Dr Stone Season 3 Release

Dr. Stone Chapter 157 Release Date, Spoilers and Recap ...

Dr. Stone Season 1 and 2 were released with a gap of two years. With the announcement of Season 3 already in place, when could Dr. Stone Season 3 possibly be arriving? Well, we have some theories.

Season 1 contained 24 episodes while Season 2 had 11. Season 3 is rumored to be a split cour release that may have up to 25 episodes. TMS Entertainment suggests that the two-part release may have 10-13 episode cours, which is usually the pattern for such releases, like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2, Tokyo Revengers Season 1, and Attack on Titan Final Season.

Even in the case of a split cour release, the possibility of a 2021 slate is not likely. The manga for Dr. Stone will also be reaching its conclusion in the next couple of years. At this point, 2022-2023 seems like the possible period for the manga to end. That said, the anime is far from it. The Source of the Petrification Saga will be covered in Season 3 which will have the Age of Exploration and Treasure Island Arcs.

The earliest slate for Dr. Stone Season 3 seems to be Spring 2022 at the moment. If that window is missed, then the next possible slate would be Summer 2022.

Dr Stone Manga Compared To The Anime

Like most adaptations of a manga series, the Dr. STONE anime does make some changes. TMS Entertainment condensed the storyline by trimming the dialogue but has otherwise remained faithful to the source material.

The most notable skipped scene is in manga Chapter 1 when former U.S. President Donald Trump is shown during a montage of various people turning to stone. Unfortunately, TMS Entertainment wimped out and did not include the scene, which is too bad since they would have needed to cast an actual Trump with voiced lines.

In regards to pacing, the animes first season averaged exactly 2.5 chapters per episode. The Stone Wars anime adaptation picked up the story again in Volume 7: Chapter 61.

The animes second season slowed down the pacing, which allowed the confrontation to be given the proper breathing room to build tension. Most of the episodes adapted only two chapters, whereas Dr. STONE Season 2 Episode 10 adapted a little over three chapters.

One missed opportunity is that the anime skipped the side story from the Dr. STONE reboot: Byakuya manga. The side story would have fit right in the second seasons beginning since Episode 24s ending focused on Byakuya. The side story was also nine chapters long, which is perfect for providing two episodes, which would have brought the second seasons total to 13 episodes.

All in all, the second seasons finale, Dr. STONE Season 2 Episode 11, found a stopping point in Volume 10: Chapter 83.
