Drawing An Anime Full Beard

To draw a full beard first draw the overall shape of the hair as described in the previous example. After that you can somewhat project the hair downwards and eventually draw some branching out clumps on the ends. Draw the clumps pointing in different direction for a more natural look.

This type of facial hair could be a good fit for a character that has been out in the wilderness for a while away from civilization.

It’s typical of people to wear clothes, whether they’re real people or drawn on paper. However, it can be difficult to move past the basics of clothes that lie flat on the person’s body – and it’s made more difficult when drawing girls, as their bodies tend to have a curvature to them and makes the fabric rest differently. You can’t stick to drawing flat dresses forever, so it’s best to learn how to draw clothing on anime girls.

Drawing Anime Sweat Pants

Anime Art Reference/Tutorials on Instagram: Shading ...

To draw anime sweat pants again start by drawing the overall shape.

For sweat pants that are fairly baggy that hang down as in the example there will be very few folds. The only major folds in this example will be on the knee of the forward leg as the pants will hang off of it very slightly creating some tension.

Identifying Points Of Tension In Folds For Drawing

Sometimes, instead of looking for points of tension in the folds fabric or clothing for your drawing, it helps to take the reverse approach. Look at your reference and think to yourself, what has to happen for the fabric to be stretched or pushed in the way that it is? Asking this question will lead you to the points of tension you are looking for.

Another way to find points of tension is to follow the folds back to their root. Folds will usually fan out of a point of tension. These points usually occur on bend knees, inside bent elbows, at shoulders, at glutes, at the pelvis, at the chest , at armpits, and often are created by the costume itself, by a belt, or suspenders.

Some more words on points of tension in clothing. Do not forget about motion when drawing folds. If you are drawing a dynamic figure, remember to question the path of motion in the context of points of tension.

For example, with arms being raised up, when wearing a dress shirt, clear points of tension are created at the armpit and the elbow. Try it and look in the mirror, you should see folds radiate and fan out from those areas. This means that these points can change depending on the action, and the garment itself how loose or tight it is on the body.

Anime originated as both hand-drawn and computer animated characters in Japan around the 1960s, and now its cartoon and comic style is famous all over the world.;

Learning how to draw anime is simple, whether youre looking to sketch by hand or draw using a computer or tablet. Even better? There are plenty of styles to choose from to get started.

Start With A Simple Shirt

Anime clothes drawing will vary depending on how youd like your character to be dressed. For beginners, a simple shirt design is the easiest starting point.;

Around the neck of your character, draw sloping lines downwards and around the neck, leaving a small gap in the middle, to create an open-collar shirt.;

Start with the shirt collar before working on the sleeves or details.

Along the arms, add a light line in the middle where the elbow crease would be, with two slightly curved lines around the wrists for the ends of the sleeves. From here, you can draw a line straight down from the open collar to the waist, leaving an upside down V shape at the bottom. Draw two lines from either side of the hips in to meet the bottom of the V shape to form the ends of the shirt. A few dots up the centerline will give you the buttons.

Buttons and crease lines help to make your clothing appear more realistic.

Design Your Characters Outfit

[TUTORIAL] How to Color Shirts!

Now that youve drawn the characters face and body, you need to come up with ideas for their outfit. You should go for something easy to sketch since youre drawing a full-body character for the first time.

You can go for a shirt and a pair of shorts, or a shirt and a skirt, among other outfits. There are no restrictions, so you can even draw a uniform if you want to.

Since the clothes need to be thin and tight, we could opt for a short dress. The dress should follow the outline of the body.

To complete this outfit, youll only need to draw the lines that indicate the shape of the dress. Always use curves that hug the body and add some folds for a realistic look.

Experiment With Different Blending Techniques

Another useful tip to take on board is that you need to experiment with different blending techniques when you’re shading clothing. That’s because one technique might make look a jersey look realistic, but a different technique might work much better on shorts. Don’t just use one technique all the time for different pieces of clothing.

