Minene Uryuu Wears An Eyepatch Over The Eye That She Lost In A Tournament
Like many of the characters in Future Diary, Minene is a little unstable. Shes intimidating, gets over-excited about her acts of terrorism, and she’s more than willing to kill anyone who gets in her way. She even has the Escape Diary, which shows her how to escape dangerous situations.

Minene originally didnt wear an eyepatch, but when she lost her eye during the Survival Game, a Battle Royale tournament to choose the God of Time and Space, she began wearing one, even though she does have a glass eye in place of the eye she lost.
Degrees Of Realism And Stylization
In anime and manga, eyes are drawn in various degrees of stylization. Human anatomy in anime is stylized often to the point of being unrealistic, yet still very recognizable as the anime counterpart of the real world person the artwork is describing.
This is an important point. This means that if we are to draw anime, we must observe what we see in the world and put it through a stylizer machine before we output it on canvas as a more anime version of what we saw. Fortunately, we all have a stylizer machine called the brain!
In anime, there is a spectrum of on one end, very large anime looking eyes, and some on the other end, that are pretty realistic with some stylization flare. I tend to like something in the middle, although a lot depends on the artwork itself.
You can use this guide to draw eyes and stylize to your own comfort. Check out the image right below, anime eyes drawn on the left are more stylized and the ones toward the right are more realistic.
In anime, as we move away from realism, the shape of the eye is larger and more round, and the iris itself is drawn larger as well. More realistic anime eye drawings closer follow real human anatomy, with eye shape less rounded, although still styled.

As she hasnt moved beyond this make-believe behavior, Rikka is convinced that she is a sorceress. She wears an eyepatch over her right eye that keeps her Tyrants Eye, a powerful ability that is able to destroy anyone who looks at her, in check. She even wears a colored contact lens to further “protect” the people around her.

Anime Eye Patch Wearing Character No : Kaneki Ken
Okay, Tokyo Ghoul was an obvious choice but a necessary one.
The way the eye patch and mask are used to show Kanekis dual nature is actually quite clever and a critical plot device throughout the story. Basically, he keeps his ghoul eye covered when he is human and his human eye covered when hes a ghoul and slowly we see the divide between these two existences disappear.
When it isnt just a stylish choice but a character necessity, the eye patch really takes on a life of its own.

After the last two serious entries, I really wanted to include Rikka from Love, Chuunibyou and Other Delusions.
Rikka is a fantastic character who suffers from 8th Grade Syndrome and so believes that she has super powers which she cleverly conceals by wearing an eye patch, among other things. She gets some very cool moments when she reveals her eye and at first it appears magical but then its revealed she is wearing a coloured contact in the eye under the eye patch.
While her eye patch is definitely an affectation, Rikka is a fantastic character and the eye patch is almost inseparable from her as a character so I felt she deserved a spot on the list. Its such a fundamental part of her character that when she gives up her delusions she removes the eye patch and essentially becomes a different person. However, that transformation is short lived.

How It All Began
Our company began with the needs of the young boy in the image on this page, our sonWhen he was diagnosed with Amblyopia we learned that he would have to wear corrective glasses and an eye patch for several hours per day.As his parents, we spent a great deal of time and money in our search for an eye patch that wouldnt irritate his skin and yet stayed in place.
We ended up with a drawer full of adhesive patches which irritated his skin, tore out his eyebrows when removed, and had to be replaced every time he shed a tear or got an eyelash in his eye. We also had pirate style patches that topped off every time moved his head, foam eye covers that he could peak out of, and plastic patches that didnt fit under his glasses. Understandably, he was frustrated with all of these and was forever taking them off.
We soon realized that patching can become quite unpleasant to say the least.
We ultimately became so frustrated with what was available on the market, that we set out to design a practical and comfortable eye patch that our son would actually wear. We took the information we learned from what didnt work to create a design which would provide comfort without compromising effectiveness in our eye patches. This pattern evolved into what we appropriately named:
