How To Draw Anime Hair

Draw The Middle Part Of The Hairstyle

EASIEST WAY TO DRAW ANIME HAIR (DIFFERENT STYLES)

You can indicate the area of hair at the crown of the head with a single line. To do this, orientate yourself again on the shape of the constructed head to reproduce the curve of the skull reasonably accurately. At the vertex, you can draw one or two intersections of the hairs to suggest specific hair flow.

Reinforce the hairline by drawing auxiliary lines at the level of the forehead to divide the hairstyle into separate strands.

Drawing Your Anime Hair To Completion

Of course, ultimately the last thing is to color the hair and call it done. I would say that the most important thing here is to think about the volume of the hair. Create shadows that support the volume of the hair. As the hair that I drew was rather chunky, the shadow also had to be quite thick. Do think about the volume of the hair when shading.

I surely hope you liked the step-by-step guide on how to draw hair. Hair definitely is not the easiest one to draw but hopefully, you found some new tips & tricks for yourself.

I usually speak from the perspective of cel shading. These tips, however, can be applied to any style in my opinion. Drawing hair is fun, even though sometimes challenging. Anime deserves some cool hair.

Drawing An Angry Looking Anime Villain Character

This angry expression is one that anime villain characters tend to make when they are ticked off .

For the angry looking villain draw the top eyelids lowered and the bottom eyelids raised . Draw the pupils and irises small with no shadows and small reflections same as the previous example.

Position the eyebrows lower down in wave like shapes.

Draw the mouth in a sort of bean shape with the bottom ends curving slightly downwards and the teeth showing.

Main Things To Remember When Drawing Your Anime Character

Pin by Amanda Hawkins on Manga Hairstyles

While I already showed you the final image and how I draw anime characters, these are the main things I want you to remember when drawing your anime character.

  • What kind of culture the character has?
  • What is the environment the character is living in?
  • What about the world and timeline? Ancient, futuristic, medieval?
  • What is the age of your character?
  • What about the personality or things he/she likes to do?
  • What is the overall feeling or emotion the character should evoke? Anger, cuteness, joy, sadness?
  • Clothes tell a lot about the character, as does pose and hair.
  • Facial expression can support the characters personality but doesnt have to the determining factor

The above few bullet-points are the ones that I would think when drawing anime characters. Ive drawn quite a few and have to say its one of the best things to draw.

Designing and drawing anime characters is a blast, and if you want to draw your own anime character. A good place to start is by getting inspired and gathering those reference images.

Pick An Iris Colour Based On Your Composition

Finally, I return to detailing the iris. Ill take a look at the overall picture and colours that Ive used and then decide what colour the iris of the character should be. Because the painting features predominantly red colours, I decide to go with a green colour for the eyes. I also save my white value for the very end, applying a little highlight to the eyes.

How To Draw Anime Boy Hair

The first few steps are similar to the ones we followed when drawing anime hair for girls.

  • Repeat steps one to three. Although for the bangs, you could choose to draw three.
  • Sketch the rest of the hair. Were going to draw short spiky hair, so you should sketch a few thick distinct spikes that extend away from the head. Start drawing them from one end of the hairline arch to the other.
  • Give the hair more depth by adding some detail inside the outline. Add some lines to break up the hair sections.
  • Remove the guidelines carefully.
  • Finish the drawing by coloring or shading the hair.

You dont have to be an anime fan to learn how to draw anime. But if you are, youll find this tutorial thrilling since it will be your first step towards being able to create some fan art one day.

    Creating The Hair Structure

Pick a shape and reduce the opacity of that particular layer to something like 20-30%. Create a new layer on top of the shape layer and quickly sketch a slightly more defined structure of the hair. In this phase, your goal is to define the hair a bit more. Adding strands and smaller blocks of hair.

Really create that variation in the hair. Do not define too many details at this point. You have plenty of time and opportunities to do those later down the road. The goal was to define it further but not too much. Keep it loose. This way you also relax your mind and dont focus on unnecessary details.

Keeping your mind open to new opportunities is always important.

You never know what your mind throws at you so you should keep the sketch loose. Give it the space it needs.

If you go in with the details, it becomes more and more irritating to add new elements to the drawing. This could be my personal problem here. I dont like to do things twice. Kind of like, you have drawn something and spent time on it. Then something cool comes to your mind.

Something you just have to add to the drawing. At this point, it is a pain to erase and delete those nice details and lines you created earlier. You know.

