How to Draw Lips in the Frontal View Draw a vertical line this will be the middle of the lips. Refine the outline and show the volume in the lower lip with two ovals. Add a shadow for the upper and lower lips with the HB pencil. Add some shading and tone to the whole drawing. Add the lines on the lips.

Drawing The Basic Head Shape

1Draw a circle on your paper with a vertical line running through the middle. Use a pencil so youre able to erase your lines if you make a mistake. Lightly draw the circle in the center of a piece of paper so you have room to add features to it. Find the middle of your circle and lightly sketch a straight line that extends from the top of the circle down your sheet of paper so you know where the middle of the face is.XResearch source

Start by drawing your circle large so you have room to draw the features. Otherwise, your lines may get messy and it could be hard to draw correctly.

Tip: If you have trouble drawing a circle without help, either use a compass or trace something circular.

2Make a guide line for the eyes a third of the way up from the bottom of the circle. Measure about a third of the way up from the bottom of your circle and use your pencil to make a mark. Use a straightedge to draw a horizontal line that extends past the edges of the circle to use as a guide for the characters eyes. Your measurements do not need to be precise. If you dont have a ruler, estimate the distance with the end of your pencil instead.

If youre drawing a female character, place the mark at a distance equal to of the circles diameter since female anime and manga characters tend to have rounder faces.

Drawing Anime Mouth Profile View Anime Mouth From The Side

Now lets take a look at drawing anime mouths from the profile view or the side view. This is why perspective is so important in drawing complex forms from different views, precisely because the mouth looks very different in profile than it does in the three-quarters view or front view.

Notice again how the tongue is represented in the example above. Like a small part of a ball peaking out from under the cheek into our view.

In the example above, notice also how the upper teeth are more visible than the lower when the mouth is open. Note that divisions between the teeth are rarely drawn, if at all. A simple white stripe is in place to represent a row of teeth.

In the example right above, we see more of the lower lip than the upper lip. Specifically, we see the top plane of the lower lip, helping us place the viewpoint from which we are observing the scene. It is clear that the characters head is below our viewpoint. This is so because if it was above us, we would see the bottom plane of a top lip instead.

Notice that almost in all instances, the upper lip hangs over the lower lip, and the lower lip is set back compared to the upper lip.

This means that paying careful attention to the design of the linescreating the opening of the mouth, is going to be important in your ability to define expressions when drawing anime mouths.

Sketch The Initial Eyelids

Now this is to further check the symmetry of your drawing. Using one of your guidelines we will sketch the rough eyelids. We simply blacken the portion of the guidelines that could form the eyelids. As we learned in my previous article about drawing anime eyes, the length of the eyelid lines should slightly exceed the size of our rough eyes.

Continue with the nose and mouth

Finish with the hair, which can be designs to your liking.

As with many of the drawings we are doing, every art starts with rough lines. When drawing faces, we will first sketch a round shape. Again, since this is a rough line, what we will see here is a faint circle. In this way, it is easier to clean when we are done. You will see below this rough round shape I made, which is next to nothing as its so faint.

Draw The Face And Neck

Working on an anime boy drawing is very similar to creating a girl character. Your first steps should be to draw the outline for the face and neck before you can add the fun facial features.

Lightly sketch a freehand circle with a vertical guideline going straight down the middle. Youll want this to extend past the bottom of the circle as far as youd like the chin to be. Then draw a slightly curved line down each side of the circle, sloping in more toward the bottom of the vertical line. Where these meet will be the bottom of the face.

Underneath the face, draw two vertical lines for the neck and a line off each side for the top of the shoulders.

Using guidelines helps to position all of your characters features correctly.
