So if you encounter a problem, for example, you just can´t get the skin color right or the eyes, that you draw look weird. well, then you can either try again and again until it looks good or you can look at how other artists have solved these issues.

Drawing An Embarrassed Anime Tsundere Character

EASIEST WAY TO DRAW ANIME HAIR (DIFFERENT STYLES)

As already mentioned a tsundere character tends to get embarrased when showing their true feelings so this can be a fairly common expression for them.

For an embarrassed tsundere face draw the eyes squinting and looking downwards. Draw a horizontally wide mouth with the bottom ends wider than the top. Also keep in mind that when the mouth is open you should draw the jaw slightly lower down.

Draw the eyebrows lower down.

Developing An Idea For Your Manga Character

At the beginning of creating a new character, there is an idea. An idea or a whole complex of ideas about how the character should look, what pose it should adopt, and what emotions it should radiate.

Either you come up with these essential features of your drawing yourself, or you look for inspiration and templates. Online you will find a lot of motifs and character traits that you can incorporate into your character. You can also draw inspiration from the real world and transfer it to your manga drawing.

As the shy girl characters tend to be loners they may often be daydreaming by themselves.

For the daydreaming expression draw the eye/eyes to one side of the face with both the top and the bottom eyelids slightly raised. You can also draw slightly raised eyebrows

Draw the mouth smiling with the teeth showing and add some blush below the eyes.

Don’t Feel You Have To Be Amazing At Everything

I’m really bad at drawing backgrounds. I know that I’ll get good at this when I start practising, but I haven’t found the drive to do so just yet. That doesn’t mean I cant create illustrations with backgrounds. I just need to be a little more creative about the fact that I can’t paint them! For this illustration I’m using photos I took myself and adjusting them using my photo-editing skills. I crop them, blur, brighten, overpaint and add effects to the point where it’s not easy to tell that these are photos in the background.

Section 22 Drawing Faces

Now that you have your characters head with all of the needed facial features, its probably a good time to add some ears and hair .

Ears are relatively simple unless youre showing them really up close. For this tutorial, theyll be pretty basic. Typically, ears should go from about the top of the eyes to the bottom of the nose. Its usually a good idea to look at a picture of an ear for reference during this part just so you can get a more solid idea of the shape. Obviously the earlobe will be thicker than the tip of the ear, but its entirely up to you when deciding how big they should be or what shape looks best.

Manga hair this is where you can really use your imagination. Short, long, curly, straight, spiked, bangs, tied back. The options are almost endless. Lets keep it simple, though.

Very lightly, draw a rough outline of the hair. Dont worry about parts or points or anything like that yet. Just focus on where you want the hairline to sit and how it should lay around the ears. From here you can start experimenting with length, bangs, and more of the fine details. Unlike realistic hair that is made up of millions of individual strands, manga hair is drawn in several sections or clumps. Once the shape of the hair is how you like it, you can start adding some finer lines throughout the different sections of hair to indicate the way it flows and where shadows will lie.

Changing Up The Proportions To Suit Your Own Style

Here comes the fun part! By changing the proportions, you can create different looks. I will go through a few examples and the changes made to achieve the style.

Cute/ chibi style

The trick here is big heads, big eyes and short chins! Ive made a more detailed post on how to draw the chibi style here.

From the picture above, you can see that a cute chibi style head is a lot shorter and rounder, thus cuter. The eyes are placed a lot lower on the face and there is little space for the nose and mouth. Some of the noses are almost on the same line as the bottom of the eyes. The eyes are also relatively larger.

More matured anime style

For a more matured anime head, the proportions should be more towards a realistic proportion. Ive made a post about it here.

As you can see from the example above, the eyes are relatively smaller and slightly higher.

Above are how to draw the head in anime style in front view! I hope youve learnt something new from this post and are able to draw your very own anime head in proportion.

Brainstorm Your Character And Build A Concept For Their Pose

You character brainstorming can take many forms, including finding references, inspiration, and getting to know about your character. The more you know the character the better you will be able to represent them visually. This is one reason that it can be much easier to get started with drawing fan art than drawing original characters. Those that you represent in fan art already have a story, posture, and style that you can draw from. If you intend to make an original character, you’ll have to make choices about all these character traits.

  • What’s your character’s posture like? Fitness level, and overall style?
  • Do they perfectly fix their hair in the morning or is it slightly messy?
  • What kind of clothes do they wear?
  • What are they normally doing? It’s a good idea to portray the character in the act of doing something that most defines them.

How Long Does It Take To Draw Like An Expert Anime Artist

To be among anime expert artists, you need at least 7-10 years of experience drawing anime. At this point, drawing anime should be so natural you could draw it using little to no references. All anime fundamentals, like expressions, anatomy, and different styles, are things you understand and draw at an outstanding level. Achieving this level of proficiency requires not only drawing practice but also a lot of theory. Here, the way you improve how your drawings look is more related to your overall skills than to your experience drawing anime.

Tip #4: As you already know, all these examples assume a person is drawing every day, and if you want to achieve such a high drawing level, this is the only way you can do it. When you see fantastic anime drawing artists, we tend to focus on how well they draw, but not on the amount of time they practiced to achieve their mastery. Dont feel discouraged if your drawings dont look like you expect them to look every great master had the same drawing level a beginner would have at some point in their lives. Drawing is a skill, not something youre born with and dont have to practice.

Now we know how long it takes to learn to draw anime, but how long does drawing an anime character take?
