Can I Create An Animation And Call It An Anime

How Anime is Made – Inside the Studio (Toei, Madhouse, Pierrot)

Nothing stops you from creating your own Anime and there are no rules or laws, that forbid it to call an Animation Anime. So feel free to call your Animation whatever you want, it is your Animation after all.

And I don´t think, that as long as it has the style of an Anime and as long as it is enjoyable, that anyone would mind, that you called an Animation Anime, that wasn´t made in Japan.

And even if some people mind, you can just ignore them. There are always people like that.

We are living in a world, where you can communicate so easily via the internet and where you can work with people around the world without them even being with you in the same country.

That alone opens you to so many possibilities, that you could very well be able to create an Anime, that is being produced in Japan even though you are from America or any other country.

Making an Anime is expensive though. If you want to know, I wrote an article about the costs of making an anime.

If you want to learn how to draw anime, I also made a Guide on drawing anime eyes.

If you liked this article or if you have any questions, let me know and will answer them as soon as I can.

The God Of Highschool

The God Of Highschool is adapted from Korean webtoons. And made into. an anime series.

Crunchyroll in particular are the ones who got their hands on it, and helped bring it to fruition. Theyre on the production committee.

Park Yong-Je, the author of the material majored in cartoon animation in South Korea. And thats what lead him to eventually creating the webtoon.

The studio MAPPA, an official JAPANESE anime studio are the ones who worked on the adaptation as well.

So in this case, its dumb to say The God Of Highschool isnt an anime . Especially if you go by the strict rules of anime

RWBY was made in America, making this drastically different to The God Of Highschool.

Its an American style anime thats taken inspiration from Fairy Tail s characters. And is known worldwide .

In this case we can say RWBY is not an anime . It wasnt built on Japanese soil. The Japanese dont agree 100% though.

This is pointed out by Lindsay Jones:

Funnily enough, we showed our Japanese cohorts RWBY and they started arguing about whether it was anime or not! But seeing the reception from audiences is so surreal, and we never expected it. Wikipedia

Why Is Anime So Popular Now

1. Anime Is Different

How did anime get so popular? The very first reason is its difference. Unlike any Western or American cartoons like Family guys or Marvel Avengers, anime builds up an incredible world that has psychological depth and the visuals to match. It is unique by the breadth of material, the ways stories are told and even the cultural nuances exhibited by the characters.

Americans had never seen anything like this before things that far from real life. It was pushing boundaries in a way US comics at the time were not. That was what professor Susan Napier said about Japanese cartoons in an interview. Giant robots, giggling magic users, and post-apocalyptic chaos are what people dont see much coming from Hollywood. Above all, anime reminds us of ourselves and gives people an escape from reality.

2. It Links With The Video Game Industry

We have witnessed an increase in the popularity of anime-inspired games since the beginning of the 20th century. While the overseas interest in anime is thanks to the success of movies like Studio Ghiblis Spirited Away and shows such as Sailor Moon, video games have also played a huge role in that growth.

Japan is also known for its major gaming scene and combined with anime, they are an unstoppable force

Top 10 Cringiest Cringe Anime Ever Made

Anime was unlike anything most Americans had seen at the time. It had a unique art style, it was violent, it was insane because people were flying around shooting laser beams and blowing up mountains, and it was a power fantasy. Anime opened up a world that Americans never experienced in any film or book. It inspires people to be more childish and says its okay to be, even as an adult. In America anime makes us feel like were learning something about another culture, despite it being only a small pocket of knowledge about a foreign country.

4. How Popular Is Anime In The World?

Its been watched globally since the 2000s. Not only the US, other Western countries like France and Germany are also big fans of anime. Commercially, it contributed $17.7 billion of revenue to the Japanese film industry in 2016, in which Asia market accounts for 40%, North America 12%, and Europe contributes the rest of the 26%.

Whats most striking is how animes impact is coming full circle. Some recent American cartoon productions, like Avatar: The last airbender are openly inspired by anime itself, and live-action English-language versions of anime titles are starting to come into production more frequently. Every year there are a couple of shows that pull in a large audience from the non-anime community because of all the hype, celebrities talking about it, and the memes.

How Is Anime Made

Yet somehow every season were inundated with dozens of shows. How do they do it? Lets have a look at the broad overall process of getting an anime in front of your eyeballs. Toei Animation And Mushi Production

    How Anime Is Made

Toei Animation and Mushi Production was founded and produced the first color anime feature film in 1958, Hakujaden .It was released in the US in 1961 as well as Panda and the Magic Serpent. After the success of the project, Toei released a new feature-length animation annually.:101

Toei’s style was characterized by an emphasis on each animator bringing his own ideas to the production. The most extreme example of this is Isao Takahata‘s film Horus: Prince of the Sun . Horus is often seen as the first major break from the normal anime style and the beginning of a later movement of “auteuristic” or “progressive anime” which would eventually involve directors such as Hayao Miyazaki and Mamoru Oshii.

Osamu Tezuka established Mushi Production in 1961, after Tezuka’s contract with Toei Animation expired. The studio pioneered TV animation in Japan, and was responsible for such successful TV series as Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, Gok no Daibken and Princess Knight.

Mushi Production also produced the first anime to be broadcast in the United States , although Osamu Tezuka would complain about the restrictions on US television, and the alterations necessary for broadcast.

Dialogue Measurements Are Entered On An Exposure Sheet

    • 3 A technician known as a track reader measures each vowel and consonant in the dialogue. Words are recorded on exposure sheets , each of which represents a single film frame. This allows the animators to synchronize each movement of the character’s lips with the dialogue. Footage, the time needed between lines of dialogue for the action to take place, is also charted on the exposure sheet. Slugs, or sections of film without sound, are inserted where the action occurs.

How Are Anime Soundtracks Made For A Story

So say there is a manga. Now who comes up with the soundtrack and composes that according to the anime?

Many many soundtracks are masterpieces, and just as equally or even more amazingly they are composed with story to have even more effect. I want to know more about the whole process.

I know how they draw manga from a story, and animate .

But when it comes to soundtrack I am completely clueless. Obviously a studio or an artist is paid to create soundtracks but what’s their process?

    So I want to know:

  • How do they decide what it should sound like?
  • How do they actually create it and is there a process?
  • How do the people who create this get training for it?
  • In the soundtracks that I have heard, they don’t seem limited by instruments. Melodies are perfect, or composed perfectly. They often have human voices mixed with them, like this, this or this.

An anime’s soundtrack is usually made specific for the show. The same cannot always be said about the anime’s opening or ending themes, though.

Finally, to answer your question about how they decide the feel of the sound, I’m led to believe that it’s hashed out at meetings during an anime’s creation , with the composer talking with the anime’s production staff. Words could be thrown around that depict a certain feeling, or a certain genre of music or something to go for. If the production staff knows more about music, more specific terms may end up being used.

Whats The Difference Between Dubbed And Subbed Anime

How Anime Is Made: Layout and Key-framing

Anime comes in two formats: Dubbed and subbed. Subbed plays the original Japanese vocal track for the show or movie youre watching with English subtitles. Dubbed, on the other hand, features an English-speaking cast of voice-over actors working from a translated script. There are advantages to both formats.

Subtitled anime, when done right, gives you the most accurate version of the original version, down to the vocal inflection of the Japanese-speaking actors. Dubbed titles offer more of a mixed bag, especially with other series and films. American dubs in the 80s and 90s were often laughably wrong, due to cheap production budgets. Most modern titles have fixed this issue, but youre more likely to see voiceovers that dont sync with the characters mouths in dubbed versions.