So, try creating longer blends and smoother transitions by coloring side to side. Another useful technique to consider when shading is to work in a circular motion once you’ve fused your nib in the Mixing Chamber.;;

In the example above, Kristy has blended in opposite directions, not just one. This has helped the piece of clothing look more professional with this realistic effect as the gradient and blending technique she’s used is giving it the illusion of dimension.

That’s why two-way blending can help make your shaded clothing look three-dimensional.

Adding Shadows To The Hair

To add shadows to the hair, make long strokes with your Pencil tool that follow the flow of Alices hair. As you can see in the example above, you dont have to worry about being too messy when doing this well be going back in with our Eraser tool to rub out any areas we dont need. And, because youre using this gray color, its very easy to see the lines you need to rub out afterwards.Of course, you dont have to use a gray color when learning how to draw anime and manga if you dont want to you may prefer to use a vivid green for example. Any color is fine, so long as it shows up well against your other layers well be altering this later to create realistic-looking shadows in your painting. Feel free to change your brush size for larger areas and keep zooming in and out of your composition to give you a good overall view of how everything is looking. Once youve cleaned up your shading areas in the hair, youre ready to move on and lay in some shadows for Alices clothing.

How Anime Hair Is Shaded

Generally anime and manga hair is shaded without gradients and has hard transition between its light and dark areas. This makes the shading process much faster but at the same time a little tricky as it can be difficult to figure out where the boundary between light and dark should be placed.

Where the actual shading is placed depends on the lighting conditions the artist wishes to show.

Anime characters are generally shaded in two ways:

  • Generalized shading where there character or object are well lit from most sides
  • Shading with strong one directional light source
  • This particular tutorial will focus on the more generic shading as its very common and can be used in most scenes. Please note however that even in the well lit lighting setup the strongest light will generally comes from somewhere above . This means that shadows will tend to form towards the bottom parts of the hair.

    Dont however confuse this with a one directional light source form above which would be more like shining a flashlight down on someone in a dark room.

    For examples of shading in one directional lighting see:

    Finally also keep in mind that anime/manga style shading does not need to be perfectly accurate or overly realistic. The goal is to have just enough basis in reality so that it looks believable.

    Final Touches On Colors And Finalizing The Image

    How To Color Anime Clothes in 2020

    When you color anime clothes, you should have this final look at your drawing. Are the colors working together in a harmonious way or not?

    One way to check if the colors are working is to create a white or black color layer on top of all layers.;This way, you can see if the values work or not. Is there enough contrast between the colors and are the clothes material identifiable even with just black and white.

    For example, metal and rubber have a very similar shading process, but rubber is usually wrapped around something, were as metal is on top of something or is a separate object. While its not always like this, I just tend to think that way.

    Sometimes I create an image from all the layers and place it at the top of the layers. Then I set the layer to soft light and set the opacity to 20% or something. This little trick brings vibrancy to the colors and adds that final touch to it.;

    However, with this image, I didnt do that, because the colors were vibrant enough, so there was no need to boost the colors any further.

    Essential Tips For Drawing Drapery And Folds

    Fabric and folds can take all sorts of forms depending on the softness of the material and the shape of the body. This illustrated tutorial by comic artist miyuli covers basic concepts and approaches for drawing fabrics of all kinds.

    Folds depend on the form they fall on. They are not universal. There are many different types and factors that influence them.

    There is no single rule on how to draw foldsThe best way to understand drapery is to do as many studies of folds as you can. The more realistic you want to draw and paint folds, the more references you will need. Understanding some common principles will make it possible to draw them convincingly in a more stylized way.

    Ive collected some pointers and commonalities here that Ive come across so far.

    The Common Shape Of Facial Hair

    Before you draw a beard or a mustache its good to have an understanding of the overall shape of facial hair.

