How To Draw Anime Girl: What Should Be Drawn First

The drawing process of any character in anime is divided into two fundamental parts:

    • The design of the face
    • The design of the body.

Each of these parts requires special attention, since doing them without a specific order would end up causing your character to end disproportionately.

The last mentioned is very important: the proportion of the body with the face.

To avoid that your drawing does not have the appropriate measures we will give you the best advice you can follow when you start to draw.

  • 1Make an outline of the anime girl using stick figures and shapes. First, sketch a circle for the head. Add an angled shape on the lower part of the circle for the chin and jaw. Use a line for the neck down to where the pelvis would be located. Draw an inverted dome shape for the thorax and attach more lines to the limbs. You can use a triangle as a guide for the hands.
  • 2Using the stick figure as a guide, add shape to the drawing. Take note of the proportions and where joints are located. Add a crossed line on the face and thorax to help you determine accurate positioning of body parts later. Since this character will be wearing a swimwear, indicate where the breasts are located using two teardrop shapes. Add a small slanted stroke for the navel.
  • 3Sketch the eyes. Position it with the help of the crossed line as an outline. Add small curved strokes for the eyebrows. Sketch an angle for the nose and two small curved line for the lips to make the character looks like she is smiling.
  • 4Design a hairstyle for your anime character. You can use curved strokes to make the hair look wavy or make the hair limp, as if it were wet. Add a C shape on each side for the ears, peeking a little from the thick hair of your anime girl.
  • 5Darken the outline of the body. Choose a design for the characterâs swimwear. A two-piece is a simple and common choice.
  • 6Refine details. Erase unnecessary lines.
  • 7Color your masterpiece.

    Drawing Anime Girl Hair Step

How to draw cute anime girl easy step-by-step

Although I do not clearly draw the line of the head like in this example every time, I do identify it in my mind when I draw. So here, in these examples, I identified the line in purple for you.

In this front view, the eye line will always be around the center of the vertical line between the chin and the to top the head. So if you measure, the space between the chin and the eyes, is roughly the same as between the eyes and the top of the head.

Here is the under-drawing sketch for this example. I used procreate and an iPad pro to draw the face on a separate layer. The face is used in all examples here since hair is the focus. For the hair, you can see that I am more focused on the overall shape of the hair and less worried about what the lines look like at this stage.

These lines are just a guide for the final line art in the next step.

In this step I drew over the underdrawing with more precision. It could use more refinement and some shading still but much of the indecisiveness of the sketchy lines of the underdrawing is now left in the past.

    Lets look at more examples.
