Adding Reflections To Sunglasses With Photoshop
In this , we’re going learn how to add reflections, or at least, different reflections, to sunglasses. This is a popular Photoshop effect and opens up a world of creative and artistic possibilities depending on who is wearing the sunglasses and who or what you have them looking at.
Here’s the image I’ll be using for this tutorial:
If we look closely, we can see that there already is a faint reflection in her sunglasses, and it looks like she’s standing on the side of a road if I’m not mistaken. To me, she could just as easily be standing on a tropical beach, so we’re going to give her more mirror-like reflective lenses and have her looking towards the water instead by using this photo:
as the reflection in her sunglasses:
Step 1: Select One Of The Lenses
We need to work on one lens at a time, so let’s begin with the lens on the left . To complete the work on the other lens, all we’ll need to do is repeat the same steps we’re about to do. First, we need to select the lens, so select around the outside of it using the selection tool of your choice :
Step 2: Create A New Blank Layer
With the lens selected, click on the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers palette to add a new blank layer above the original Background layer, which is the layer that contains our original image:
Step 3: Fill The Selection With Black On The New Layer
Press Ctrl+D / Command+D when you’re done to deselect the selection.
Step 4: Drag The Second Image Into The Document

Drawing A Solid Anime Blush
The simplest blush to draw. You can indicate this blush with just a set of two ovals on the cheeks. You can also make these bean like shapes instead.
Generally this type of blush is used on more stylized or Chibi anime characters but more serious looking characters can have it as well.
For an example of drawing a chibi character you can check:
Above you can see how the solid blush will look on a more standard anime character.
You can also draw a larger version of the solid blush with just one shape going across the nose and onto the cheeks. It may be a good idea to slightly curve this shape so it does not go over the bottom of the nose area.
Again in the above example you can see how this type of blush will look with all of the facial features.

Many people who like the anime. Besides being an interesting storyline and there is a thick emotional impression. Several places in the anime are in the real world. Drawing A Gradient Anime Blush
The gradient or blurred brush is slightly more realistic looking. To draw this blush you can simply blend it outwards from a point below each cheek.
You can see how the blurred/gradient blush looks with the facial features in the example above.
For the larger version of this blush you can again make one shape that curves slightly above the bottom area of the nose.
Again in the above example you can see the large gradient blush with the facial features.
Why Do Glasses Always Shine In Anime
I’m not new to anime of or anything but I’m bored right now and this just came to my mind. Why do chracters wearing glasses shiny/glow?
To indicate there are glasses. It’s a technique used in art since glass was invented.
Without the glow, you’ll feel a little weird, as if they have no lens.
Didn’t even notice it but now that you mention it, Kobayashi’s glasses are hardly noticeable.
While this may not be the case for most anime, in a lot of shows, you can “hide” the nature of a character by not showing their eyes.
Eyes are easily the most distinguishing feature in anime for conveying not just expressions, but also the nature of a character. So, usually for villains, blocking out the eyes gives us a sense of “we don’t know his intentions completely”.

Drawing Anime Blush With Strokes
A striped anime blush is made with just a few line strokes and is fairly easy to draw. Simply make two sets of angled lines around the cheek areas. For a nicer looking blush make the outer stripes a bit shorter and the inner stripes a bit longer. Aim for a combined shape that can fit inside a stretched oval. Alternatively you can also make all of the stripes pretty much the same length.
Above you can see the example of the striped blush drawn with all of the facial features.
For a bigger striped blush you can draw it as one set of strokes going all the way across the nose area. You can again make the strokes longer in the middle and shorter at the outer edges.
As you can see above this type of blush may be more appropriate for a more emotional face.
Glowing Comic/anime Character Glasses
When tasked with creating a STEM activity for my local library’s teen manga and anime club, I knew almost immediately that I wanted to make a pair of scary shiny glasses, having previously seen a viral video where someone else had created his own pair.
A trope made popular by comic book and manga/anime characters, like Kevin from the comic book series turned movie Sin City and Kyouya Ootori from the manga/anime Ouran High School Host Club, the glasses seemed like a fitting project for a group of teenagers who were likely to be budding cosplayers, and given the popularity of the trope, the teens could utilize the glasses for a variety of character costumes. However, the pair of light-up glasses featured in the video were–in my opinion–unnecessarily bulky and complex, especially for the time constraints of my two-hour class. So, in coming up with my own design, I knew I wanted deviate from the original in two ways:
First, I needed to create the glasses without the use of a soldering iron because, even if I had the time to teach approximately 15 teenagers how to solder, there wouldn’t be enough irons to go around, and taking turns using the one or two available soldering irons would cut into precious class time.

