Drawing Long Anime Hair

[HOW TO DRAW} How Anime Girls Eat Food

Long straight hair is probably one of the most common hairstyles in anime and is fairly easy to draw.

Above you can see the breakdown of the long hair drawing example into:

  • Red Front Hair
  • Green Side Hair
  • Blue Back/Top Hair

You can apply a similar breakdown to drawing other hairstyles as well. Thinking of the hair this way can make the drawing process a lot easier to manage.

Keeping this in mind we can move on to the actual drawing process.

How To Draw Anime Face Step By Step

Step 1: Draw a big circle, divide it into 4 equal sections. Draw another horizontal line below the horizontal diameter and also draw a line outside the circle as shown in the image below.

Step 2: Start outlining jaws and neck from the last 2 lines drawn in step 1.

Step 3: Raise up the jawline drawing full face and ears on both side.

Step 4: Draw 2 eyes below the diameter line marked or in the same line with ears. Mark a small line for the nose as in the image below.

Step 5: On the line of the big circle draw mark 3 for the mouth. Above the eyes draw eyebrows.

Step 6: Erase all the extra lines are drawn and your face outline is clearly visible to you.

Step 7: This is the final step of drawing, draw hair bangs for the anime. Here this anime girl has short hair, you can finish it with long hair too.

Drawing An Embarrassed Anime Tsundere Character

As already mentioned a tsundere character tends to get embarrased when showing their true feelings so this can be a fairly common expression for them.

For an embarrassed tsundere face draw the eyes squinting and looking downwards. Draw a horizontally wide mouth with the bottom ends wider than the top. Also keep in mind that when the mouth is open you should draw the jaw slightly lower down.

Draw the eyebrows lower down.

How To Draw An Anime Chibi Girl

Click HERE to save the tutorial to Pinterest!

The term “chibi” is derived from a Japanese verb meaning “to become shorter.” It is a style of caricature that features its subject in an exaggerated way. Chibi “are small and chubby, with stubby limbs and oversized heads to make them resemble children.” The word chibi can also be translated as “little” or “cute.”

Chibi has become popular due to its use in anime and manga. When drawing a chibi character, the head usually takes up one third to one half of the cartoon’s height. The design, including the features of the face, is also simplified and less detailed when compared to other drawing styles.

Chibi drawing styles are used occasionally in non-chibi cartoons to achieve a comedic effect. The chibi character is often expressing a strong emotion, such as anger or infatuation. Examples can be found in anime such as Pokémon and One Piece. Chibi caricatures are also drawn of famous people and historical figures.

How To Draw Anime Characters

Pin by Erland Eveson on food drawing

Many beginners choose anime/manga as their first drawing style, because it looks very simple and appealing. However, if you want to draw a manga character from scratch, you need to understand the proportions and structure of the body. And if you want to draw anime bodies from imagination, you even need to know human anatomy. So while drawing anime characters is easier than drawing realistically, it’s still not easy!

In this tutorial, I will show you the basics of drawing the bodies of anime characters. I’ll show you how to start a manga drawinghow to define a pose for your character and how to make sure the proportions are correct. Then I’ll show you how to turn this “skeleton” into a 3D structure and how to add muscles to it.

You’ll learn everything you need to know to draw an anime character from scratchthe gesture, proportions, forms, and anatomy. It’s all explained on a beginner level!

Anime Style Food Drawing

Line art: To paint food in anime style, you either typically draw a very thin line art, or no line at all like in realist paintings. But for my images, I will go for the thin line art and then, color them later when I get to coloring. Because even if there is line art on the food, it is not always necessarily black, but rather colored according to the foods own base color. When it comes to the plates, line art is generally existent.Coloring: Unlike the anime characters that consist of one flat color and simple shading, food coloring generally goes beyond the color scheme of its anime, and has a more realistic tune to it. Nonetheless, there is a variance across different animes. While Heidi has a very simplistic dual color scheme with hard lines, Food Wars has a more realistic style where line art is not visible and the color palette is rich with soft gradual transitions between different colors. In the meantime, Studio Ghibli style stays somewhere in between.

Drawing A Cold Stare Anime Yandere Character

The cold stare face is one the yandere character tends to make when her true colors come out. Usually its towards a female rival but can be for anyone she is upset with.

For this type of face draw the eyes very slightly squinted with the bottom eyelids in reverse of their normal cures. Draw the pupils of the eyes very small in relation to the iris with no shadows and small highlights/reflections.

Draw the inner ends of the eyebrows raised and draw the mouth just very lightly open with the top lip raised and revealing some of the teeth.

Draw The Outlines Of The Food

The food items we will draw inside the lunch box are:

  • Rice
  • Eggs
  • Deep Fried Meat or Vegetables

Start by drawing the basic shapes of these items without any of the smaller inner details. If drawing using paper and pencil be sure to make very light lines for the food items as you may have to erase some to tweak their size and positioning to make sure they fit nicely into the lunch box.

For advice on good drawing practices check:

You can see the fully visible outlines of each of the food items in this tutorial in the example above.

Drawing Tsundere Anime Character

How to Draw Pancake | How to Draw Anime Food MS Paint Tutorial

For those that dont know a tsundere is a character that may act somewhat hostile at times but it actually nice. These types of characters usually have trouble showing their true feelings and get embarrassed when they do.

For a tsunderes normal expression you can pretty much draw her the same as you would the ordinary girl.

Some small tweaks you can make are drawing the top eyelids slightly lower down and drawing a slightly smaller mouth to give her less of a smile.

You can also draw slightly smaller irises and pupils than the ordinary girl. This will give her a slightly less friendly but still normal appearance.

Pigtails may be a good hairstyle for a tsundere to give the character a slightly more childish/immature appearance.

Incorporating Plot And Dialogue

  • 1Incorporate dialogue that matches the motivation and personalities of the characters. Once you have characters and a world, you can start turning the characters interacting with the world into a story. This involves creating dialogue. Use dialogue that matches the situation and the character. Try to make the dialogue as realistic as possible. Think about the way you talk and create conversations like that. Conversations are rarely 100 % directed. They sway and change the subject constantly. Figure out a way to add authenticity, and humor to your dialogue.
  • 2Make sure that you have a beginning, middle, and end. The beginning, middle, and end dont have to be incredibly distinctive, but keeping this organization in mind will help you plan out your plot. Take a look at other classic books and start to figure out what the beginning middle and end of those stories are.
  • For example, maybe the beginning of your anime has the protagonists little brother falling in a slime pit. The middle could be when your protagonist deciding to travel alone into the slime pit wearing an anti-slime suit to try to find his little brother. The end would be the thrilling conclusion where the slime demons living in the slime pit allow only one of the brothers to leave, and your protagonist stays behind so that his little brother can go home. • Draw The Sides Of The Hair

After placing all of the facial features you can move on to drawing the hair.

To emphasize that the character is beautiful we will give her a fairly neat hair style.

When drawing the hair you can think of it as being split into the sides, front and back/top sections. For a more detailed explanation of this as well as examples of other hair styles see:

Begin by drawing the sides part of the hair. In this case these will be two fairly long clumps that begin from around the top of the head and end with a pair of splits slightly below the shoulders.

Make these slightly curved as though they are hugging the head/face and also make them slightly wider towards the bottom.

Drawing A Shy Anime Character With An Awkward Look

When dealing with other characters the shy characters often tend to avoid eye contact and look down. They may also have a bit of a nervous smile.

For the awkward expression draw the eye/eyes looking down as mentioned above with the bottom part of the iris slightly covered by the bottom eyelid. Leave a bit of space between the iris and the top eyelid.

How To Draw An Anime Torso And Breasts

The whole body is well established, so now we only need to add the details. Even if you don’t care much about showing the muscle definition, the anatomy still influences the final look of the body, so you can’t ignore it. So let’s take a closer look at the anatomy of anime bodies.

The torso is the simplest to draw because it has big, clear muscle masses, and it doesn’t change shape too much. The abs and the pectorals are the muscles known even to laymen, so make sure to mark them.

