‘sword Art Online’ Creator Explains His Use Of Sexual Assault As Plot Device
Sword Art Online remains one of the isekai genre’s top titles, but that does not mean it is problem free. The title has split fans over the years with its controversial stories, and creator Reki Kawahara is speaking out about one of the series’ most hotly debated topics.
After all, the author took to Twitter to address his use of sexual assault in Sword Art Online, and he did not hold anything back.
Recently, Kawahara decided to address the issue after an episode of Sword Art Online: Alicization housed a scene featuring graphic assault. Not only did the writer apologize to the show’s actors for having to act the scene out, but he revealed why he used the plot device at all.
“This may be a bit late, but if you’re wondering why SAO has so many of those scenes, a considerable number of light novels , epic sagas, and adventure stories I read back in middle school contained those plot elements. I would cite gun Hakusha as a representative title. My writing was bound to that as if it were under a spell,” Kawahara wrote.
“These days, the spell has finally worn off. Nowadays I would prefer to express catharsis through other means. If it was an absolutely necessary scene for the story, I would write it, but I would prefer to do that in a book that isn’t a light novel.”

Women Empowerment In Sao
This bit is very elusive. When the show starts Asuna is shown as a very powerful character. Just like Kirito, she also plays the game without joining any guild. Shes a sole player just like Kirito. The scenes in which they fall in love are really cute. What concerns me is when shes with Kirito, her character development takes a backseat.
She isnt shown as an independent strong woman. Shes clingy and needs Kirito to protect her and is basically reduced to a damsel in distress. Throughout the anime, Kirito and Asuna live an amazing life inside the game. Both of them are happy going on side adventures and exploring the world of Sword Art Online.
But then season two arrives and the first thing you notice is that Asuna is trapped inside a cage and is being molested by Nobuyuki Sug who wishes to marry her.
Asuna becomes pretty useless when Kirito is around. Asuna is helpless during most parts of the second season, which is drastically different from how she was portrayed in the first season.
Another reason why people dont like Sword Art Online is the hype. Sword Art Online has a rating of more than 8 on MyAnimeList. The fanbase of Sword Art Online is huge and essentially wherever you go they will be arguing about why its not worth it. Some people just hate anime for the sake of hating it. It might annoy some otakus that people have gravitated towards Sword Art Online while theres a ton of quality alternatives that guarantee a good time.

Can Be Good But Overall Boring
Characters are very weak and asuna is so basic, They try to make her this strong female but it ends up being tiresome. And don’t even get me started on kirito he’s every harem anime main character ever and wayyy to overpowered. The only character i somewhat liked inst even in most of it i liked liz and i also liked liz and kirrito’s realshonship i like how they actully had to bond and grow to know eacthoher but all of that devlopment is thrown in the trash for this bullshit rushed realshonship betwwen kirito and asuna. They barely talk they have one time were they were parteners and kirito didnt even see her face most the time and then they don’t see eachothr for monrths maybe years and then there suddenly in love and shit. Its rushed its boring and its so hard to get through. Even so i will say there are some good things like the idea of being stuck in a game for years is scary and probaly heart breaking to your family and friends. I love that whole idea and premmes and i think at times it is done well. The action is good and they story overall isnt terrible sometimes. But it is nowere near being the best anime ever. It has its moments but overall its boring and unfocuased. And sao 2 is pure dog shit.

SAO started very strong but everyone knows the 2nd half was not or no where as good as the fast but it was still watchable. Season 2 was a masterpiece. There was not as much action but. . There were many lessons and it introduced the psychological mind which is very rare for a anime in this case. Yes, SAO and Bleach are the only anime I have ever watched and I actually think anime is stupid because I am a white sports person but SAO had me really hooked and I like how it was based around the VR world as well as the real world.

This show is he most basic thing I have ever seen. The animation is generic, the characters are generic, and the plot is generic. The show is catered toward edgy 12 year olds who have never heard of quality control. Kirito wins every fight in SAO because he’s the strongest character. This is the most bullshit reasoning ever. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure goes out of its way to avoid this by making every characters’ ability unique . This means that no character is objectively stronger, but tactical reasoning and planning give characters the upper hand.
