Why Cards Are Rising In Value Right Now
Pokémon card sales and prices have skyrocketed this year, with some cards selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
On Thursday, a sealed box of Pokémon booster packs sold for a record $360,000 through Heritage Auctions, while a similar set sold for $198,000 only two months ago. According to eBay, there were 60% more Pokemon card sales on its platform in September compared to January of this year.
YouTube stars, celebrities and investors have dropped big bucks on cards, which has contributed to the frenzy and helped push up their value. That, in turn, has encouraged others to snap up cards in hopes that theyll be able to turn a profit.
Publicity is always something that can drum up momentum and price, said Eugene Smith, a 24-year-old card collector and investor from Tampa, Florida, who also happens to work in finance.
When I was a kid I absolutely loved Pokémon but couldnt afford the cards, Logic .
People my age are finally in their late-20s, mid-30s, and they can afford the stuff they liked when they were kids, said Jesus Garcia, an assistant comics & comic art operations supervisor at Heritage Auctions.

Tips For Locating Pokmon
The most basic way to find Pokémon near you is to wander the vicinity and use the locator map. The nearby function often works well to alert you when Pokémon are within catching distance. If there arent any Pokémon nearby, you have three obvious and easy options:
- Visit a nearby PokéStop. PokéStops are the blue markers that show you where to go in the real world to get to your next Pokémon sighting. They also are kind of like supply depots for the game, where you can pick up more Poké Balls and eggs for hatching.
- Use an incense item in your location. This will draw out nearby Pokémon like a moth to a flame.
- Visit a nearby PokéStop and either piggyback off someone elses lure or attach your own lure to the PokéStop. The lure is designed to, er, lure nearby Pokémon to the stop for the following 15 minutes though it might also lure nearby Pokémon Go players looking to take advantage of your lure.
If you really want to find rare Pokémon, however, youre going to have to travel. Luckily, there are ways to expedite your road trips to make your Pokémon hunt count.
Tip: Get more Poké Balls and find more Pokémon at gas stations.
If youre stuck and need more Poké Balls, one easy answer is to buy them. But if you cant afford to buy more Poké Balls, you can also get more by going to a PokéStop.
Tip: Use the Ingress map.
Tip: Check to see if your local team is mapping your area.
Tip: Use the bus.

Pokemon Go Johto Collection Challenge Rewards
The Johto Collection Challenge obviously doesnt come with rewards as good as the other timed research, that features a legendary Pokemon in the form of Ho-Oh. However, while these rewards arent the worst, they could be a lot better with some good encounters, lucky eggs, or incubators.
We dont get any of those but what we do get is 15 PokeBalls, 10 Ultra Balls, and a singular Incense. While these may not seem like a very good reward, you at least get a badge as well. This badge adds to your Elite Collector Badge and the bragging rights that hands to you are priceless.

Tropical Mega Battle: $10000
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, an annual Pokemon Trading Card Game tournament was held in Honolulu, Hawaii. At this 1999 event, just 12 of these Tropical Mega Battle cards were produced to be distributed to some of the lucky 50 players who attended the event, meaning the remaining number of mint copies is especially low all these years later.
Showing a Psyduck having a nap in a hammock on a tropical island, this legendary Trainer Card sells for a whole lot of cash thanks to its rarity. In fact, according to the Telegraph, a mint-condition version of the card once sold for $10,000, making it a prime example of how valuable Pokemon TCG prize cards can eventually be.

Ash Got Pikachu As A Result Of Oversleeping
Ash’s constant companion, Pikachu wasn’t caught but given to him in “Pokémon – I Choose You!,” the very first episode of the anime. On the day Ash was old enough to get his first Pokémon from Professor Oak, he overslept. In his sleep, Ash had thrown his Voltorb alarm clock on the floor and broken it. By the time he got to Professor Oak’s lab to choose his first Pokémon, the ones he’d had eyes on had gone to other Trainers, leaving him with Pikachu. It wasn’t easy from the start, with Pikachu shocking Ash when he tried to hug him and refusing to battle or go into its Poké Ball. But when the two encountered an angry flock of Spearow, Ash protected Pikachu, marking their first instance of bonding. Since then, they’ve been on countless adventures, hardly ever leaving each other’s side, and it all started because of a broken alarm clock.
Did Better: More Risky Battles
Pokémon has a more structured set of rules. The Pokémon Championships and Gym Challenges have set guidelines with penalties. Break them, and the trainer will be forced to leave the field. Battles outside the battlefield also have unwritten rules. If a Pokémon is injured, trainers can stop the fight and take them to a Pokémon Center. Opponents are often kinder and wont try to destroy anothers Pokémon.
In Digimon, the DigiDestined primarily battle within the Digital World. Their battles may occur at any time, so Digimon have to be ready. When Digimon do fight, there are no rules. They fight until theyre too injured to continue. Some may even fight until theyre eliminated.

I Wanna Be The Very Best
One of the reasons that so many adults have warm fuzzies for the franchise is the storytelling around it. Premiering in 1997, the anime story of Ash Ketchum and his quest to become a Pokémon master has been a constant companion of the franchise through 24 years and hundreds of episodes. It also had a tremendous impact on the woman who would one day voice the young hero of Pallet Town.
It was hard for me even as a kid to see it as a fad, because of the show, Sarah Natochenny says. It had heart, relatable characters, and adorable, unique creatures. This wasnt just a game or set of toys. Pokémon had a story.
Natochenny is an artist with eclectic talents and interests. After winning a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics in rhythmic gymnastics in 1999, she studied at the Strasberg Theater Institute for four years while also doing improv at UCB, and taking voice and dance classes on the side. In 2006, she auditioned for the role of Ash Ketchum in the Pokémon animes English dub, taking over for the roles progenitor, Veronica Taylor.
Pokémon was the biggest job I booked. It was only my second voiceover job, after a medical industrial, Natochenny says. I was the perfect age when Pokémon first came to America, and I loved the show and remember begging my parents for the cards. I had one deck. I have no idea where it is or whether or not there was a million-dollar card in there.

To the untrained eye, the Charizard Base Set Unlimited Print 4/102 may look identical to the most expensive and rarest Pokémon card on this list, but there are many key differences. This edition of the original English language Base Set Charizard card features the same artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita, but it lacks the 1st Edition stamp and also features a drop shadow to the right of the art panel. This card was part of the Unlimited print run of the 1999 Pokémon Base Set meaning its 1st Edition counterpart is a much more rare Pokémon card. The original publisher of the English Pokémon card game was Wizards of the Coast, and after their initial print runs of the Pokémon Base Set, they received some criticism that the card design was too boring. To combat these complaints they added a shadow effect to the right side of the art panel. While the shadow may have made the card look more aesthetically pleasing back in the day, today it does carry a more affordable price tag. A Charizard Base Set Unlimited Print 4/102 PSA 10 sold for as high as $8,100 on StockX making it the second most expensive Pokémon card to sell on StockX.
And Gen 1 Pokmon That Evolve And Power Up Gen 2
Good call! Blissey is the obvious Gym-topper here. She evolves from Chansey with 50 Candy, no Evolution Item required. Espeon is close behind, one of the two new Eevolutions in Gen 2. Only 25 Candy and no Evolution Item, but you only get one with the Sakura nickname trick. The rest youll have to make a Buddy, walk 10 KM, and then evolve during the day. Scisor will cost you 50 Scyther Candy and a Metal Coat Evolution Item, put itll also pack a punch. Er, blade.
Because theyre hard to get, you may not need to stock up too much on Candy for the other Evolution Item Pokémon but you want to make sure you have enough Candy when you need it, and then youll want enough to power up.
