What Is The Longest Anime Series

Not Worth It: A Certain Magical Index

Longest Anime Series – Top 50 Comparison

If;A Certain Magical Index;ended after its second season, it would just about earn itself a recommendation. Unfortunately, the third season does such an awful job of adapting one of the light novel’s most crucial storylines that it retroactively diminishes the value of the entire series. After two seasons of build-up for a;potential war between magic and science, season 3 rushes through the conflict at such a frantic pace that familiarity with the novels is required to properly follow along.

A Certain Magical Index‘s anime is only worth watching to provide some context to;A Certain Scientific Railgun, which is a far better series.

What Is The Longest Anime Title

So I was browsing around, finding a new anime to watch. And came along, Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru OVA and found it to be a very long name.

Is this the longest anime name or is there an anime with a longer name out there?

Okay, so I have been able to find a definitive answer!

Naruto Narutimate Hero 3: Finally a Clash! Jonin VS Genin!! Indescriminate Grand Melee Tournament Meeting!!

is the longest titled anime with a large 107 characters or 87 characters without non-alphanumeric characters

Second Place goes to:

Digimon Adventure 02: Zenpen Digimon Hurricane Jouriku!! – Kouhen Chouzetsu Shinka!! Ougon no Digimental

With 104 characters, 85 alphanumeric

And Third,

Dragon Ball Z Special: Tatta Hitori no Saishuu Kessen – Freezer ni Idonda Z Senshi Son Gokuu no Chichi

102 characters, 82 without.

I discovered this by writing a small Python script to iterate through a dump of AniDB’s database of anime titles and check each one, which you can find on their site

If anyone is interested, you can find the script here:

I took all anime titles from MyAnimeList, parsed and sorted them by length:

This is from Anime News Network :

This list is from Anime Planet titles:

Some pretty good contenders are:

Not Worth It: Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball;needs no introduction. The original anime and;Dragon Ball Z;are rightfully hailed as classics, but the subsequent series are far more divisive. Somehow,;Dragon Ball Super;is even more of a mixed bag than;Dragon Ball GT, as the former fluctuates in quality so frequently that it is simultaneously awesome and awful.

While the anime does improve as it goes along, even the best arcs are not without their significant flaws. The Universal Survival Saga starts;strong but lacks enough substance to justify its;54 episode run, and the “Future” Trunks Saga fails to stick the landing. When;Dragon Ball Super;is bad, it is also laughably bad.

Kirin Monoshiri Yakata: 1560 Episodes

7 Best Longest Running Anime Series Of All Time

Kirin Monoshiri Yakata was an anime that aired on MBS TV and TBS TV from January 1975 to December 31st, 1979, for a total of 1,560 episodes.

The series is about a cat and a mouse who teach children about history while trying to get along. The two animals constantly quarrel, usually the mouse outwitting the cat.

Today, only two episodes of Kirin no Monoshiri Yakata have been found, both very poorly translated and only in Japanese. Since its last episode, the show has never been aired again or gotten any English dub during its run.

Legend Of The Galactic Heroes

Theres a reason people call Legend of the Galactic Heroes the Game of Thrones of anime. Its got an overwhelmingly large cast, all exceptionally and professionally voiced, with intriguing plot developments and historical repercussions all hung together with a narrative reminiscent of War and Peace.

This is all set in space, thousands of years into the future, and follows two sides of a gargantuan war lasting hundreds of years between the Galactic Empire and Free Planets Alliance.

Its 110-episodes long and never disappoints with its realistic approach to storytelling.

Cowboy Bebop

These are the very best original anime series with less than 50 episodes, in order of release date:

1. Cowboy Bebop

3. Psycho-Pass

4. Yuri!!! On Ice

I made a separate category for the anime titles listed above because these are all anime originals and are short anime series spanning 22 episodes or more. Also, there are a lot of stand-alone episodes in Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. Unlike most of the anime listed earlier in this Hub, these series are already completed and were given a proper ending . It is important to note that Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are both Shinichiro Watanabe creations.

I recently added Yuri!!! On Ice on this list, the only sports anime in the category. I was actually hesitant at first because Yuri On Ice appears to be fundamentally different compared to the other titles listed here, but I didn’t want to go through the trouble of adding a new original anime category with only one entry. Compared to other titles, Yuri On Ice’s strength relies more on character growth, relationships, and emphasis on details.

How did such a goofy masterpiece make it on this list of the longest running anime in Japan? The same way that The Simpsons and South Park have overseas – with tons and tons of laughter! Don’t underestimate the power of a good dirty joke.

Mobile Suit Gundam Uc

Think high investment, high reward if you get lost amid Mobile Suit Gundam UCs jargon and sprawling backstory. The space-opera franchise is 40 years old and running, so this one isnt easy for newcomers, but it pays off. The setup echoes previous entries: Teenage boy pilots a robot and encounters friends, enemies, and Jedi-like extrasensory powers in armed conflicts between Earth and its space colonies. Politics and power plays drive the show, but UC balances them with intimate scenes like this one, fluidly animated space battles, and even LSD-trip dream sequences. And the ultimate reveal of the shows MacGuffin, Laplaces Box, beats anything else youll catch on American TV.Watch it if you love:2001: A Space Odyssey; the appendices of The Lord of the Rings

Anime With The Longest Titles Ever Ranked

10 Longest Anime series still being aired today

We’ve seen anime titles get longer and longer over the years. These are the shows with the most long-winded names imaginable.

The title of a novel, series or film is often used to grab the attention of its target audience,;being one of the first ways the writer can communicate with potential buyers as to what is to be expected inside the box. Think of titles like;Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods;or;Pokemon: The First Movie, and you can probably guess from those words alone what is going to happen throughout the film.

On the other hand, there are anime titles that are so balls to the wall crazy that your first reaction upon reading it is “Huh?” Even crazier are titles that are far longer than we are otherwise accustomed to, taking nearly as long to read as the show is to watch. For the most part, these overly long titles come from light novels and their anime adaptations, where the authors probably have a bet on who can make their title the longest. Fair warning, these anime are all incredibly weird.
