Crunchyroll: Better Queue Design
This one is subjective, but fans of both have come to a quite solid consensus that Crunchyroll’s queue design is better than Funimation’s. While both Crunchyroll and Funimation have a queue system as well as an app, Crunchyroll has the upper hand.
You can organize each anime you watch by most recent or any order you want, and they tell you when each episode of an anime has been released. Everything is automatically organized by the most popular. You can also organize anime by each season and any genre you like.
Is Netflix Good For Anime
The good news is: Netflix has some of the best anime series of all time currently streaming on its service. The bad news is: they also have a lot of really bad TV shows to sort through. Luckily, weve done the hard work of sorting through the platform and finding the hidden gems youll want to watch.
What Are The Top Anime Shows On Funimation

Crunchyroll: A More Diverse Catalogue
Crunchyroll used to be only in the anime business before they made their tagline, “The Official Source of Anime and Drama.” That’s right, Crunchyroll doesn’t only have anime, they also have live-action Japanese drama you can watch. If you ever wanted to watch live-action Death Note as well as some classic J-Drama, Crucnrhyoll is your pick.
While Funimation may have a couple of live-action drama within their catalog, Crunchyroll has more of an abundance. If you’re a fan of anime as well as live-action shows, then Crunchyroll wins this round.
Navigating The Crunchyroll Ui
Navigating Crunchyroll can be a mixed bag, depending on where you use it. The app is fantastic. Just log in and youre presented with a wealth of content, which is all easy to scroll through. Youve got options for different genres, and every dubbed series has clear indicators.
Adding to your Watchlist is easy in all instances, and just takes a couple of button presses wherever you’re using it. It’s easy to filter mature content in or out, too.
On PC is where Crunchyroll feels a little cluttered. Its hard to navigate to find exactly what youre looking for from time to time, and it can occasionally feel like youre going round in circles.
Streaming is fast and responsive on all devices, with no issues in image, sound or subtitles. The only problem we’ve found is that you can’t create multiple profiles, so keeping up with a favorite series can be a little confusing if more than one person is watching.

Crunchyroll: More Anime To Watch
Crunchyroll and Funimation are both great places to watch anime. However, Crunchyroll has the upper hand when it comes to the mass amount of anime it has over Funimation. Classics, movies, simulcast, and now even original anime that they have is a massive plus over Funimation.
Crunchyroll has over a thousand anime to watch, which makes Funimation’s numbers seem small as they have been around for a long time and even short anime to watch if you do not want to watch a full-length anime. Because of these points, Crunchyroll has a better catalog.
Which Is Better For Anime Fans
For most, the choice will come down to which anime you want to watch. The major distinction is the availability of dubbed episodes. Crunchyroll focuses on subtitled anime. Its a little more expensive but has a larger library of anime. Funimation is more affordable with less content but focuses on anime dubbed in English and subtitled anime. If you enjoy your anime in its original Japanese with English subtitles, then subscribe to Crunchyroll. If you want your anime dubbed in English, then go with Funimation.

Why Should You Join Funimation Premium
The starting rate for Funimation Premium is $5.99/£4.99 per month and this plan not only completely removes advertisements but also unlocks the full catalogue of shows ready for you to watch on multiple devices at your leisure all for less than the price of Netflix and a competitive rate to the likes of Disney Plus.
It’s highly likely that the majority of content you will click on will bear a red ‘subscribe’ button in the top left of the thumbnail or show’s splash page, meaning you will need to be subscribed to Funimation Plus in order to enjoy them. Being a member also gives you access to offline downloads and new episode releases – both subbed and dubbed – less than two weeks after their original airing in Japan.
If you’re based in the UK, there’s only one plan available and that’s Funimation Premium Plus so people in this country will get things a little cheaper overall, but without the option to pay per annum. Something to bear in mind when you’re checking out all your options.
If you’re also interested in other forms of animation, Disney Plus bundles can offer a whole host of hand-drawn classic and 3D animated movies for a similar price from the Western world. And for American television, why settle for anything less than the best Hulu prices and Paramount Plus prices.
Navigating The Funimation Ui
Funimation is a joy to use whether youre using an app or PC, with incredibly easy navigation. Every show has large thumbnails in the gallery, and they can all be added to your queue with a single button press. Looking through different genres causes no issue, and everything is responsive throughout.
Streaming is just as good as Crunchyroll, and filtering mature content is a quick process. Like Crunchyroll, the inability to create individual profiles makes the concurrent streams feel a little redundant, especially if you’re sharing with someone who’s watching the same shows as you.

