Shading & Finishing The Drawing
For some basic anime style shading you can add shadows in the commonly shaded areas. In most common lighting conditions the light is coming from above so the shadows will be cast downwards. In this case the shadows will be on the neck from the head and on the arms and legs from the sleeves of the shirt and the shorts.
On the face there will be some shadows as follows:
- From the hair
- The top part of the eyes
- To one side of the nose

Tip: Although you can leave the face completely round, many chibi characters have distinctive jawlines. You could draw a square or pointed jaw, for instance.

Facial Features On A Chibi
Eyes
As you might have noticed in the previous images, big eyes are an important part of a chibi, it is a crucial feature for a cute chibi drawing.
In normal drawings, eyes are roughly placed around the center of the head. However, on chibis, eyes are placed lower which results in cuteness.
Nose
Nose on a chibi is usually just a tiny dot on the face so nothing complicated about that.
Mouth
Mouths are usually also very small on a chibi too, however, if the mouth is open, you can draw them larger or smaller depending on your preferences.
Chin
Chibis have no chins, at least not sharp ones. They are usually very rounded for cuteness, however, some does have a slightly sharper turn at the chin, but compared to how usual anime characters are drawn, the chin is a lot more rounded.
Points To Draw Line Art
If you select a color other than black for the draft, it will be easier to distinguish when you draw line art.
Reduce the transparency of the draft layer to 50% or less.
Then the draft layer will not interfere with the line art layer.
Chibi characters are illustrations that require more character-likeness.
Therefore, if you draw the outline of the face and the lines on the outside of the body thicker, the character will be emphasized.

Using Cute Facial Features In Drawings
In this section, well explain what to keep in mind when drawing cute faces.
Outline of the face
Usually, cute faces are depicted as young faces, and young faces are usually drawn with round shapes. You could also call it a puffy face.
Make sure to draw the cheeks with round lines to naturally depict innocence and cuteness.
The shape and size of the eyes
The eyes are what gives that first impression, so lets learn how to draw them!
There are many ways to draw eyes, but the round shape is also important here, so lets use them to draw the eyes too. You can also change the look of your character simply by stretching the eyes vertically! This will give a different kind of cuteness to your character.
Eye width
Usually, the width between the eyes should be about the same as the width of one eye. However, by making this distance a little longer, you can give a stronger sense of youth to your character. Be careful not to overdo it though. About 1.3 times the width of the eyes should be just fine.
Nose size
This may sound obvious, but drawing the nose as a dot or not drawing it at all is the best way to show cuteness! You can also make it cuter by placing the nose a little higher than usual.
Shape of the mouth
The mouth is also an important part of the characters overall impression. It tends to show how the character is feeling.

Exaggerating the shape of the mouth is also a good way to show youth.
Points To Draw The Contents Of The Face
The key to contouring faces is not to sharpen the chins too much.
And if you draw the neck, draw it finely and shortly.
Real eyes don’t fit the head and body of a chibi character.
Therefore, the trick is to deform the eyes and reduce the amount of drawing as much as possible.
If you make the drawing of the eyes a little simpler, the character will be more impressive.
The lower the eyes, the younger the nose and mouth will look.
You may or may not draw the nose, but try to draw it smaller if you do.
The point is to draw the mouth round.
When you draw a closed mouth, it may be cute to draw a small triangle.

If you discuss several image ideas at a time, usually, the image that ends up being chosen, is the one that is most commonly liked, which should be the goal of a cover anyway! A cover needs to be appealing to many and entice the shopper to buy the manga.
So if you are unsure about a motif, it can be helpful to ask other people for their opinion. However, dont get too upset if they find your personal favorite silly.

Of course, you wont have enough space to replicate every part of the chibi body, but you can at least try to include all parts that are important.

Chibi mouths can either be a simple line or a stylized and carefully executed part of your chibi.
Before youve started thinking about it, look at the character whose chibi youll be drawing: Are there any oversized canine teeth? How does the tongue look? All of these elements will be critical when conveying your chibis emotions.

For a very embarrassed or shocked chibi anime expression draw the eyes as two circles with a thick outline . Draw the eyebrows as two straight lines going downwards towards the middle of the face and lightly touching the eyes. Draw the mouth completely covering the chin all the way to the bottom of the face. The mouth should have a somewhat rectangular shape with curved corners.
