

I imagine many of the VA’s are trying to sound ‘cutesy’, you might be too young but a lot of 20 something year old women even in the west do cringe worthy baby voices at times to try to do this. Also I don’t think it is them being high-pitched as much as it is they do loud high-pitched surprise noises and ‘baka!’ screams. Pitch wise even guys aren’t typically ‘deep’ imo so it isn’t so much as anime girls are ‘high pitched’ but all japanese VA’s tend to be higher pitched relative to what one would expect if you gave some of the characters western VA’s.

Ive been able to hit a voice like that and make people think Im actually female. lol It really depends on your tone and vocal range.Ooh, I see thank you for your feedback!! Would you mind sharing a voice sample from you doing it? Everyone’s “I’m able to do it” is pretty subjective, and that’s not a bad thing, but it would help me understand where in the spectrum of “passable” to “incredible” it is I’m personally a perfectionist so I’m very critical of myself also kind of others as well, like someone else’s perception of “incredible” is my “passable”. My vocal range is about 2.5 octaves without falsetto, 4 octaves with falsetto. Comfortable vocal range is 2 octaves without falsetto and 3.5 octaves with falsetto.

    The Overly Plucky Tragedy Girl

Talking Like An Anime Girl – Stream Highlights #2

This type of character can be male, like Hayate from Hayate the Combat Butler, but it’s usually a teenage girl. She has cancer. Her mother died. Her father was an abusive drunk. A gang of rival ninjas ritually sacrificed her dog to Cthulu, who also came and ate her legs. She’s been living in a ditch by the side of the road and only getting out once a week to scavenge for rotten apples and roadkill.

But she’s SO HAPPY! She has a face that just lights up with joy. She’s not letting the struggle get the better of her! She’s overflowing with milk and honey, no matter how mean everyone is or how tough she has it! She’s a survivor!

Yeah, that’s a little . . . unrealistic? People who go through intense traumas and grief in life shouldn’t be expected to just put on a fake smile all the time. I’d rather have an “angsty” character, because at least they are feeling something that makes sense relative to the bad things that happened to them. It just doesn’t make sense to have a character like that, it’s unrealistic. It’s also kind of a slap in the face to people who have experienced trauma, like we’re supposed to just “get over it” and not let it affect us. I know it’s a great ideal to be like that, but it is just that, an ideal. And its use in anime to sort of cutify the suffering girl character is pretty annoying.
