Rukia Was The Original Protagonist
In Tite Kubos original concept for Bleach, the series was called Snipe and Rukia the first character Kubo designed was the main character. Dressed in Shinigami robes and armed with a scythe, Rukia would be pitted against gun-toting enemies in this early draft.
As Kubo developed his new idea, the character of Ichigo became the lead protagonist and the presence of guns was replaced by the more traditional sword-based weaponry that;Bleach;has since become;known for.
Rukia is one of the most popular characters in the Bleach series and it wouldve been very interesting to see how the story progressed with her as the lead character. With that said, its also difficult to imagine Bleach without the presence of Ichigo Kurosaki, as;both he and Rukia make an effective duo, especially near the outset of the story.

Bleach Season 1: Plot Details
In the 16th season of the anime, viewers saw that Ichigo Kurosaki had lost all his powers. Not only that, but he also struggled to regain them. Rukia Kuchiki was assisting Ichigo in getting his powers back. He barely managed to face off against Kugo Ginjo with the help of the members of the Soul Society.
Meanwhile, the hard-fought union is crushed when Hollows disappears mysteriously. No one had any clue about who is actually behind it. Ultimately, a new group of soldiers known as the Wandenreich launched an attack. The Wandenreich, which translates as the Invisible Empire, is a confidential group of the Quincy. A thousand years back, the Quincy met a defeat in the war against the Shinigami. As a result, they escaped and built a hiding place. For all these years, they have been using their time to gradually gather their power.
Now, in Bleach Season 17, the fans will see Ichigo disappearing somewhere and the chaos breaking out. The Wanderichs secret group will finally launch t heir attack on the Soul Society resulting in an all-out war between the Shinigami and the Quincy. Ichigo will undergo intense training in order to become stronger so that he can fight back and save the Soul Society.;
For The Better: Ichigo And Rukia
A big point of contention with Bleach fans, particularly fans of the anime, is the fact that Rukia and Ichigo dont end up together in the end. Instead, Ichigo marries Orihime, and Rukia ends up with Renji. This is partially because the relationships between the characters are represented a little differently in the anime than in the manga, with Ichigo and Rukia spending more time together and having more of a connection. This seems like a good way to go, since the tropes of these kinds of series would probably have these two characters more naturally ending up together than Ichigo and Orihime.

For The Worse: Not Finishing The Story
The anime got canceled before it could reach the end of the story that the manga was telling, which means that it has a pretty abrupt ending that doesnt really resolve anything and leaves it all pretty up-in-the-air. While there have since been plans for it to come back and finish up, for a long time, the only ending anime fans had was pretty unsatisfying while the manga actually got to wrap up its final storylines.
How To Act In A Bleach Intoxication
In general, to counteract the action of bleach, use only cold water. In cases of accidental ingestion vomit should not be induced; use large quantities of cold water, milk, ice-creams or antacids to neutralise it and call a doctor to get medical assistance. If the bleach comes into contact with skin or eyes it must be cleaned or washed with abundant water for at least 15 minutes. Some combinations of bleach with whitening agents or certain household cleaning products in powders form and ammonia can release the chlorine which can cause asphyxiation.

Dragon Ball Author Akira Toriyama Championed The Series
The Bleach manga didnt get off to the most auspicious of starts. After Shonen cancelled his previous series, Tite Kubo quickly pitched the concept for Bleach but the publishing company rejected his initial concept. Luckily, this early idea wasnt completely done away with.
The story goes that Kubos initial Bleach draft found its way into the hands of legendary Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama. Impressed with what he read, Toriyama wrote to Kubo personally to express his admiration for the series and to encourage the;upcoming young author.
Whatever Toriyama said certainly worked, as Bleach was accepted for publication at Shonen Jump shortly after. Whether the suits at the company got wind of Toriyamas letter and decided to trust his wisdom or whether the legendary authors encouragement simply spurred Kubo to not give up on his new creation, well likely never know.
For The Better: Less Violent
Its hard to get away with as much violence on television as it is in a comic book, and that definitely shows in the Bleach series. The anime has less blood and guts than the manga, which can often see characters getting limbs cut off or spurting blood everywhere. For the squeamish or weak of heart, the anime series might be a better bet than the uber-violent manga.

Kubo Incorporated His Love Of Fashion Into Bleach
Outside of writing manga, one of Tite Kubos foremost passions is fashion design and the author used his knowledge in this area to create memorable and striking clothing designs for his characters– Ichigo in particular.
Kubo has drawn several of his characters in fashion model-esque style for splash pages, bonus art, etc. and got to live his fashion designer dream for real earlier this year when he teamed up with a real-life clothing brand to design Bleach inspired T-shirts.
With the Bleach manga series now finished, Kubo will obviously have a lot more time on his hands, and with no other long-term projects announced, maybe its finally time for the mangaka to take inspiration from Kayne West and live out his fashion fantasies for real.
For The Worse: Less Time With The Supporting Cast
As with any anime adaptation, there isnt as much room to spend time with all of the characters as there is in the manga. This ultimately means that a lot of the side characters get short;stick and dont really get their moment in the spotlight.
This is definitely true of Bleach, which has a huge supporting cast anyway. All of the characters have their own character arcs in the series, but the anime doesnt really have the time or episode space to devote to each of them getting to actually have those moments.

