How To Be An Anime Character

Character Design Vs Normal Drawing

How to be an Anime Character on Zoom for Free

Designing a character for an anime or a manga is quite different than doing a one time sketch. In a one time drawing you only have to worry about what your subject will look like from that one view for that one drawing. In a manga or an animation a character will likely have to be drawn many times from multiple views/angles.

Two very important aspects to designing anime and manga characters:

  • A character for a manga or an animation should have a reasonably simple design .
  • You need to consider how a manga or anime character will look from all views/angles .
  • Most Popular Characters In Anime History

An anime’s popularity hinges on its characters. These are some of the most well received anime characters out there.

As hard as it is to admit, judging an anime is not always about the quality of the writing or animation. More often than not, it brings fans of any age back to the wild tribalism of their middle school lunch room as dominance is decided, not by wit or strength, but by a popularity contest. Which kid had the coolest shoes? Who had a cookie in their Lunchables? Whose dad “works at Nintendo”?

As is constant with the early days of humankind, those who stand at the top are those who are most popular, and this is no different for anime and its characters, where the next casual fan may have their next anime of choice dictated by what they see the most, either in the recommendations of YouTube or on the backpacks and t-shirts of their fellow weebs.

Whether it be the best looking, more intriguing, or most badass character, anime as a medium is one that is often defined by its most popular characters. Whether they perfectly condense all that one loves about a series into a personified form or just absolutely steal the show, anime characters are a performance worth paying for on their own. Bringing things back to the glory days of that middle school lunchroom, this list will be deciding who really is the coolest of the cool, as it runs down the Top 10 most popular characters in anime history .

    Rock Lee Or Sailor Mars

Rock Lee is pictured here getting himself ready for an epic fist fight. He wouldn’t hit a girl though, would he? Well, he might have to in order to defend himself, since Sailor Mars has nearly god level power. Which character do you like more?

Misty, famous for her role in the Pokemon series, is put up against Naruto’s Gaara in this halfway point of our quiz. You might be biased depending on which of their series you prefer, but we’ll overlook that – go ahead and press buttons.

Here are two very cool characters from two very famous shows: Piccolo from Dragon Ball Z and Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon. Piccolo has the advantage in battling capabilities, though Tuxedo Mask beats him when it comes to mystery. Who’s better?

Lucy, from Elfen Lied fame, is a deeply troubled, deeply powerful anomaly in the world, just looking to find her way amid a sea of chaos. Meanwhile, Beerus is the God of Destruction from the Dragon Ball universe, so they’re a good match.

Combine Google Image Search With Keyword Search

A pretty neat trick is combining google image search with keywords that you yourself have identified as relevant towards your anime or manga character. This is where your anime character recognizer skills can still come into play.

If you remember any relevant details about the person in the image, these extra keywords can massively improve the anime character search.

A simple example can be seen when we use the cropped image of Miyamoto Musashi from earlier with the keyword suggested by Google:

The related keyword illustration wouldnt be too much off in a general context, but since we are looking for a specific character, it simply wont do. The visually similar images are even more unhelpful and are clearly related to the suggested keyword, rather than our image.

If we, however, improve the anime character searcher query with a helpful keyword just to prove a point I will use a very good one we can see that our results will immediately return panels from the relevant Vagabond manga.

But even if you dont have keywords as good as that at your disposal, you could use various terms that describe your character and cycle through the results until you realise what anime character is this picture.

      Spreading Your Anime To Others

    • 1 This is the easiest way to make fans. Your family and friends are bound to be supportive and they will probably share your work with others that they know. This can help you build a small base.
    • 2Create a blog or website. Publishing your work on the Internet is a great way to start to build an audience. You cant expect to get paid for the stuff you create immediately, but if it becomes popular then you might be able to! Try to market your blog through social media by creating a Twitter and Facebook page for your anime.
    • 3Contact a publisher. Try to find someone who is excited enough about your story and anime to consider publishing it. You can find a publisher near you online. Look for someone who specializes in anime and who has a history of getting other young artists started. Who knows, they might love your work.
    • 4Send out your anime to competitions. If you dont want to send the whole story you can just send out chapters of your anime to shorter competitions. There are plenty of film and writing-related competitions that accept anime, as well as anime specific competitions that you can find online. Advertisement
    • Sailor Venus Or Shinichi Izumi

Sailor Venus is our final feature from the Sailor Moon series, and she’s up against Shinichi Izumi from Parasyte. The former is a well-established, iconic secondary anime character, while the other is a powerful up and comer. Who will you pick?

Drawing A Curious Bookworm Anime Character

How To Be An Anime Main Character

The curious expression is one the bookworm tends to have when reading or looking at something they are particularly interested in. In this expression the eyes are often hidden behind the reflection of the light in the glasses.

While the eyes are not shown in this expression you can still use the vertical halfway line to make sure you correctly position the glasses.

Draw the mouth close to a sort of rounded square shape with .

Search Anime Character By Image: Use A Meta Search Tool

To paraphrase a great article from DomainTools, the best reverse image search tool is all of them. One option then, would be to try out the anime characters visual search services I recommended one-by-one.

Another, smarter way, is to hit multiple birds with one stone and use a meta search tool, that performs the same anime character reverse image search on multiple services at the same time and displays the results on the same interface.

