Currently, there has been no official confirmation regarding the anime series fate.

When Netflix released the long-awaited anime series Record of Ragnarok, it was safe to say that anime fans had tons of mixed feelings about the show. On one hand, fans were excited that the adaptation was happening in the first place, but on the other hand, fans also would have preferred if the adaptation did the manga series justice.

The manga series, Shuumatsu no Valkyrie, has been hailed for its insanely good premise, its amazing dynamic original characters, and for its absolutely epic fight scenes between powerful gods and humans. Because of this, fans were very excited about the release, hoping that the animation would leave them as hyped up as the manga series did, however, Record of Ragnarok was met with tons of criticisms about the shows rushed storytelling and disappointing fight sequences which may have spelled disaster for the fate of this anime.

What Is Record Of Ragnarok

Debuting back in 2017 in Monthly Comic Zenon, Record of Ragnarok, known in Japan as Shumatsu no Valkyrie, is written by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui and drawn by Ajichika. The story involves a council of Greco-Roman, Norse and other gods coming together and deciding the fate of humanity every 1000 years. They come to the mutual conclusion that humanity deserves to finally be removed from the Earth, but the intervention of a Valkyrie convinces them to decide otherwise and give the human race one more chance.

This manifests in a tournament in which humankind’s most notable figures from throughout history duke it out with the gods throughout that same history. This sees Buddha, Lu Bu, Jack the Ripper, Nikola Tesla and the Biblical Adam facing off against Bishamonten, Odin, Zeus, Ares and even Beelzebub. It’s a fight for survival as the mortal combatants wield incredible weapons against their divine opponents, with each weapon being tied to the life of their guardian Valkyrie.

Where To Read Record Of Ragnarok

As mentioned, the series’ chapters are published in Coamix’s Monthly Comic Zenon, and have been since November 2017. So far, these have been collected into 11 volumes. It was recently announced that Viz Media is handling the English localization and license, and that the manga will begin releasing digitally in the Fall before hitting print next year.

In Japan, there’s also a spinoff series titled Shumatsu no Valkyrie: Ryo Fu Ho Sen Hishoden. This series began in October 2019, two years after the original, and has so far been collected into 4 volumes. Hopefully, the success of the show will create a path for this series to have an English release, as well.

Every one thousand years, Gods from different worlds gather and have a discussion over the fate of humanity. This is decided by a voting system and this vote decides that either the human race will continue to live or will be eradicated by gods. In the recent meeting, all gods have agreed on finishing the human race.

At the very last second, A Valkyrie interrupted and made the proposition that the human race should be given a chance and their fate must be decided on the basis of one-on-one fights between Gods and Humans. Gods agree to this as their pride was on the stack.

So a tournament starts where 13 Gods will face 13 Human warriors and the team reaching 7 victories first will decide the fate of the human race.
