The Shaft Angle Or Shafuto Kakudo
The Shaft Angle is a technique in which the animator makes the character tilt their head at a certain angle. This, of course, was pioneered by Studio Shaft, hence the name. You can find it employed in a ton of anime, especially by Studio Shaft titles like Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

Sketch The Basic Action Lines
Identifying your figures action lines is the first step in learning how to draw action poses.
In any pose, theres at least one central action line, and potentially several. Imagine a person standing up straight, facing you. The action line for this figure will just be a straight vertical line. But, if someone is bending, twisting, or gesturing, those action lines will be similarly curved and rotated.
Identifying those central lines is an important first step, as these lines will form the framework upon which youll build your figure. Action lines are not every line and curve of your figure rather, theyre the lines that determine the movement of the pose.
In the illustration above, the main action lines follow the curve of the models back and extended leg, and the diagonal stretch of her upper arms.
Construct 3d Shapes For The Body Parts
Think of the human body as made up of various 3D shapes.
Drawings of the human body can be broken down into a collection of 3D shapes: a rectangle for the torso, cylinders for the arms and legs, spheres for the shoulder and knee sockets, and so on. These foundational 3D shapes are the building blocks of your figure, whatever its pose, so sketch these in roughly.

Anime Action Scenes : How To Draw Manga Action Poses Step By Step Lesson
Lets give some of your Anime characters life by placing them in action posea. A still drawing can portray a certain expression through an action. This is a powerful tool for Anime / Manga comics, especially for action stories where fighting scenes are much used. There is no limit for action poses. With this, you can do almost anything with your characters.
An action is nothing more than just a pose. But action is mostly associated with something more energetic and dramatic. Something that has an extreme movement such as fighting, running, leaping etcAlmost all types of characters can posed into action.
Draw the outline figure to give volume to the body. Dont add details for now.
Add up the clothing.
Add the details to the face and add the props.
Clean up the sketch.

Importance Of Proper Poses
Even if you are a reasonable good artist an improperly drawn stance can greatly detract from your drawing and the message your are trying to convey to the viewer.
For example in the two punch drawings above the first one looks like a person holding their arm out while the second looks like they are actually punching.
Its very important to properly convey the action or stance you want to show. Without that an even otherwise well done drawing wont look right.
Draw The Bottoms Of The Folds
Using the line from the initial drawing as a guide draw the saw like teeth along the bottom of the skirt as in the example above.
Keep in mind that the folds of the skirt are shaped like a swirl so they will point more towards the viewer on one side and then slowly turn away from them as they progress towards the other side.

Drawing Specifics Of This Tutorial
For the more generic/common styles of anime and manga the bodies tend to be drawn similar to those of real people. This is how the examples in this tutorial will be drawn as well. The only real difference is a slightly larger and rounder head .
This means drawing as follows:
- Head similar in shape to an egg
- Hands drawn with fingers combined into one shape
- Feet drawn as one combined shape
Though its quite common to start the drawing of a person from the head the examples in this tutorial will start with the torso. In more dynamic poses getting its bend and/or twist first can make it much easier to place the rest of the body parts.
Another important thing you should do is draw light lines that you can easily erase . This will make corrections easier in case you make a mistake and it will also let you more easily erase parts of the mannequin if you want to add all of the details mentioned earlier over top of it. The lines in the examples have been made dark just so that they are easier to see.

Backgrounds can be simple or crazy complicated, but all of them require some knowledge of perspective.

Tidy Your Outlines And Ink Your Drawing
Create a very clean inking layer of your new outlines, the clothes, and the showing skin. Fine line details, such as major folds in the clothing, major facial details, and patterns. Anything in the foreground of the image should have a slightly thicker outline than those in the background. Similarly, use line width to draw the eye to the most important parts of the image. While you want to keep this final outline clean, make sure not to exclude any of the important details.