The tool to look at here would be hostingchecker.com. It provides a simple way to query the most reliable indexes: Google, TinEye, Bing, and Yandex with one request.

Essentially this is the biggest anime character database that one can process using online tools.

As an extra bonus, the service also generates google searches that combine your anime image with a domain search query to the most popular stock photo websites.

Drawing A Crazy Looking Anime Villain Character

To give the anime villain character that crazy or maniacal look they sometimes have draw the irises and pupils of the eyes very small so that there is a good bit of white space around them.

Draw the eyebrows somewhat lower in wave like shapes as the previous example but with their inner ends raised slightly back up again. Again dont add any shadows to the irises and draw only one set of reflections.

Draw the mouth with the teeth showing in a wide smile.

Eventually you should end up with crazy looking eyes and a grinning mouth. Prefect expression for a villain

Combine Google Image Search With A Domain Name

Another way to hack the anime character finder by image process is specifying a relevant domain along with the image search in google reverse image search.

The idea is that you will add a domain that has a high likelihood of containing relevant information, like sites you might use to find an anime character, or sites that contain a lot of content on various anime and manga topics.

Searching the entire domain for relevant results is kind of like a small anime character search engine that you can query in the exact way you want.

Make sure to pick a domain that might contain anime character identifier images as close yo your topic as possible as you can see when, I add the Vagabond Wiki to our image search, our anime identifier search response becomes much more interesting, since the images are handpicked by the Vagabond Wiki staff, not randomly queried from related domains by Google.

Satoru Gojo Of Jujutsu Kaisen Is By Far One Of The Strongest Anime Characters To Ever Live

If You Can Name These Anime Characters, You

Satoru Gojo powers: Overwhelming amounts of cursed energy, fast reflexes, powerful cursed techniques

Despite being a relatively new anime character, Jujutsu Kaisens Satoru Gojo makes it to the fifth spot on this list.

Gojo is undeniably the strongest anime character in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. Just how strong is Gojo? His birth is believed to have altered the balance of the world as stated in chapter 96 of Jujutsu Kaisens manga.

One of his familys techniques, the Six Eyes, lets him see cursed energy in detail. Gojo wears a blindfold to tone down the intensity of this ability. He also knows how to use Limitless, another technique that Satoru inherited from the Gojo clan.

Together with these two techniques and a firm command of manipulating cursed energy, Satoru Gojo is one of the strongest characters in the series who could potentially take down Sukuna, the main antagonist.

Aside from his strength, Gojo is also recognized for his handsomeness and charisma.

Anime Character Visual Search: Improve The Quality Of The Anime Image

When in spite of using all the best tools available, your anime character reverse image search still has not worked, it is time to update the source material itself.

First, make a backup of the picture you were using to find that anime character and try out the following tricks on the copy.

Make Sure the Anime Picture is not Flipped

This one may seem obvious, but if the image you are using for anime character visual search happens to be misaligned for some reason, it is a good idea to move it to a natural spot on the horizontal and vertical axis.

The best online tool for achieving this is probably Kapwing, but most operating systems come with some basic image editing tools that can achieve this result as well.

Crop or Blur Out Irrelevant Parts

A well known tweak for improving reverse image search results is removing blurring parts of the image that do help us find the anime character we are looking for. This includes all irrelevant details, like objects in the background logos, watermarks.

Since our aim is to reverse image search anime characters, we should blur out or crop out the background and make the the job easier for our anime character finder by image tools.

Increase The Resolution Of The Source Image

As a rule of thumb, the better the resolution of your image, the better results the anime character search engine will be able to deliver. Under 200×200 pixels you can be pretty sure that your image quality is unacceptable for all search engines.

Use Text Found On Anime Character Identifier Images

In some cases your anime image will contain text. Even if the meaning does not immediately lead you to the realization what anime character is this image, it makes sense to perform a regular text search to see if it might give you hints that help you find that anime character.

With manga and anime character identifier images, a common problem is not understanding the related text, leading to a more difficult anime character visual search. In these cases, the Yandex OCR may prove to be useful. An OCR is a helpful tool, that extracts text from an image and translates it into the chosen language.

All you need to do to use the OCR, is upload your image, and the automatic detection will in case of good examples, locate the foreign language phrases and translate them to the chosen language.

Hints gained from the text on the image itself can greatly simplify your quest to find anime character by description.

      Acting Like A Specific Character

    • 1Choose a character. Most people find it easiest to portray a character who is similar to them personality-wise. On the other hand, some people find it easier, or a fun challenge, to portray a character who is the complete opposite.
    • Consider starting out with two characters: one who is similar to you and one who is completely different. If one is too hard to mimic, you can narrow it down to the easier one.
    • 2Study their scenes. If possible, try to read the manga and watch the anime. Take note of how your character reacts to different situations. Notice the range of their emotions and how they act when they are happy, sad, angry, or afraid. Study how the character acts around different characters: family, friends, enemies, strangers. This is a good excuse to watch your favorite anime and read the manga, so have fun with it!
    • If your character is stoic, pay extra attention. These characters will display their emotions subtly, so become a master of picking up the little details.
    • Don’t stop at just the anime or manga. If they appear in a video game, watch cutscenes from the game!
    • 3Read up on your character online. The internet is full of information on anime and manga. Try to find the anime or manga’s official site, and read up on your character. The better you know your character, the better youll be able to imitate them, understanding their personality and what makes them tick.
