Drawing An Intellectual Male Anime Character

The intellectual character type in anime and manga does not necessarily mean a shy or weak male character. On the contrary quite often these characters can be both physically though and intelligent. Often these tend to be the school council president or some type of leader.

For the intellectuals normal look draw the eyebrows in their natural state with the eyes slightly narrower than the default character example at the start of the tutorial. Make the irises slightly smaller as well. Smaller/narrower eyes will both make the character look more serious and hint that they may have impaired vision.

Draw the mouth in a light upside down curve to again make the character look more serious.

Drawing An Anime Head And Face

1Draw an oval and divide it into 4 sections. This will be the basic outline of your anime characters head. The proportions dont have to be exact, but make the oval narrower at the bottom since that will be the chin. Once youve drawn the oval, draw a horizontal line through the center of it. Draw the mouth similar to an 8 flipped on its side with the teeth showing and the bottom lip in an upside down curve.

How To Draw In Love Anime Expression

Again, start by drawing a circle and a small triangle and then connecting both shapes.

You can also draw a line in the middle and another one close to the bottom of the circle to help you with proportions.

Now draw the eyebrows shapes and two circles for the eyes and another small circle for the mouth.

You can also add lines on the top and bottom of each of those shapes.

Following the sketch, start the Lineart. Remember to add details .

For the delinquents normal look draw the eyebrows in their natural position. Draw the eyes with the bottom eyelids curving much further down then normal and draw the pupils much smaller then normal. There should be a good amount of space between the irises and the bottom eyelids. You can also give a hint of bags under the eyes with a pair of small curved lines.

Finally draw the mouth in a fairly sharp upside down curve and draw the bottom lip in a similar manner.

This combination of facial feature adjustments will give the delinquent an unfriend, slightly crazy and dumb look.

Dividing The Face Into Three Parts

The next step requires a know-how of the universal proportion of the face. All adult faces regardless of individual appearances share the same proportion the distance between the hair-root line and the bottom edge of the chin can be divided in three equal parts:

From the hair-root line to the eyebrow line

From the eyebrow line to the base of the nose

From the base of the nose to the bottom of the chin.

Observe on the model where the hair-root line is intended by nature and mark this line on the drawing. Divide the distance from that line to the bottom of the head into three equal parts by eye or using a pencil as a measuring stick. Do it as accurate as you can precise location of these three parts will help you in placing facial features correctly.

If the models head is on the same level as yours, you would see those three lines horizontal. When the model is located higher than a viewer, lines will be curved upward. The opposite is also true lines will be curved downward when a models head is located lower. The curvature depends on the view angle.

A content smile is something that a friendly character is likely to have, often after they help someone.

Drawing An Angry Antagonist/villain Anime Male Character

This is an expression the villain tends to make when they are ticked off/angry/upset.

For an angry look draw the eyebrows closer together and very low down on the face . Give a hint of wrinkles between the eyebrows to further indicate they are being squeezed together. Draw the eyes squinted and draw the irises of the eyes smaller then normal with tiny pupils and no reflections.

Examples 5 Short Bushy Eyebrows

You can draw these types of eyebrows with a shape similar to a triangle with rounded corners.

When drawing these types of eyebrows in different positions you can draw them with almost the same overall shape or just slightly warp it to match the expression.

For lowered eyebrows draw them pointing more inwards towards the face and closer together.

When the eyebrows are raised like in the third drawing above you can basically just flip their shape upside down.

For raised eyebrows like in the fourth example draw them higher up on the head without any tilts.

1Draw a stick-figure outline of your characters body. Use straight lines for the arms, torso, and legs. Make the arms and torso similar in length, and make the legs about 1/3 longer. To get the proportions right, make your stick-figure outline about 7 times as tall as your characters head.
