Can You Watch The Persona Series Without Playing The Games

The anime adaptation of Persona isnt as good as the games but is still very entertaining. You can watch the anime before playing the games and still enjoy the games if you decide to get into them later on.

The only underwhelming aspect of the Persona series is its main character. Since the anime is adapted from a video game, the original main character was the player itself.

Since the player could customize the main character, however, they wanted to, they had no specific quirk in the game.

Also, in the original games, the mc was a silent protagonist and fundamentally had a silent and cool aura.

There no dialogue for the MC in games, and this factor affected the anime MC and, thus, had a not-so-interesting personality.

How Many Episodes Will There Be

Confirmed through the slated home video release, the retail listings for the Blu-ray and DVD releases of Persona 5 the Animation will consist of 12 volumes. Although the final number of episodes is not confirmed, the first volume of the home video release will be packed with two episodes.

Assuming that the other 11 volumes in the line come with two episodes each as well, it is safe to assume that the entire series will run for two cour, or two sets of 12 episodes . This should be good news for fans as it will give the anime series plenty of room to work through the original game’s over 70 hours of potential, adaptable content.

Persona 5 Anime Is Getting An English Dub

The Persona 5 anime series is officially getting an English dub, and all of the core voice actors are returning – including Joker, who will actually say full sentences now.

The series will release as a blu-ray set on September 29, 2020. Perhaps the most notable fact about the English dub of the Persona 5 anime is that Xander Mobus will play Joker, who is canonically known by the name Ren.

You can watch the trailer for the series below.

“The original Phantom Thieves are coming back to take your heart in the brand new PERSONA5 the Animation Complete Blu-ray Set on September 29th, 2020,” reads the video description on YouTube.

“The Complete Blu-ray Set features a never before heard English dub of PERSONA5 the Animation starring the voices from the original Persona 5 video game by ATLUS. Also included are both special episodes, a twelve illustration card set, and additional bonus content.”

For those unfamiliar with the series, Ren – or Joker – is a high school student who recently transferred to Shujin Academy in Tokyo. After a sequence of strange events, he and his companions gain passage to a mysterious world that exists as part of society’s collective unconscious, within which they have access to curious powers. Their goal is to expose the treachery of ill-willed adults and tackle a weird series of psychotic breakdowns that have been occurring sporadically across Japan.

    Connection To The Game

    Kazuya in the game.

The events depicted in the anime are based on the Mementos request in the game, titled “Phantom Thieves vs Burglary Ring.” While the corresponding event in the game is not as elaborate as the anime, Kazuya Makigami appears as the heist target of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. Morgana comments that leaving Kazuya’s gang at large will leave a taint in the Phantom Thieves’ reputation. Shadow Kazuya Makigami indeed takes Mithras’ form and summons Oni and Onmoraki to aid him in battle. The major inconsistency with the anime is that Café Leblanc is never used as a bait to confirm their crime because the Phantom Thieves do not want to cause any trouble to Sojiro Sakura, and conclude that the café is too shabby to be the bait.

So, even though Persona has some elements inspired by JoJo, it is not really a JoJo reference!

Differences Between Megami Tensei And Persona

Unlike in Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensei, the Persona series really does not involve the player recruiting demons to fight for them ” rel=”nofollow”> Persona). Many of the “demons” are actually known as Shadows.

The player characters still carry a firearm and melee weapon like in Shin Megami Tensei, but magic comes from Personas as opposed from demons. Like demons, these Personas can be fused in order to create more powerful Personas. In addition, the lunar phases are important, which is a common theme in MegaTen games. Furthermore, while the Shin Megami Tensei series’ currency are prominently identified with macca, the Persona series uses real-world currency, such as yen or dollars.

The first Persona features an angled third-person perspective outside of dungeons, but dungeons are still navigated using Megami Tensei’s first person view. Since the release of Persona 2: Innocent Sin, the first-person dungeon exploration has been removed .

Persona : The Animation Is Oddly Underrated

While many of its criticisms are certainly valid, Persona 5: The Animation is still decent in its own capacity.

Persona 5 was one of the biggest games of the last console generation, finalizing the franchise’s push into the mainstream and revitalizing interest in turn-based RPGs. It also inspired a wealth of spinoffs and side projects that were equally as successful in their own right. The same cannot be said, however, for its anime adaptation.

Unlike the preceding anime for Persona 3 and Persona 4, Persona 5: The Animation received more mixed reviews for a variety of reasons. While many of its criticisms are certainly valid, the anime adaptation itself is still decent in its own capacity. This has resulted in Persona 5: The Animation ironically being a bit underrated. While it still might fail to reach the heights of the game, it certainly isn’t nearly as bad as some have made out.
