How To Draw Anime Cat Girl Ears Step By Step
This quick tutorial explains how to draw an anime cat girl with animal ears. It can also be applied to drawing other types of anime style animal ear characters.
If you are going to follow the tutorial along using pencil and paper be sure to draw light lines for initial steps as you will need to do some erasing later.
Toes And Final Editing
After drawing in the toes, you’re technically done with drawing your cute, little kitty cat cartoon. But, since I take a photo and put mine up online, I went back over it with a heavier ink pen so it reproduces better.
Then I shot a pic with my cell phone and used the BeFunky app to crop it and adjust brightness and contrast. Lastly, I finished up with the Pinhole filter, followed by the Orton filter, and that’s it! Not bad for a iPhone app!
You can color it in if you want too. Have fun!
I should mention here that learning to draw ANYTHING takes practicelots of practice. I’ve been doing this since I was a kid . I’ve drawn thousands of eyeballs and noses and mouths and eyebrows and whatever else over the years.
The best tip I can give you is this: ALWAYS DRAW IT AGAIN!
Even after all these years, the first time I draw something new, it’s crap. I’ve been drawing this same cat in this same pose maybe close to 100 times. Seriously. There’s all kinds of variations to play around with, and even if you simply try to draw it exactly the same way, it’ll look better.
So draw it again.
Thanks for hanging out with me! I hope you learn to enjoy drawing this kitty as much as I do.

Draw The Front Paws And The Top Of The Tail
Continuing with this guide on how to draw a cartoon cat, we will now be drawing the paws and some of the tail for the cat.
The paws should be quite simple, as all you need to do is draw some small curved lines connecting to one another at the bases of the front legs.
Then, draw another rounded, bumpy line inside the thigh outline for the bent back leg, and then add another line beneath that for the top of the tail.
Once you have drawn these latest details so that they look as they do in our reference image, we can move on to step 4!

How To Draw A Cat Made From Basic Shapes And Lines
Before learning how to draw a cat: some fun facts before starting sketching!
- Killing a cat in ancient Egypt could be punished by death!
- Usually, the heart of a cat will beat twice as fast as the one of a human.
- In a lifetime, a cat will spend 65% of the time for sleeping.
Welcome to this tutorial on how to draw a cartoon cat. These animals are very familiar to everyone! They have a very long and thin tail , small ears , a little pink nose and four very agile legs . Surprisingly, they can come in a great variety of colors: black, white, brown, orange and even blue! Cats are divided into 36 different species and you can find many more subspecies.
Since the cat is a feline, these little creatures are moving very much like a lion or a tiger would. The head is made of a circle. The ears are made with triangles and the body with a rectangle. The back legs are very strong and the front ones are a little smaller. The tail is made with small rectangles. The eyes and the nose are made with small circles.
Start your artwork by sketching a rectangle. Try to make it a little more narrower on top. Draw a line in the middle of your shape. Then, draw the eyes on top of your line. Draw the ears inside your rectangle.
Continue your drawing by adding the legs. The ones on the front should be smaller. Add details like the eyes, the mouth and the whiskers. Here you go! One easy cat drawn in only a couple of minutes!
Anime Kitten Head & Body Proportions
Its harder to have clear proportions for drawing anime animals but in general anime animals tend to have bigger heads in relations to their bodies same as human anime characters.
Before you begin drawing the cat make a vertical line through the middle of what will later be the cats body. Draw the line a slightly to one side of your drawing area to leave room for the tail in in the next step.
The vertical line can help you make sure that both halves of the body are of roughly even width.
Draw the shape of the head close to an oval but wider towards the bottom.
Draw the body similar in shape to a drop of water but with a flattened bottom.
Draw The The Cat Ears
To be able to better understand how to place the cat ears on the head we will draw the main shape of the ears before drawing the hair.
Keep in mind that the hair has some volume and will cover the bottom part of the ears. You will want to draw the ears slightly longer than what you want to be visible in the final drawing.
The overall shape of each ear should be somewhat similar to a triangle.
The far side of the ears will be hidden around the curve of the head.
On the end of the ears you can add some little fur clumps. Certain breeds of cats tend to have fur sticking out like that on the tips of their ears.
Materials For A Cartoon Cat Drawing
- Eraser. Large ones you can hold in your hand do a much better job than just the pencil tips.
- BlackSharpie Marker. These fine point permanent marker pens make nice black outlines, have a good tip for coloring, and never bleed when they get wet. Use them with good ventilation and add extra paper underneath to protect your tables.
- Prang Crayons. These are a bit softer than other crayons so they sometimes look like oil pastels. They also have a some nice brown shades that Crayola does not have unless you buy their larger boxes.
- Crayola Crayons. The reliable brand that always works well. The 24 pack has some of my favorite golden orange and yellow colors that seem a bit richer and warmer than the ones Prang has.

