Step 1: Draw a portrait in your mind of what you will draw. Here we are drawing a girl anime, for this, we need to draw the head, pelvic portion, broad shoulder with some static pose.

Sketching The Female Body

1Draw a head at the top of your paper. Place a circle near the top center of the page so theres enough room to add hair later on. Put the point of the chin slightly outside the bottom edge of the circle since the jaw will come lower down. We are also going to use tubes when drawing the legs. Extend them from the bottom of the hourglass shape. The knees are tricky because you have to place them one and a half heads below the torso. Use small circles to indicate the knees.

Finish drawing the lower part of the leg by extending the tubes until theyre of the same length as the top half. Add small circles for the ankle joints and attach trapezoid shapes for the feet.

Remove all the guidelines carefully. Try not to erase the basic shape of your characters body.

Sketching The Body Outline

1Add a horizontal line halfway below the bottom line to mark the feet. Since female body figures are about 7 1/2 heads high, make another horizontal line a 1/2 head distance below the lowest line on your paper. This line indicates where the female’s feet are.

Now you can go back and mark where key parts of the body fall in relation to one another. For example, you’ll make a waistline, hipline, and line for the knees.

2Draw 2 horizontal lines just below the chin to mark the shoulders and the chest. The line for the shoulders should be about 1/3 of a head below the chin, and the chest line will be where the second original gridline you drew was. Shade & Finish The Drawing

For some very basic shading you can add shadows in the most common places. In this case they will be as follows:

• Tiny shadows around the eyelids
• Small shadows below the eyelashes
• Very tiny shadow to one side of the nose
• Fully shaded ears
• Large shadow on the neck in the shape o the chin
• Fully shaded inner part of the hair between the head/neck and the side hair

As mentioned earlier you can also add some hair highlights as sort of white zigzag lines across the hair. As suggested earlier you can simply leave this area white and then color around it. Alternatively you can use a white correction pen to add them in over top or do it digitally.

Space The Eyes Horizontally & Draw Their Basic Outlines

When spacing the eyes horizontally you will want to leave about enough room between them that you can fit in another eye.

When actually drawing the eyes make them fairly narrow with relatively thick sets of top eyelashes.

At this stage you can simply outline the basic shape of the eyes without drawing all of the smaller details such as the eyelashes.

The goal is to first correctly place all the facial features.