You can split anime off into two main categories subbed or dubbed . Subbed is how a lot of purists prefer to watch, while dubbed gives a slightly easier entry-point.
From there youve got almost every genre you can think of. Sci-fi fans will love the Minority Report-style future cop show Psycho-Pass. Crunchyroll Vs Funimation: Which One Has The Better Catalog
What’s the top source of anime available to most of us, Crunchyroll or Funimation? We put the two side by side to see if there’s a clear victor.
This has been the question since the beginning of the anime boom overseas: which streaming platform is better? While Crunchyroll was the first anime streaming platform that began to show subtitled anime legally, Funimation used to be a production company named FUNimation Productions in 1994 that specialized in distributing foreign content.
They began to stream anime more regularly around 2005 but did not have the same impact as Crunchyroll, who most consider their go-to to watch anime. However, this does not mean Funimation has not fought back. We are going to compare the two companies and answer the years-long question: who has the best catalog?
History Of Funimation And One Piece
Funimation’s logo before 2016.
Funimation was one of the bidders in the original war over the rights to One Piece, even registering a URL for it despite not owning the rights to the series at the time. In December 2003, Funimation dismissed rumors that they had licensed the series but stated that they ” in the top companies still in negotiations” for it. They were unsuccessful and, in June 2004, 4Kids Entertainment announced that they had licensed the series.
After producing 104 English-dubbed episodes, cut down from 143 Japanese ones, 4Kids dropped the One Piece license in December 2006. On April 12, 2007, Funimation Entertainment announced they had acquired the license to the series and would premier their own English version on Cartoon Network on September 29, 2007, with Episode 144. Although Funimation’s dub would directly follow the 4Kids version for the series’ Cartoon Network broadcast, the production team behind the new dub was entirely different. Consequently, Funimation replaced every cast member, used less strict editing than 4Kids and retained the original music . Funimation’s dub was well received for its voice acting, dialogue and music.

Which Service Has A Better Anime Library
This is maybe the biggest question. Crunchyroll and Funimation both offer hundreds of anime shows, new and old. Top shows on Crunchyroll include Death Note, FLCL, and Hunter X Hunter. Funimation has Afro Samurai, Cowboy Bebop, and all the Dragon Ball you could want. Plenty of shows also appear on both services, including Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and My Hero Academia.
While both anime streaming libraries are large, Crunchyrolls is substantially larger with more than 1,200 shows compared to Funimations more than 600. Crunchyroll features live-action dramas and produces its own original shows, which Funimation does not.
Crunchyrolls real advantage is that it focuses on subtitles compared to Funimations focus on dubbing with new English voiceovers. This sub/dub split is an informal arrangement that was once an explicit deal between the two companies. Crunchyroll’s end of the deal makes it much easier for the service to debut more new shows, sometimes merely an hour after they air in Japan through simulcast. Many fans also appreciate the authenticity of hearing the original Japanese voice actors. That said, not everyone wants to read their TV shows. Funimation has been in the translation business for a long time and thats reflected in the quality, if not the quantity, of the dub work.

Is Funimation Free How To Get The Best Prices Available On Premiere Anime Series
Funimation is a streaming service that focuses on anime which does offer a limited quantity of its library for free though there are heavy restrictions. Fortunately, a 14-day Funimation free trial is sure to help you decide whether full and unlimited access is right for you, risk free.
- Check out all the Funimation Premium plans in your country
Funimation itself claims that a free account gets you access to a ‘sample’ of the total online library of anime and OVA series on the service, and at first glance on the website, it’s dead on. If you have anything more than a passing interest in anime, then watching content with a free plan is far from ideal – not to mention extremely limiting and heavy on the ads.
The new and popular anime are almost always exclusive to Funimation Premium members. These include ongoing series like Scarlet Nexus, SD GUNDAM WORLD HEROES, and How Not to Summon a Demon Lord all these are only available to members of the subscription service. If you’ve got any interest in the recent content, you won’t be able to access the lion’s share of it without a Funimation free trial or subscription.

Crunchyroll Offers A Decent Amount Of Simulcasts
Funimation also has a good amount of simulcasts which are available within hours from the original release. What makes Funimation competitive in this category is its own unique feature, called SimulDub.
Weve already established that Funimation is the best place to go if youre only interested in dubs. The SimulDub feature takes this one step further by ensuring that the dubbed content becomes available within weeks of the original Japanese broadcast. This feature is available to premium users of Funimation.
Of course, one can argue that a few weeks later is not the same as simultaneous but being able to provide the voiceover on such short notice is still quite impressive, so were giving Funimation a point.
Winner of the Round: Funimation
Which Has The Better Anime Library
Crunchyroll has a substantially larger number of titles than Funimation. As of this articles publish date, Crunchyroll has over 1130 anime titles, while Funimation had over 720. Those counts only include anime titles. Crunchyroll also has original shows and Japanese dramas, which I excluded from the title count. Funimation only offers anime.
The type of anime you find on each service varies. Crunchyroll has a much larger library of titles you wont find on Funimation like Jujutsu Kaisen, Hunter x Hunter, KonoSuba, and Haikyu!. That said, Funimation does have a few popular titles you wont find on Crunchyroll like Horimiya, Wonder Egg Priority, SK8 the Infinity, Cowboy Bebop, Initial D. However, most popular titles like Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia,JoJos Bizzare Adventure, Bleach, and Naruto can be found on both services.
What sets the services apart is your preference for watching anime subtitled or dubbed. Crunchyrolls larger library is mainly focusing on showing anime in its original Japanese with English subtitles. On the other hand, Funimation focuses on providing anime that is both subtitled and dubbed in English for those not wanting to read subtitles.