The first step is to draw the shape of the head, so we start drawing the round shape, which will be the head in our sketch.
Our cat, as you can see, is very cheerful, so you need to depict his big joyful eyes, and first, this is done by drawing two circles, respectively, these are the shapes of the eyes. After that, following the example from step, draw the cats mouth, which also expresses the joyful emotions of the cat.
Next Finish Off The Body Outlines
This fourth part of your cartoon cat drawing will have you finishing off the outlines before we add the final details in the next step of the guide.
First, draw some small, pointy shapes near the top of the face for some expressive eyebrows.
Then, we will finish drawing the tail outline for the cat. This will be drawn with the same bumpy, slightly jagged line weve been using for other areas of the cat so far.

How to Draw a Cartoon Cat
To do this, draw an oval-like shape, as shown in the picture.
At this stage, use curved lines.
To draw the paws of the cat, add three paws below the body of the cat.
To draw the ears of the cat, use pointed shapes that look like triangles.
You can draw this detail using curved lines.
Draw two details in the central part of the head of the cartoon cat, as shown in the picture.

Cat girls or Nekomimi in Japanese XResearch source make an excellent subject for drawing. They’re cute, they’re feline and human at once and they’re a fun drawing project.
Pupils Nose And Whiskers
Add in those details on the face. A simple upside down triangle works great for the nose, and a couple little slashes for whiskers.
Now, as we mentioned above, there are SO many ways to do the eyes. One fun way to do them is to make it look as though there is a block inside the head and you are seeing a part of it through the two eye sockets. The top edge of the pupils appears to connect, so it gives the illusion of a single shape tucked away in there.
As a variation, you can make it more of a ball shape instead of a block.

Apply Color & Shading
To color and shade your drawing start by coloring in the largest areas with the base color. Leave any highlights/reflections blank if coloring on paper or apply them at the end of the coloring process if drawing digitally. Darken the shaded areas after you finish the basic color fill.

Cartoon Black Cat Drawing
The best part of learning how to draw a black cat is having fun with all the exaggerated shapes. Professional cartoon artists may make it look easy, but it takes time to learn how to make the most impact with just a few lines.
One example of this is the use of oversized heads. They just plain look funny, and also conveniently leave room for expressive eyes. And oversized eyes that are flat on top are a very simple way to make anyone, person or animal, look unhappy.
Looking for more of a challenge? Why not set off the background of your cat drawing with some very Halloween-y gradated color? This one was done with a yellow orange crayon on top, and a red orange crayon of the bottom. It takes a bit of overlapping and going back and forth to get that smooth coloring transition, but the end result is well worth it!
Draw The Hair & Ear Fluff
As mentioned earlier the bottom part of the ears will be covered by the hair.
For this particular hairstyle we will draw the hair in fairly large clumps. It will somewhat follow the shape of the top of the head and will than hang down curving in slightly different directions towards the ends.
Add some fur to the inside of the ears drawn it in clumps similar to the hair.

How To Draw A Sleeping Anime Cat
Start with a circle for the guideline of the cats head. Indicate where the cat will be facing by drawing a vertical and horizontal line. The horizontal line is for your cats eye line. The vertical line is to indicate where the middle of the face would be.
Draw an almost oval shape to create the body and tail of the cat.
Draw the back leg of the cat. Draw a circular curve for the thigh then add in the lower portion of the leg by continuing with a long oval shape.
Add two overlapping oval shapes for the two front paws
Finish the cats body by adding clumps of fur to the back and tail portion.
Draw the ears on top of the head guideline. Position the ears in a relaxed state by pointing them downward. Connect the ears with a curve line and add fur clumps to the top of the head if desired.
Add fur to the cheeks of the cat and finish up its face shape.
Finish the drawing and add in shade where necessary.
How To Draw An Angry Anime Cat
Create a circle for the cats head. Draw a vertical line within the circle to indicate the middle of the cats face. Draw a horizontal line within the circle for the eye line guide.
To draw the back line of the cat, create an arch. At the end of the arc add in the cats tail. To create an angry feel, point the tail up.
Draw the back leg of the cat. Draw a circular curve for the thigh then add in the lower portion of the leg and round the paw.
Create another arc parallel to the back arc you drew. This will serve as the cats belly line.
Add in the two front paws right next to each other. Draw in the other back leg by mirroring the first leg you drew.
Finish the cats body by adding fur clumps around the back and tail part of the cat. Make sure to point the clumps up and out. Vary the size of the fur clumps to create a more natural look. Dont forget to add a line to the middle of each paw.
Point the ears towards the cats back to make an angry expression.
Add extra fur to the cheeks of the cat to change up its face shape.
Create the cats facial features by following the facial guidelines. Add the nose below the intersection of the horizontal and vertical guide. Add a little upside-down V shape just below the nose, this will serve as the cats mouth.
Remove any guidelines that were left and finish the drawing by adding shadows and shades where necessary.