Its never too nice to delete something you have put an effort to. So keeps this in mind when sketching and also knowing when to get to the details phase.

    How to Draw Anime Hair

  • Draw the shape as shown.

Sketch a line as shown in the image below. This is the oval of our characters face.

  • Add two ascending lines.

This will be the start of our chic hairstyle.

  • Depict the outlines of the haircut.

Repeat the shape as in the picture below. Of course, there are no strict rules.

  • Draw in the details.
  • Tidy Your Outlines And Ink Your Drawing

Create a very clean inking layer of your new outlines, the clothes, and the showing skin. Fine line details, such as major folds in the clothing, major facial details, and patterns. Anything in the foreground of the image should have a slightly thicker outline than those in the background. Similarly, use line width to draw the eye to the most important parts of the image. While you want to keep this final outline clean, make sure not to exclude any of the important details.

Tip Break The Flow Of The Hair

One key point I would like to give you is that you should break shapes. If the shape is big and bulky, break it apart. Break the shape into multiple smaller shapes. Another way is to create strands of hair to intersect the big shapes thus breaking the big shapes.

Big shapes create dull drawings. Break them. Cross them. Divide them. Dull shapes make dull drawings. And, yes. I have made plenty of dull drawings and even still create those. We are not perfect.

    Draw The Main Hair Shapes

How to Draw Anime Girl Hair [Slow Narrated Tutorial] [No Timelapse]

When I have the mood and feeling in mind. I start to design the character. Giving this chilled yet happy look on her face I move on to the hair. There are a few ways you can approach drawing the hair. Either you just start to draw the hair detailing it out. Or you create these major shapes.

These shapes give you the overall feeling right at the start. With these big blocks, you can easily see how the hair works or not. You can also easily try different sizes and flows to the characters hair.

The benefit of doing it this way is the so-called undo effect or regret phase. You are not yet too far with the hair only to realize it doesnt work. I hate the feeling of drawing something quite long and then realize that it just doesnt work. I mean, you have spent so much time and energy on it and then it doesnt work. I hate it.

So even though I sometimes draw hair quite detailed in the beginning do check the major shapes at some point.

Those give you a direction and overall look of the whole hair. Its easier to design a hair when you just draw big chunks of it. Rather than drawing individual hair strands. Its also faster to draw big blocks. Getting that feel right with ease.

    Draw Highlights Many Times

Once it’s roughly painted, it’s time to add some highlights.

Draw highlights with a clear brush like a “Fountain Pen“.

At this time, please be aware of the flow of hair when you draw.

If you have a reference photo, paste it on a layer to reduce its transparency.

And if you draw according to the highlights of the photo, you can draw more natural lines.

I can’t draw the lines neatly!

If so, please try using a “Predictive Stroke” with the menu bar above.

There is a problem that this function tends to become a straight line as the level is raised.

However, you don’t have to draw bumpy lines.

Once you’ve finished drawing the highlights, use a “Flow Airbrush” to blur the whole thing.

You can express soft colors by blurring with the airbrush.

If you want to blur finely, a “Smudge Pen” is recommended.

Use the Smudge Pen to blend the color boundaries.

Once that’s done, redraw the brighter colored highlights with a fountain pen.

In my case, I have repeated this process three times.

By layering similar highlight colors, you can make the hair more realistic.

How To Draw Short Anime Hair Male

This hairstyle can be seen on Kei Tsukishima , Gaara , and a lot of other amazing anime characters.

    Step 1:

Start by creating a guideline for the front hairline. Draw a curve to connect the hairline to approximately one-fourth of the way down the ear line.

If you would like to add a side part, mark the area with a straight line.

    Step 2:

Create hair clumps all through the hairline. Keep them short and dont make them too uniform. Vary the size and direction as you go along.

When dealing with the side part, start a little above the hairline guide. Create two hair clumps that curve away from each other.

    Step 3:

Just like the hairline, create clumps of hair along with the guidelines at the top of the head but this time-space them out farther from each other.

    Step 4:

Join the hair clumps seamlessly together by following the guidelines and using curved lines.

    Step 5:

Finish the drawing and erase the guidelines. You can stop here if youd like, or you can add a few more extra details. Add a few hair clumps around the hair randomly. Make sure youre still following the curves of the hair strands around the hairline.

From the end of the line you just created, draw a long curve down to the neck.

    Step 4:

Draw hair clumps to connect the ends of the hairline together.

    Step 5:

Finish up the top of the hair by following the guideline.