    While facial hair can vary in shape for the purposes of this tutorial we will look at a more common example. As in the above illustration facial hair tends grown down from the sideburns with some hair on the cheeks. After that the hair goes down from the nose curving around the top lip. The hair then grows down form the bottom lip down towards the chin but there are some open areas on each side of the lips towards the bottom.

    If you want to draw a character that looks like they havent shaved in a few days but does not really have a beard or a mustache start by drawing out the shape of the hair as described above and lightly shade the area. You do not need a visible outline around the shape as the hair is too short to be so well defined but what you can do is draw a few very short individual hairs.

    Add The Eyes Nose And Mouth

    Draw two half ovals on either side of the face with small, curved lines inside for the ears. Moving inside the face circle, in line with the ears, youll start working on the biggest featurethe eyes! Anime eyes drawing can seem complicated but remember to break it down into shapes to make it easier.

    Start with two curved lines on each side with the gap between them being the width youd like the eyes to be. From here, draw in the curved lines of the eyeballs and a lighter curved line over the top for the eyebrows.

    Add the eyes first, as these are the most important facial feature on anime characters.

    Shade in a small circle at the top of the eyeballs to create the pupils, adding in a few short lines on the curved lines underneath for eyelashes.;

    Along the center guideline, add a small V shape or two short lines for the nose. Most anime mouth drawing is a simple line in the bottom third of the face, so add this in to complete the features.

    As you make progress on your drawing, dont forget to keep using your guidelines to help you.

    Drawing Standard Anime Eyelashes

    [ibisPaint X] How to Shade / Anime Style Coloring Tutorial

    These are the more common eyelashes with some variation of them seen in most anime and manga where just a few of the individual lashes are shown.

    Same as the previous example start by drawing the outline shape of the eyelashes without any of the individual lashes.

    Again fill the outline of the eyelashes with black.

    Eyelashes generally fan out around the eye so keep this in mind when drawing. Even though you dont need to show the full transition you should still keep the few eyelashes that are shown pointing in generally the right direction for that part of the eye.

    As the eyelashes are so small and simple you can shade and draw them at the same time. Add larger eyelashes to the outer top corners of the eyes and smaller ones to the inner corners and bottom eyelids.

    Again you can see what the eyes can look like with these types of eyelashes once fully drawn.

    Now You Can Add Some Final Details

    You have pretty much finished the clothes portion of your drawing, and in this step of our guide on how to draw anime clothes we will draw the person wearing them.

    We drew a simple head with some jagged lines for the hair over the face. Then, we drew some feet clad in sandals to finish it off. This is the way that we chose to finish off this drawing, but you can also put your own spin on it if you wish!

    You could change the details of the face, and perhaps make it look like your favorite anime character. Or you could take it even further and design your own unique character! Once you have finished the design of the character, you could also create a background for the drawing.

    Once again, you could use your favorite anime as inspiration and recreate your favorite anime scene. You could also create a unique setting to show where this character is standing.

    What details and extra elements will you use to finish off this image before the final step?

    Draw Some Details For The Chest Of The Anime Clothes

    You started the outline for your anime clothes drawing in the first step, and in this one we will add some details to the chest.

    There is going to be a large band around the waist, and this is what we shall start drawing now. You can start this by drawing a horizontal line near the chest of the outfit.

    Then, there will be a thin rope tied around it to secure it onto the body. You can also add some simple line detail onto the top for even more detailing.

    Drawing Folds In Clothing Step

    This first step the line-art drawing, the underdrawing of the fabric/clothing and folds you plan to draw is the most important in this process. Here we need to think about how the underlying form impacts the shape of the clothing and folds.

    We also need to sketch out placement of the main folds, so they are easy to return to later when you ready to render them.

    I added a simple local color to this drawing.

    Continuing to observe from step 1, I rendered out the shadows, trying my best to make sure they make sense for the form underneath the clothing.

    We will cover each individual type of fold in a bit in this tutorial! For now, I want to go over some examples to give you an idea of the process.

    Here, the highlights are added to make folds stand out. The focus is on planes that are hit by most light.
