What To Watch Next Anime

Fullmetal Alchemist And Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Every New ISEKAI & FANTASY Anime To Watch Next Season!

Not quite as cerebral or surreal as other shows in this list, FMA is a tightly wound high-fantasy series that has garnered several generations of fans. A bit of explanation: Full Metal Alchemist takes a turn halfway through that changes the story vastly from the series source material, while Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a more strictly adhered-to adaptation of the original books. Most FMA acolytes think the latter is far superior, but both are excellent. Telling the story of Edward and Alphonse Elric, brothers who survived a traumatic magical accident now hoping to right their mistakes of the past, the show explores themes of filial piety and the ramifications of global war.

Total Episodes: 64

Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

At first glance, Unlimited Blade Works seems to copy the first few episodes of the original Fate/stay night adaptation. However, things begin to change when Shirou Emiya and Rin Tohsaka are forced to team up for their survival. This time around, Shirou begins to have a growing friendship with the more experienced magi Tohsaka. At the same time, Shirou explores his immense dislike of her Servant, the mysterious Archer.

This adaptation branches away out of the VN’s “Fate Route” and takes its “Unlimited Blade Works Route,” where Rin becomes Shirou’s leading lady. Given its recent adaptation, UBW 2014 has quite the striking visuals and more fleshed-out characters.

Why Watch It? Given its more updated visuals, UBW finally gets to showcase the awesome fight scenes that the 2006 anime failed to show and the VN only got to describe in words. Fans of the Nasuverse’s tendencies for technical magical jargon will love the serious take towards magic here. This is a perfect gateway to Fate/Zero, another anime that tries to get technical on the Holy Grail War.

Fate/grand Order The Movie Divine Realm Of The Round Table: Camelot

Courtesy of Operation Grand Order, Chaldea’s Ritsuka and Mash travel in time to “repair” Singularities that would cause Earth’s destruction in 2016. This time around, they stumble upon their sixth Singularity during the Crusades.

As with the other Grand Order media, the two-part Camelot films cover the sixth chapter of the Grand Order game. Newcomers who get to watch the films will appreciate the rather solid narrative, despite only being a part of a larger story. Conversely, fans will love how Camelot manages to tackle this chapter in both a self-contained story while also sharing its larger implications to the overall plot.

Why Watch It? While the movie takes place in the sixth chapter of the game, Camelot won’t fail to help viewers get reacquainted with the rest of the story. With each chapter of Grand Order being its own standalone arc, viewers with no prior knowledge of the game won’t have a hard time getting dragged into Ritsuka and Mash’s timeline-saving adventures.

What Anime Should YOU Watch Next? 5 Minute Quiz!

Now this is what I call an anime that keeps you on your toes. Some of the most OP characters and mind games. The vibe is too strong and you are always a lot of steps behind the MC.

Nobody can match his mind games and calculation , everyone else will feel like a kid as compared to him. Now there is action , cute characters and good plot , school setting. Totally worth watching.

    Sword Of The Stranger

Finally, Sword of the Stranger may be the closest parallel on this list to The Green Knight. The only film on the list, the movie follows a young boy, Kotarou, and his pet dog, Tobimaru. They make a meager living stealing and running from town to town while pursued by assassins with unknown goals. When they encounter a wandering ronin, Nanashi, Kotarou bribes him into becoming their bodyguard and they set out on a perilous journey to safety.

Sword of the Stranger is both similar to The Green Knight and very different. Both have their historical settings, but Sword of the Strangers Sengoku-period Japan gives a very different landscape and culture than what many Western audiences may be familiar with. Again, the heroes are similar, with both Gawain and Nanashi unwilling to go on the quests theyve been given, but the promises of rewards at the end are enough to motivate them. And both films have similarly tragic endings – though to say any more would be to spoil two incredible movies.

Choose A Genre Thats Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Until 2018 I never watched a Shoujo anime in my life.

Not because Im a sexist pig whos hates women and hopes they all rot in a cave. But because It was unfamiliar to me.

When somethings unfamiliar you have the tendency to avoid it, or ignore it subconsciously.

Nana is the anime that introduced me to the Shoujo genre. And I dont regret it.

Its a Shoujo series with heart. Describing the lives of 20 year olds and the heart-break and romance that comes with it. In a way thats realistic and stacked full of depth.

