Bad: Rui Is The The Defenition Of Toxic Familial Relationships

Demon Slayer Is A GOOD Anime

Rui is one of Muzan’s powerful Twelve Kizuki, demons with great potential. He was a spider demon, and thanks to his past trauma derived from when his parents tried to kill him for becoming a demon, he is obsessed with creating a family. So, he attempts to make a family of spider demons, but his family is toxic and twisted, many of the members being forced to be part of it. Eventually, Rui dies, but it was not before terrorizing both his “found family” and Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke.

Japanese Anime Fans Are Baffled By Demon Slayer Season 2’s English Title

The women who worked in a yuukako were known as yuujo.

The English title for Demon Slayers second season is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc. The Japanese word used for the arc is yuukaku , and that word has a much more pointed meaning than entertainment district.

Yuukaku is translated as a red-light district, pleasure quarter or even brothel. Yoshiwara is the most famous center for prostitution in Japanand its also the setting for the second season, leaving little doubt about the words meaning. Entertainment District, however, is defined as a type of arts district with a high concentration of movie theaters, theatres or other entertainment venues. These are clearly different spaces, and words with different meanings.

Popular Japanese blog Hachima Kikou recently called the English title egregious and no good. The sites commenters chimed in, seeming to be slightly baffled by the title.

A birds eye view of Japans most famous yuukaku, Yoshiwara.

For the animes English language release, distributors seem like they wanted to avoid this controversy altogether. The translation might not be correct, but, I guess, at least it wont upset parents. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc is airing on Funimation and Crunchyroll.

What Is Demon Slayer The Anime All About

A boy, Tanjiro Kamado, and his younger sister, Nezuko, travel around the rapidly modernizing, early 1900s Taisho-era Japan as part of the clandestine Demon Slayer Corps after his whole family is killed one night, save for Nezuko, who turns into a half-demon. Aside from demon slaying, Tanjiro’s ultimate goal is twofold: turn Nezuko back into a human and seek vengeance against Muzan Kibutsuji, a super-evil demon, passing in society as a human who looks like the early 1900s-era version of Jack White, and who can create new progeny by injecting people with his very potent demon blood.

As with all the great shnen anime, it’s not about the destination, but the friends you make along the way, and Tanjiro, always the peacemaker, befriends many. But his eventual core crew becomes fellow low-level demon slayers Zenitsu Agatsuma, a girl-obsessed ball of anxiety who loathes all of the bloodshed of their trade, and Inosuke Hashibira, a loud and feral boar head-wearing, fighting-obsessed foil. Together, they traipse around Japan, negging each other and cutting the heads off of demons, while managing the politics of the Hashira, the nine most-powerful swordspeople of their organization.

Music And Sound Design

The game borrows heavily from the anime, and thats a good thing. Voice acting, sound cues, music, and even the sound effects for some of the animes gags are used in the game as well. On top of all of these, The Hinokami Chronicles makes use of dual surround sound audio, which adds additional depth to the sound design when youre playing with compliant hardware. Playing the game with a headset helped us appreciate this feature very much, especially during exploration. Sounds that populate the world give the otherwise empty environments a hearty feel.

The Art And Animation

Why is Demon Slayer so insanely popular?

Quite frankly, this one could double up for the manga as well as the anime. While the manga is beautifully illustrated, the art and animation quality of the Demon Slayer anime is truly something to behold. The way everything is drawn and animated in the series is extremely eye-catching and flows incredibly well.

While Demon Slayer in both manga and anime overall have a variety of strengths going for it, the strongest aspect present in the anime is definitely in its animation. Every single fight scene, for instance, is an absolute visual spectacle.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Movie Review: A Good Film But Watch The Anime Series First

The Flame Hashira is undoubtedly the star of the movie.

For anyone that follows Weekly Shnen Jump, youll know that within the pages of that manga periodical many popular and culturally influential titles have been birthed. One of the more recent of these is Demon Slayer and its latest movie is rather good indeed.

The manga, penned by Koyoharu Gotouge, started back in 2016 and finished last year. It was wildly popular and birthed an anime adaptation, which also saw similarly massive success.

Set during the Taish period, Demon Slayer deals with the secret war between demons and humans. Thrust into this war are Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko, the latter who was also transformed into a demon, though manages to retain at least some of her humanity.