    Creating Heat Effect For Food

When I think about mouth-watering foods, the first thing that comes to my mind are the freshly cooked main dishes. For many foods, heat triggers the chemical reaction that will enhance flavor and adds aroma when applied sufficiently. The reaction in our taste buds transmits a signal going to our brain, which will be more intense when the food temperature increases. Therefore, it would be better if we draw food looking hot, as if it has freshly came out of the oven. To accomplish that, we need to add steam. To give steamy look, first we can pick the white color and use the soft brush from the airbrush tool. And we can draw a rough steam and reduce the opacity of the layer to our liking. For me, I chose 45%.

After this, we select the Smudge tool from the Blend Tool set. And smudge certain parts of the steam to give it more complex shape as shown below.

Lastly, for the background, I preferred a wooden table underneath. But if you want to go for a more exaggerated anime look, we can draw a background using the gradient tool, which I will do for sundae below.

    Beginning To Animate Your Anime

  • 1Start by drawing your world in an animation program. You can find many free web animation programs online that allow you to easily create a world and character. Youve already decided what you want the world the look like, so now you just need to bring it to life. Take your time and dont worry if it changes from your original plan.
  • 2Draw your characters. Make your characters in the same animation program. Refer to the drawings and sketches that you have already done in order to inform your final product.
  • 3Draw your characters interacting with the world. Now, all you have to do is combine the characters and the world. This will immediately start to give you ideas for stories and potential plot lines to follow. Maybe your characters want to explore those massive cliffs out in the distance that they have never been to before. Maybe the sun is getting dimmer and dimmer each day and they have to figure out what is going on. The environment can be a huge impetus in any story, and anime is no different.
  • For example, maybe your world has giant slime pits all over the place. Maybe your main character’s little brother falls into one of these slime pits and the other characters have to figure out a way to save him. Now, you have the beginning of a plot!

Drawing An Angry Tough Anime Character

How to Draw Ramen | How to Draw Anime Food MS Paint Tutorial

The though girl anime characters tend to be fairly emotional and can get angry easily.

For the angry face draw the eyes a lot more squinted than normal and the eyebrows even lower down.

Draw the mouth open and fairly wide with the bottom being slightly wider than the top.

You can also give her a bit of medical tape on her cheek to reinforce the idea of her active character .

Tips On How To Draw Ice

Later, I started drawing the ice cream. For this I have a time-saving tip. I used the three colors that I have drawn below. First I filled my flat color. Secondly with the soft airbrush and I drew some lines parallel to each other. After, with the Finger tip option in the blend tool, I smudged in the same direction. Later, with the dark color, I drew fine lines with the pen tool. Lastly, I smudged them along the same direction.

And the end result looks like this.

Space The Eyes Horizontally & Draw Their Basic Outlines

When spacing the eyes horizontally you will want to leave about enough room between them that you can fit in another eye.

When actually drawing the eyes make them fairly narrow with relatively thick sets of top eyelashes.

At this stage you can simply outline the basic shape of the eyes without drawing all of the smaller details such as the eyelashes.

The goal is to first correctly place all the facial features.

    Drawing Anime & Manga Hair

Anime hair is often based on real hairstyles but tends to be drawn in clumps rather than individual strands. One good reason for this is that if you are drawing multiple frames of animation or multiple panels of a manga it will simply be too time consuming to draw anything overly detailed.

A good approach to drawing anime hair is to split it into several different parts such as the front, sides and back/top .

For drawing characters that can go along with these hairstyles see:

    Add The Small Details

How To Draw Food Reference Book

After you finish drawing the outlines of the hair and placing all of the facial features you can then draw all of the small details.

In this case those will be:

    • Inner details of the eyes
    • Hair folds

While the eyes in that example are slightly different all of the drawing steps can be applied to the example in this tutorial.

You can see a basic step by step drawing of the details of the eyes above. Also please note that the irises are shaded grey just to make the highlights in the final drawing a bit easier to see. If you are going to be coloring the eyes you may wish to make them a different color.

When done with the eyes you can add a few extra hair folds as shown in the first example.

Finally you can also add a little beauty mark/mole just slightly below one of the eyes . This will again help emphasize that the girl is beautiful as some famous models have these.

You can see a slightly larger version of the face above to make it a little bit easier to see.
