The 1997 iteration of the Berserk anime is not available on Funimation either. The best dubbed-anime source in the US doesnt offer this series to its subscribers, which is a bit surprising, but if Crunchyroll doesnt have it, Funimation wont have it either.
One major issue with Funimation, in general, is that it is not available around the world, so even if you could stream the complete 1997 iteration of the Berserk anime series, youd only be able to access it from a limited number of countries. Luckily, these problems dont apply to this show.
Did The Manga End
Currently, the final installment of the manga is set to release in November for US fans. Volume 41 is said to be still drawn by Miura himself before his ultimate passing. Publications have not made any further announcements if any of the artists will pick up the manga to continue the story.
Before his passing, Miura mentioned that Berserk was already 70 % finished. With that, we know the final chapter is not the supposed ending that Miura intended, and the much-awaited fight between Guts and Griffith may never happen.

Bottom line, Berserk is fine dark fantasy material, with great action and story and characters. The manga version is of course continuing the story far more than where the anime stops and features far more gore and sex scenes. The 1997 Berserkanime series is based on the manga series of the same name by Kentaro Miura. The episodes are directed by Naohito Takahashi and animated by Oriental Light and Magic. The first thirteen volumes of the manga are covered. The series’ twenty-five episodes aired between October 8, 1997 and April 1, 1998 in Japan on Nippon TV.
The series focuses on the life of Guts, an orphaned mercenary warrior who calls himself “The Black Swordsman”, as he looks upon his days serving as a member of a group of mercenaries, the Band of the Hawk. Guts, a mercenary, draws the attention of the Band of the Hawk after killing Bazuso during a siege and being compelled to join the organization after being defeated twice by Griffith, the gangs commander.
The Hawks were eventually utilized by the Kingdom of Midland during the Hundred Year War with the Tudor Empire, with Griffith elevating the kingdoms hierarchy following his groups devastation of the Black Ram Iron Lance Cavalry.
Guts and Griffith meet the demon Nosferatu Zodd during one siege, who observes the Behelit around Griffiths neck and tells Guts that Griffith will be his destiny.