Tanjiro and Nezuko fight in the Demon Slayer Corps, alongside their friends Zenitsu and Inosuke. Demons are also vicious beings that devour human flesh en masse and are incredibly difficult to kill.

Enmu is one of the main demon antagonists in the movie.

Demon Slayer Review: Netflix Anime Reinvents Classic Action Tropes

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba uses classical action archetypes to craft an addictive story about the bonds of family and good versus evil.

This Demon Slayer review contains no spoilers.

There are a lot of anime about the slaying of demons. Almost too many, in fact. If someone was supposed to make an anime, but then forgot and had to quickly rush something together at the last minute, theyd make it about demon slaying. At this point its a little exhausting whenever a new demon-slaying anime gets announced, but its for this very reason that the series that work are especially effective.

Koyoharu Gotouges Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba doesnt just touch on familiar storylines and ideas, even its title is bland and vague. However, Demon Slayer turns out to be one of the most enjoyable new anime to come out in the past few years and its a very exciting addition to Netflixs growing anime library.

Demon Slayer begins in an explosive manner that turns the relatively timid Tanjiro Kamado into a vengeful warrior after he experiences the worst kind of trial by fire. Demons attack Tanjiros family and turn his sister, Nezuko, into one of their kind. The newly orphaned Tanjiro meets a Demon Slayer and becomes committed to avenging his familys death, taking down any evil creatures that he encounters, and cure his sister of her unfortunate fate.

It is one of those animes that was released initially for a smaller audience, however towards the end of its run, Demon Slayer had all the hype in the world.

Not So Great Secondary/support Characters

Zenitsu is the one character who could have been thrown out the plot and it wouldnt have mattered.

Hes annoying, irritating, spends most of his time crying or trying to give you cringe comedy thats not even funny. Mostly because its dragged out to the point of ridiculous.

The other guy has more relevance. And does have his good points.

But I cant say these secondary characters are anything special, or something you could called GREAT.

Shinobu on the other hand is a good character but shes not part of the main squad and isnt supposed to be.

For all the scenes Shinobu is involved in, she plays a relevant role and id say shes memorable.

Kanao is likable but she plays an even smaller role than Shinobu so theres not much to say about her.

She does have a memorable story though, which relates to Shinobu.

Giyu Tomioka is OK, but Kakashi from Naruto

I dont think Demon Slayer has a problem with too much characters. Its more like outside of Tanjiro and Nezuko, theres not much to get excited about.

Especially given the hype.

In the end Kimetsu No Yaiba is your average Shounen with a few bells and whistles that make it a little better.

Tanjiro feels too perfect as a protagonist. Hes like Deku but without the flaws.

The Shounen cliches are clear in Demon Slayer , more so in episode 19. And the build up of the anime

The most Id give the anime is 7/10. But its FAR from a masterpiece. Especially when comparing it to similar anime

When Is Demon Slayer Season 2 Coming Out

Soon! A second season was confirmed in February to air sometime in 2021, along with a short trailer previewing the Entertainment District Arc around Yoshiwara, a historical red-light district in Tokyo:

The premiere date is TBD, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see this out in the summer or fall anime season. Before then: We’ve got a Demon Slayer movie to watch!

Read The Manga: Incredible Art

The artwork on Demon Slayer is a class in itself. The gorgeous artwork of Kimestsu no Yaiba is a spectacle and a reason enough to go for a reading of the manga.

Due credit goes to Koyoharu Gotuge to create some of the best artwork known to date. And when the artwork is incredible so, it makes more sense to read the original, the book is always better.

The Twelve Upper Moon Strategy

Demon Slayer Slayed at Crunchyroll

Like many other anime, Muzan Kibutsuji has a handful of elite warriors which the protagonists are destined to face throughout the span of the series. They are known as the Twelve Demon Moons, Rui being the first among them to debut in the anime.

RELATED: Demon Slayer: The 10 Best Dance Of The Fire God Attacks, Ranked

One of the main imperatives of the Moons is to crush the Demon Slayer Corps and eliminate the threat they pose to their master. It does not make sense why they would spread themselves scarce, making defeating the Hashira more difficult than it should be.

Most Fight Scenes Are Only Decent For Such A Hyped Anime

My favorite fight scene in Demon Slayer is the football fight between Nezuko and that demon.

The constant back and forth of kicking the ball with sheer force was powerful . You could feel the impact of each kick and the back and forth felt pretty good.

The iconic scene was OK, but It felt more like the anime wanted to look as flashy as possible as opposed to being as good as it could have.