It opened up a world of new anime to me. The kind of anime few people seem to recommend, or at least that was the case beforehand.

It knocked me out of my what anime should I watch next fog, and lit a fire under my anime belly all over again.

And the rut died a beautiful death.

If you wanna knock yourself out of the rut youre stuck in, which is slang for: Im conflicted, try something out of your comfort zone.

Or something youre not used to watching in general.

Ecchi , Psychological, Horror, Mystery, Police, Yuri It doesnt matter what it is. Just try it.

You never know what itll do for you, but one things for sure: the so-called RUT will fade away, as if being blown away by the wind itself.

    Away From What You Love

That means avoiding all together, and not watching anything new, old, or anything in between.

Ive stepped away from anime for weeks just to get away from it. I got sick of it at some point, and taking a step back rekindled my interest in giving it another try.

Its hard to watch anime when you watch so many, that make you lose interest quicker than looking at 4 walls as if youre in a 24 hour prison.

That might not make sense, but it works. The reason people burn out or get tired of something is because theyre getting too much of it.

So stepping away from it gives you the chance to take a break and look at things from a birds eye point of view.

The kind of view you cant see if youre buried in anime all day, everyday.

That always works for me, and in fact it tends to work for life in general. No matter what it is.

You cant always be all in and thats true even for a guy like me.

    Kaze Ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru

What anime should I watch next?

First aired: 2018 | Episodes: 23Where to watch it: Crunchyroll

Any good sports anime will leave you wired with tension, glued to each play and each moment of team bonding. Long-distance track racing however, is not necessarily a sport that makes people dizzy with adrenaline, and so Production I.G., a studio that really knows their sports , takes things down a notch.

Meet Kakeru, a former ace runner who lost his friends and his club due to an altercation in high school. Now a university student, he gets invited to a downtrodden dormitory. It turns out that the dorm houses the involuntary members of a running club, all roped in by Haiji Kiyose, who wants them to participate in the Hakone Ekiden, the most prestigious university relay race in all of Japan.

Its a ridiculous plan, but the series takes you all the way from a group of young men refusing to even entertain the idea to reluctant training and finally, the race. Each of them faces different personal issues, and if theres one reason you likely wont expect from a sports anime, its sobbing like a baby when one of them has a breakthrough. The emotional depth of Run with the Wind is just that great, and its nice to see an anime like this focus on the issues of young men, rather than high school students.

    Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Top Anime You Should Watch Next – Otaku International Short

First aired: 2007 | Episodes: 27Where to watch: Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll

No show better exemplifies the Japanese theme of fighting spirit better than Gainax’s exuberant, over-the-top mecha masterpiece Gurren Lagann. This is the same animation studio that made Evangelion in the ’90s, but the two couldn’t be more different in how they use giant robots. Gurren Lagann begins with humanity cowering in underground societies, scared of the surface above. It ends with giant robots in space throwing literal solar systems at one another.

Every step of the way it’s a story about the power of the human spirit, having the strength to never give up, and using that will plus a giant fucking drill to pierce the heavens. The rare show that can make your heart soar with excitement and make you cry within the same episode. Every time you think it can’t get more dramatic, more emotional, more over-the-top, it will exceed your expectations. The absolute pinnacle of unrestrained anime action.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 2

The highly anticipated second season of the acclaimed Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba series took an unconventional approach this year. Instead of airing a full season of new footage, Ufotable split the season into two parts: the Mugen Train arc, which re-edits the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train movie into a seven-episode storyline with additional content, and the Entertainment District arc, a brand-new arc that takes places immediately following the events of Mugen Train. The Mugen Train movie itself was impressive, so its no surprise to see how well it plays out across the episodic television arc. While it may be a tad soon to endorse the Entertainment District arc, season two of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba so far has established itself as a worthy follow-up to the 2019 smash-hit. TE

Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation.

A Silent Voice Depicts Another Girl Coming Out Of Her Shell

A Silent Voice, based on the original manga of the same name, also takes place in high school and deals with some relatable themes. The hero is Shoya Ishida, a reformed bully who’s desperate for redemption and a chance to make things right, mostly in terms of his hard-of-hearing classmate, Shoko Nishimiya.

A Silent Voice has more drama than Komi Can’t Communicate, but otherwise, these two series have many similar elements, including a shy and kind girl whose life is transformed by the people around her. Both series also have a theme of acceptance, both of oneself and others.