Drawing A Combined Anime Blush
In some styles of anime and manga blush is shown with a combination of stripes and either a gradient or solid shape . To draw this type of blush first draw the gradient and then add the stripes over top .
Once again you can see how the blush will look like on a fully drawn out face in the example above.
For a larger version of the combined blush you can yet again simply draw it as one big blur going over the nose area and add a single set of lines over top.
In this final example you can again see what this blush can look like with the facial features.

Understanding The Placement Of Anime Glasses On The Head
In the above example the glasses are drawn over top of all head and facial features so that you can see exactly how they will be place on the head .
Just like real glasses they will usually rest on the nose and go around the ears.
Because anime noses are often very simplified it might be a little tricky to correctly place that part of the glasses. If you place it too high or too low it might make it look like nose is too short or too long. Be aware of this when drawing.
As anime eyes are usually drawn much larger then real eyes you may have to accommodate for that as well by drawing larger lenses.

Bonus: How To Create Accessories
Creating a zine or a comic is pretty complex, so why not start with creating small items?
Today, I will explain how to prepare art for acrylic keychains, which are easy to make and look cute with chibi characters!
An acrylic keychain usually requires three separate data, depending on the printing vendor template.
Open the template, and paste these images on separate layers, usually the following:
Then, send the data to the printing vendor.
For the artwork, choose the data you want to use.
At the top, indicate where to place the hole for the keyring chain.
Make sure you dont draw anything over the hole.
The white fill is the base color under the illustration.
Without this white base, the illustration will be printed directly on the transparent acrylic, which makes the colors appear translucent and hard to see.
To print your illustration as you created it, make sure to create a white fill layer.
It is easy to create this data create a duplicate of the illustration layer and fill it with a solid color. The printing vendor will print this layer in white.
Because it sits under the illustration, the shape should be a silhouette of the artwork. If you want certain parts to appear transparent, you can remove the white fill on those parts.
Cut area shows where the acrylic board will be cut.
The layer can be purely black. Fill the area surrounding the illustration in black.
Avoid creating a complex cut border, as the keyring maker may not be able to cut it.
Drawing Glasses In The Anime & Manga Style
For the front view of anime glasses draw them pretty much as you would draw real glasses while keeping all the things mentioned in the previous step in mind.
In the side view example above you can see something that tends to be fairly common for anime glasses . That is any portion of the frame of the glasses that would be covering the eyes simply being cut out.
Why is this done? One guess is that it simply allows the artist to better show the characters eyes and might also save them some time when drawing.

Animes Impossible In Real
Fashion brand brings an anime aesthetic trick into the three-dimensional realm.
Pretty much all animation is stylized to a degree, but anime is especially committed to the concept of If it looks cool, go for it. Thats how we ended up with such distinct visual calling cards as huge anime eyes, vividly colored anime hair, and those snazzy anime glasses.
Wait, anime glasses? Yep. While it doesnt show up in each and every series, theres a pretty common trick where animators will simply leave out a portion of the temple of a characters eyeglasses, right about where the hinges connect them to the rest of the frame.
This is usually done when showing the characters face in profile, and it makes it look like the glasses are somehow floating. However, it keeps the characters eye from being visually obstructed, allowing the artist to better convey emotion while also making any movement of the eye easier to animate.
Of course, this is just another of animes many, many breaks with reality, and isnt possible with real glasses, right? Dont be so sure, because Japanese fashion company ekoD Works recently tweeted out photos of its newly designed anime glasses!