Bleach Manga Compared To The Bleach 2021 Anime
The anime is based on the Bleach manga series by artist and writer Tite Kubo. Published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2001 through 2016, the Bleach manga ended Volume 74 with Bleach Chapter 686.
The official English translation of the Bleach manga was released by North American publisher VIZ Media. The English Bleach Volume 74 came out back in October 2018.
The anime followed the mangas story up until Episode 64 when multiple anime original story arcs were introduced in order to give Kubo more time to create new manga chapters. These filler episodes continued until Episode 110, but then the anime continued to rely on filler multiple times over the years.
Episodes 128 through 137 and Episodes 168 through 189 and Episodes 230 through 265 and Episode 311 through 342 were all filler. Needless to say, this amount of filler content is unusual for an anime series so reading the Bleach manga is like a different experience.
The Bleach Season 16 anime finished by adapting the Lost Substitute Shinigami arc, which was covered by manga chapters 424 through 479.
Bleach Season 17 anime will pick up with the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War arc , which includes chapters 480 through 686. Presumably, the anime will not overly rely on filler episodes this time around.
The good news is that English-only manga readers can read ahead right now. The bad news is that Bleachs new season run will likely be the ending of the anime series unless a Bleach manga sequel is announced.
Will The Bleach Anime Ever Make A Comeback
Poor Ichigo Kurosaki. What was once arguably the most popular anime franchise around, Bleach has seen better days. With both the anime and manga ending, fans are left wondering if they’ll ever see a return to the Soul Society on television. Though the franchise is far from completely dead, having been given a live action movie that aired on Netflix and spawning a number of spin off comics and novelizations, it seems as though there are no current plans to bring Bleach back into the world of anime. Are the prospects for a revival doomed or is it possible we could see the Shinigami return in the future?
In our opinion, long story short, we’ll eventually see a Bleach anime come back to television. The franchise has just made too big of a mark to ignore and there are still steady releases through different mediums that enter into the world of these grim reapers to ignore. Ichigo and company continue to make appearances in video games focusing on the franchise, as well as through merchandising and spin off stories and we figure it’s only a matter of time where the creator of the franchise, Tite Kubo, decides to revisit the world.
Do you think Bleach will ever come back as an anime series? Would you like to see it return as a direct sequel or as a spin off? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly on Twitter @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and Bleach!

Almost Half Of The Anime Is Filler
Every anime series has filler episodes, whether it be Dragon Ball Zs famous driving test escapade or Narutos various mini-arcs. Bleach, however, took filler material to an entirely different level and some fans have calculated that as much as 45% of the entire series is comprised of non-canon material.
To make matters worse, rather than spreading filler episodes out like many anime series do, Bleach opts for entire non-canon arcs that can span multiple seasons. One example included the Bount and Zanpakut material.
Featuring original material that doesnt appear in the original manga wouldnt actually be a problem in itself if only the episodes maintained the same level of quality as the rest of the series, but generally speaking, this isnt the case. The drop-off in quality between the Soul Society and Bount arcs in particular is very noticeable.
For The Better: The Bount Arc
The Bount Arc was the first filler arc in the Bleach anime. While filler arcs in general are pretty contentious with anime viewers, since they detract from the main story and are just meant to be time-killers while the manga gets further along, and while the Bount Arc in general has divided fans, the actual story is pretty good for being anime-only. For a world with as much insane world-building as Bleach has, its good for viewers to spend some time learning about how everything works in a way that isnt immediately connected to the main plot.

For The Better: Fight Scenes
While the fight scenes havent changed that much from the manga, they have the major advantage of being animated, and thats enough of a change to really get people excited to watch the series. The show is so exciting because of the interesting ways that characters battle, and getting to actually watch the Shinigami and Hollows battle in awesome, animated fashion definitely gives the series a one-up on the manga.

Arrancar: The Arrival Arc
This 22 episode arc returns mostly to the plot of the manga, covering chapters 183 through 229. It was aired in Japan from January 2007 to October 2007. US air date from April 2009 to August 2009 since two episodes from this arc are showing every night presumably to help close the gap between the US and Japanese broadcasts.
This arc starts off with Shinji Hirako introduced as a transfer student in Ichigo’s school, but his true motive is to recruit Ichigo into the Visored, a group of Shinigami who have gained Hollow powers. Meanwhile, Kon is attacked by Grand Fisher and Ury is attacked by another imperfect Arrancar. Ury is saved by his father, Ryken Ishida, while Kon is saved by Isshin Kurosaki, who has regained his Shinigami powers. Soon after that, two Arrancar, Yammy and Ulquiorra Cifer, appear at Karakura Town. Yammy begins draining all of the surrounding souls. Only Tatsuki Arisawa survives. When Chad and Orihime interfere, Yammy injures them gravely, but Ichigo arrives in time to protect them. Upon confronting the Arrancar, his inner Hollow demands that Ichigo switches with him, sinisterly stating that he would be able to finish them off with ease. Ichigo however, denies his request, causing his inner Hollow to interfere. His inner Hollow prevents him from being able to fight and he is severely beaten until Kisuke Urahara and Yoruichi Shihin arrive to rescue them.
