shading black hair by kouriiko

When the light is coming from the bottom pretty much the entire face will be lit up with the shadows being cast as follows:

  • Chin a small shaded area at the top of the chin as the chin usually tends to stick out a bit and that bump will cast a tiny shadow
  • Upper Lip the upper lip will cast a very small shadow as it sticks out just a little bit blocking some of the light
  • Nose upper area as the nose will block some of the light going upwards casting a shadow
  • Cheeks as the cheekbones also tend to stick out a little they will create some shadows
  • Forehead will pretty much be entirely dark as it curves away from the bottom light source

Gathered And Bunched Hair

Giving gathered hair volume and shape is a great way to add detail and interest to the hair, as well as making it look more realistic. In the drawing below, one bunch of hair is gathered to a more rounded shape, which would be achieved by the character wearing a tight band or bead which pushes the hair above it up a little. The other bunch of hair is gathered to a flatter shape, which would be created by the character wearing a clip or something similar, which would flatten the hair out. The flatter shape hair can also be used when the character is wearing looser bands or beads as well, and the hair would appear less gathered.

Everything went great, and you got the precise shade of blonde she had, but something just didnt seem right. You still cant put your finger on it. You got the same hue, but it doesnt look quite as nice on you as it did on your friend.

How To Draw Short Anime Hair

[TUTORIAL] How to Color Anime Hair: THE SEQUEL

This type of anime hair is similar to the long. Short hair anime girls are considered to be the queens and all the anime fans are head over heels for them. Therefore, lets do an actual breakdown of how to draw anime hair step by step.

Step 1:

Once again, you have to start with the hairline and head. Its not as important to draw as compared to the long. However, its still better to follow the procedure as it can assist you in drawing some fire hair.

Step 2:

Most steps will be repetitive. However, you will have to draw the same front hair with some small clumps as it is short. But this look will be a little towards the messier side. If you still want to draw the same type of hair, you can follow the same principles as before.

Step 3:

This section of the drawing should be left as the last part. Why do you ask? This is because you wont have to spend minutes erasing the hair and fine-tuning it later on.

The last step is to add the inner curved hair. Moreover, you can add the basic shading and colors as well.

How To Color Hair With Alcohol

Now for her hair! I used Buttercup, Sunflower and Honeycomb for her blond curls. The dark shade is orange, which contrasts strongly with the light and medium shades which are yellow. This gives her hair a golden, high-shine appearance. When it comes to color blends, try to think outside of the box! It doesnt have to be light blue, medium blue, dark blue. A blue shade can turn more purplish as it gets darker. Orange can lighten into yellow.

We will modify the blending technique we have been using for her hair. Using the same concept, well just be changing our pen stroke. Instead of filling the area with solid color, flick your pen along her hair in the direction of the hair strands. Let your strokes trail off, so it gives the effect of multi-stranded hair. You can plot out where you want the white highlights and shine of her hair to be beforehand with a light pencil if youd like.

Add any final highlights with your white pen, fix up any areas that look streaky or not well-blended and you are all done!

And thats how I color in my chibis! I hope this tutorial was helpful for any beginners out there! Artist markers are such a vibrant, beautiful medium, and so versatile! They take some getting used to but once you get the knack of blending you can achieve amazing results in your coloring! Thanks for reading and have fun coloring!

For her eyes and denim, the same procedure. Its all about blending, blending, blending wet on wet. Add as many layers of color till you reach the desired look. For example, I went for a many-layered dark blend on the man part of her jeans, but for the rolled up cuffs, I used the light and medium shades to give a faded, lighter look.

For her jeans, I used Denim Blue, Cobalt Blue and Midnight Blue. For her Eyes, Leaf Green, Emerald and Holly. For her white shirt I used some Cool Grey 01 blended with Denim Blue.

Colors are obviously especially important in anime as they are all symbolic, and that is true when it comes to anime girls hair color too. Adding depth with burgundy reds demonstrates something about the characters nature, so you too could play up your personality with the colors you choose to enhance your hair.

Get The Shading Going On The Anime Style

The next step is to lay down the first shadow color, I more than often use slightly cold shadow color. Pick something like #aea4b3, for example. Shading hair is slightly different from shading other elements. Hair has lots of strands. So the goal is to illustrate those strands and volume.

As we are shading the hair, we do not draw individual strands, but focus on volume and main shapes.

What Does It Mean To Have A Yellow Skin Tone

First things first: What is a skin tone? Is it different from the skins undertone? How can you tell what your skin tone is?

If youre like most people, you can generally tell whether you have deep/dark, medium, or fair skin. Thats the tone your skins surface color.

If you go a level deeper, theres a subtle hue beneath your skin. This hue never changes, even though your skin tone might change depending on various factors like how much sun exposure youre getting. The easiest way to determine your skins undertone is to step outside in natural light and check the color of your veins on the underside of your wrist.

If they look greenish or olive, it means you have a warm skin tone or yellow skin undertone. If they look purplish or blue, it means you have a cool undertone. On the other hand, if you cant quite see your veins or they appear to be the same color as your skin, that likely means you have a neutral undertone.

Another great way to tell is by holding a white piece of paper up to your face and comparing your skin color in contrast to the white paper. If your skin color appears rosy, pink, or bluish-red, thats indicative of a cool skin undertone.

On the other hand, if your skin color appears greenish, it means you have a warm/yellow undertone. If it appears gray, it means your undertone is neutral.

How To Draw Anime Boy Hair

The first few steps are similar to the ones we followed when drawing anime hair for girls.

  • Repeat steps one to three. Although for the bangs, you could choose to draw three.
  • Sketch the rest of the hair. Were going to draw short spiky hair, so you should sketch a few thick distinct spikes that extend away from the head. Start drawing them from one end of the hairline arch to the other.
  • Give the hair more depth by adding some detail inside the outline. Add some lines to break up the hair sections.
  • Remove the guidelines carefully.
  • Finish the drawing by coloring or shading the hair.

Whether the pointed bangs are part of the overall animal look that is often seen in anime or a style in their own right is up for debate. This isnt a style that is often seen in the real world but it would be simple enough to achieve. Often bangs are pointed to one side but could just as easily meet a point between the eyebrows to achieve this niche, cartoon-like look.

    Style And Types Of Hair

First of all, let’s consider the style and the shape of the hair you want to shade. How it is? Curly or straight? Short or long? These questions are important to define the volume and the lightness of the hair. Ask your hairdresser: you’ll know that the lighter the hair is, the more it stays curly and fluffy. If the hair is long and heavy it smoothes, ect.