This goes back to the animation quality point I made earlier. This anime cares more about being fancy than being solid.

This shows up time and time again during fights between characters.

Am I saying animation quality isnt part of making anime fights LOOK good? Obviously not.

Akame Ga Kill strike the right balance when it comes to this.

Kimetsu No Yaiba on the other hand put a little too much focus on visuals at the expense of action quality, to some degree.

And when you factor in the insane HYPE for Demon Slayer , it makes it feel that much more disappointing than it should.

That comes down to having your expectations lowered since you have high expectations going into it.

Necessary: The Film Didn’t Animate The Last Few Chapters Of The Mugen Train Arc

The most important character throughout the Mugen Train arc is not Tanjiro, Nezuko, or even Inosuke. Rengoku deserves this designation for proving what it means to be a true pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps despite his harsh upbringing.

Throughout this arc, Rengoku guides Tanjiro in the art of swordsmanship, breathing styles, and even what it means to be a member of the Hashira. At the end of the manga arc, Tanjiro inherits Rengoku’s handguard to symbolize the passing of his flaming spirit. This moment was left out of the Demon Slayer movie and is reason enough to reanimate the entire Mugen Train arc.

Tanjirou Is Really Good

One of my favorite things about this show is how compassionate Tanjirou is. Hes young and has lost so much already. Thats nothing new in anime but Tanjirous attitude towards this loss is. Unlike most protagonist who would seek revenge off the bat, Tanjirous main concern is helping his sister. Yes, killing demons is bound to happen along the way but his goal isnt to punish any old demon for his hardships.

This is best illustrated in how he treats his enemies. Because his life is on the line, he fights with all he can. When he wins, its always bittersweet because Tanjirou sees the humanity in these demons. He doesnt excuse their horrible actions but he does feel sympathy for what lead them on a life of destruction. He even goes against other demon slayers to protect demons from further humiliation after death. These actions make sense for him because he sees the good and complexity in his demon sister and that means that these traits can exist in other demons as well.

Bad: Shinobu Is An Amazing But Ruthless Slayer

If Madara was in Demon Slayer

Shinobu Kocho is an amazing fighter. She is the insect hashira and moves about with grace. However, her fighting tactic is cruel, using poison to defeat her enemies. On top of that, she hates demons.

Even though Shinobu hates demons for their bloodthirst and kills any demon who has killed a human, she does so in a cruel way. When fighting the spider demons, she gives them false hope that they can live only to take it away and kill them in painful ways.

Necessary: The Mugen Train Arc Gives Nezuko The Chance To Show Off

Nezuko really showed out for the Natagumo Mountain arc by revealing her explosive blood demon art. Unfortunately, the Rehabilitation Training arc that finished off Season 1 of the anime sidelined Nezuko to show Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke training at the butterfly mansion.

For those that haven’t seen the Mugen Train film or read the Demon Slayer manga, Nezuko is more of a sleeper than a fighter. The Mugen Train arc gives Nezuko the chance to shine alongside her brother. Both the movie and manga downplay Nezuko’s impact during the Mugen Train arc so hopefully, the new anime adaptation will shine a little light on everyone’s favorite demon.

Genshin Impact Still Refuses To Increase Anniversary Rewards Despite Fan Outcry

Not least because demons are far stronger than any human but also because many can regenerate their injuries incredibly quickly. To counter this, demon slayers master different types of breathing styles coupled with the use of special swords. Certain demon slayers become Hashira, which are the top-level soldiers in the corps and are specialised in certain styles of breathing.

In short, Demon Slayer is a dense and complex manga and the anime is subsequently rather involved as well. With the first season of the anime behind us, this latest movie is there to bridge the gap and lead us all into the second season.

However, this movie was also unbelievably popular at the Japanese box office, breaking all manner of records during its theatrical run. Even more impressive, was that this all happened during the effects of COVID-19. So its safe to say that Demon Slayer: Mugen Train found its very eager audience in Japan.

In all honesty, it is a good movie though but much of it will be a bit overwhelming if you have not seen the anime series.

Tanjiro is a very likable character.

Starting with our main characters boarding a mysterious train, they meet the Flame Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro Rengoku. He explains that many people have recently disappeared on this train and that they think a demon is responsible.

Turns out, hes right. As the demon Enmu puts everyone on the train to sleep, including the demon slayers, with a plan to devour them later.
