Drawing A Complete Anime Character
It is not a small feat to draw a complete anime character but mastering all the different parts needed you are able to draw the character you are imagining.
Face and head as a whole, body, and clothing and you have a complete anime character in your hands. As with everything, learning these things take time and only when you have the patience to learn you can become the anime and manga artist you have always wanted to be.
Imagining your very own character might not be as hard you think. Only the execution part is what takes time and energy. Luckily drawing anime characters is very forgiving as you can even leave the nose completely off if you wish to do so.
Even the head can be pretty unique in shape, pointy ears and chin. Anime can be seen as a natural entry point to drawing characters, just because its so simplified in its raw form, but if you really want to push it, you can draw amazing and very realistic characters with this style.
Its up to you how far you want to take this style of yours. From simplified to extreme realism. Anime and manga style lets you do both even at the same time if skilled enough.
There are plenty of excellent tutorials to help you on your way and here are some of the best ones available for free. Some of showing speed paint like drawing and others explaining more of the process.

Ghibli Inspired Background Step : Details
In the last few process images, you see me adding details to the tree shape established in prior steps. I finally paid more attention to the brushstrokes I left on the canvas as they were likely to be my last layer of paint.
Finally, I was more satisfied with the level of detail and overall tree shape and it was time to put the brush away.
I found myself thinking about the environment and what it would be like to find myself in it. This was a good sign, since for me, one of the great characteristics of Ghibli backgrounds is the ability to envision exploring in them.
Once I was done with my Ghibli style painting, I took it to Photoshop and applied multiple adjustments to try to get an image that is a more exciting in its color without changing much of the subject matter.
You are welcome to download the high-resolution Photoshop file where you can see the various tools I applied to the image to have it look like the finished version you see here. I will also make available all of the steps in this tutorial in high resolution at the download link below.
I hope you enjoyed this guide on painting visuals similar to what we find in Studio Ghibli backgrounds. Drop me a line here and let me know if you want to see a part two to this tutorial exploring further into landscape painting.

Sometimes you may have to draw animals in your manga. While it is fine to roughly outline them and add some deformation when drawing them, you can expand the power of your expression by researching the skeletal structure of animals.

I added even more detail. Notice in this image that everything that is darker steps back and everything that is lighter steps forward in space. Areas that you will push back and bring forward must be identified early on.

How To Draw Anime And Manga Eyes
If theres something special in anime, its the eyes. You could argue that cartoon and western comic style also has and uses big eyes. However, the difference lies in that anime and manga eyes present the iris usually as an oval in shape, or the iris is enormous compared to the rest of the eye.
Anime eyes have a lot of personality in them and are the thing people search for first. First, its the head, then its the eyes. And especially the expression those eyes have.
One thing anime eyes do give you is a lot of creative freedom. You can draw eyes in various ways and still make them look believable.
So what defines, manga and anime eyes? They are large, shiny, the iris can be oval in shape. The eyes can be close to reality but either the eyelashes, eye-socket or other part is anime or manga like and thus creates this unreal looking eye but still so beautiful to watch. The eyes shape would break the human skull if it were real. Then again, manga and anime do not know reality in that sense.
So there are two types of eyes, one being continuous. Where the eyelids do connect. The other style being non-continuous, meaning that the eyelids are disconnected and thus break human eye anatomy completely. The continuous-style is trying to hold on the human anatomy, though only barely.
Size really matters with these styles and can be said that where continuous style is no longer looking aesthetically pleasing, it is time to make it non-continuous.

Draw A Background That Unifies The Whole Artwork
It is another technique that an artist must follow if he/she is drawing backgrounds.
You should draw such a background that unifies the whole image.
This tip for drawing the backgrounds is typically related to the colors.
It means that the colors of the background should be such that they can complement the colors of the main object.
For example, consider a drawing in which there is a bird sitting on the branch of a tree.
Now the question arises here is what will be the background?
Will it be a plain background or should an artist use light colors?
It totally depends on the colors that are used in the bird and the branch of a tree.
If the bird has yellow and black color and the flowers on a tree branch have pink colors, then you can use yellow and pink colors in the background.
But instead of making them too bright, try to make colors diffused so that the viewer can focus on the actual subject of the image and that is a bird.
What you have learned: An artist can use different colors in the background. But such colors should be used that can unify the whole piece of art.
