How To Draw An Anime Body
This “skeleton”, though so simple, is actually half of the jobonce you have set the proportions the way you want, there’s not much you can do wrong! But a correctly drawn skeleton is just a skeleton, so let’s see how to fill it and create a body.
An anime body can be reduced to simple forms, like spheres and ellipsoids. They introduce another level of proportions, although they’re much looser and easier to keep right. It’s important to remember that although they look like circles and ellipses in your drawing, they’re actually 3D objects, and they are subject to perspective.
Let’s take a look at the body parts separately. The torso still looks very much like an hourglass. You just have to remember about the tilting of the chest and hips towards the waist in the back.
The limbs are a little more complex, but still easily understandable. Just imagine them as the limbs of a drawing dummy! Also, pay attention to the joints.

Glossary Of Anime And Manga
The following is a glossary of terms that are specific to anime and manga. Anime includes animatedseries, films and videos, while manga includes graphic novels, drawings and related artwork.
Note: Japanese words that are used in general are not included on this list, unless a description with a reference for notability can be provided that shows how they relate.
Place & Draw The Ears
Please note that the ears will actually be covered by the hair in later steps so drawing them can be optional. However it can still be a good idea to at least show their outlines as it can help you judge weather or not your character looks right. Drawing the head without the eras can just look odd. Its also a good to know how to position them in case you want to draw a different hairstyle.
For placing the ears draw a horizontal line through the middle of the head and then a line between that and the chin. Draw the ears between these two lines.

Draw The Primary Reflection
Draw the main reflection area from the main light source such as an indoor light bulb, a fire, or the sun. You can erase the area of the pupil and shadow that is overlapped by the reflection.
The shape and color of the reflection can depend on the shape and color of the light source. Usually in anime you can simply leave the reflection white and give it a very generalized shape like a circle or an oval.
Add The Small Details
After you finish drawing the outlines of the hair and placing all of the facial features you can then draw all of the small details.
In this case those will be:
- Inner details of the eyes
- Hair folds
While the eyes in that example are slightly different all of the drawing steps can be applied to the example in this tutorial.
You can see a basic step by step drawing of the details of the eyes above. Also please note that the irises are shaded grey just to make the highlights in the final drawing a bit easier to see. If you are going to be coloring the eyes you may wish to make them a different color.
When done with the eyes you can add a few extra hair folds as shown in the first example.
Finally you can also add a little beauty mark/mole just slightly below one of the eyes . This will again help emphasize that the girl is beautiful as some famous models have these.
You can see a slightly larger version of the face above to make it a little bit easier to see.

If you want to take your drawing to the next level, make the body outlines for your female figures proportionally correct. Instead of freehand drawing the body, create a simple grid of lines and make horizontal lines that are spaced accurately between the shoulder, chest, waist, hips, and knees. Then, make small circles at the joints and draw a line to form the outline of the body. Once you’ve sketched a female body, you can add facial features, draw clothing, or color in the figure.
Starting With The Head

Tip: If you have trouble drawing a circle, use a compass or trace a small round object.

Space The Eyes Horizontally & Draw Their Basic Outlines
When spacing the eyes horizontally you will want to leave about enough room between them that you can fit in another eye.
When actually drawing the eyes make them fairly narrow with relatively thick sets of top eyelashes.
At this stage you can simply outline the basic shape of the eyes without drawing all of the smaller details such as the eyelashes.
The goal is to first correctly place all the facial features.

Draw The Sides Of The Hair
After placing all of the facial features you can move on to drawing the hair.
To emphasize that the character is beautiful we will give her a fairly neat hair style.
When drawing the hair you can think of it as being split into the sides, front and back/top sections. For a more detailed explanation of this as well as examples of other hair styles see:
Begin by drawing the sides part of the hair. In this case these will be two fairly long clumps that begin from around the top of the head and end with a pair of splits slightly below the shoulders.
Make these slightly curved as though they are hugging the head/face and also make them slightly wider towards the bottom.

Manga characters have very unique features unlike any other cartoon.
The eyes and head are enlarged, the facial features are simplified, and the backgrounds are often highly detailed. If youve watched enough anime or read enough manga the style should be ingrained into your memory.

Make a line towards the upper half of the eye that will indicate the darker area partially created by the shadow and the eyelashes reflecting in the eyes.
