Ive only talked about a few of the shoujo anime and manga that I am familiar with, but if youve got a favorite that you would like to recommend that other people check out, then please feel free to let us all know by leaving a comment down below.
As it turns out, back when I was a kid the only anime that I could watch was Dragon Ball Z and Salor Moon, so I actually did watch a lot of shoujo anime when I was younger.
While I dont tend to watch them nowadays, I do have to admit that there are a lot that even a guy can enjoy, so dont be afraid to give a couple shows a chance no matter who you are.

A partner wont condemn or deny their partner the ability to do what they want.

This is a very, very generalization of the culture and doesnt depict individuals in any way. If a woman or man does catch their partner in the act or is just unhappy with the lack of attention, they can and will break up with a person or asks for a divorce usually quietly and without drawing attention to it.
While polyamory agreements like in western societies arent really discussed , the culture dictates one to turn a blind eye. This gets way more complicated in the culture, but for simplicity, showing jealousy just isnt cool. So a man showing up with his wife at a party may run into other men or women openly flirting with his wife, and he may not say anything about it or he may even encourage it in the very polite Japanese way.

If the girls in The World God Only Knows remember everything theyve gone through, Keima would have the biggest harem ever! However, that’s not the case. This anime is about Keima, the number of girls he’s conquered , and how they forget everything after he conquers them.
If its anything that concerns games , nothing cant be conquered by Katsuragi Keima. That’s all he’s prided himself on his whole lifeplaying games. Then, one day, a demon girl by the name of Elucia seeks him out in order to get him to help her capture escaped souls that now reside in the void of girls hearts. So, much like he does with his dating games, Keima only has to make the girls fall in love with him in order to manifest the souls and capture them in the processall in real life!

Theres a story, a personality, some depth, progression and even relatability to them.
They feel like people and not just an object or a cliche with lazy writing and a lazy plot filled with fan service.
Onodera is a good example.
She likes the protagonist and has for a long time. Theyve known each other for a good while.
She doesnt just come out of nowhere and start falling in love.
Same is true for Chitoge . Her familys at war with the main character, and thats where she falls into the picture.
Saekano is like that as well.
Yes there are moments when the harem cliches take center stage. But for the most part its a harem that goes beyond its cliches and gives you more.
It avoids overloading you with the usual BS just because it sells.
Each female main character has their own identity, and none are the same. Its not tiddies every 5 seconds either, even though its an Ecchi and thats a solid element.
And even though the MALE protagonist is designed in atypical way-ish, he ends up being more than that himself.
I wont sit here and act like all harem is bad. Ive barely watched 50 or 100 .
But some of the more popular and recommended ones can have that kind of reputation, so it makes sense why so many think harem anime
Just look at the cheap tactics and all the nonsense the industry puts out when it comes to harem. Its hard not to see it as one of the worst anime
