Which Anime Trope Are You

Overused: Aloof & Passive

6 MORE Annoying Anime Tropes! (Ft. CDawgVA)

An aloof and passive character trope is typically applied to females. They go with the flow and are not privy to their surroundings or know how to read a room. Another attribute is their limited dialogue, which also attests to their inability to voice their thoughts or feelings.

Uta no Prince-sama’s Nanami and Diabolik Lover’s Yui both fall within this character trope as they rarely speak up and have no awareness of their situation in crucial moments.

Emotional Flashback Before Big Moment

Time and time again, anime has put us on the brink of something massive and then pulled us back for a mood-changing recollection. It could be a big reveal, a highly-anticipated battle, the introduction of a new character… you name it. It’s incredibly likely that a pause will occur beforehand for the sake of an emotional flashback.

These aren’t always pointless and they tend to cover a character’s backstory or the decisions that led them to their current state. They’ll occasionally draw tears from viewers and make their subject more relatable, which adds to the personality of the series as a whole.

Trope #: Invisible Parents

If anime is to be believed, it seems that every parent in Japan who has children is never there to take care of their kid due to work, social commitments, or in many instances, the parents are dead. Many anime feature the trope of nonexistent parents who let their kids run around getting themselves in unbelievable situations like fighting monsters or poking their nose where they shouldnt. Thankfully there are a few anime parents and guardians who are still around.

A List of Every Anime Trope Ever 70+

In many anime series about high school, theres often at least one female character whose chest defies gravity, biology, and even logic. Often, the main male character will either accidentally fall on them or make jokes about them. The breasts seem to exist purely for male characters to interact with. We get it, sex sells. But there are plenty of anime series that have succeeded without falling for this tired and overused trope.

Female Characters Beating Up Male Characters

Men hitting women is undoubtedly frowned upon in anime and in real life. But for some reason, women beating or hitting men in anime is acceptable. Youll often see women punching, smacking, and yelling at their male counterparts for doing something stupid.

Theres a clear double standard here. People shouldnt beat each other up period, no matter what their gender.

Sitting Near The Window In Class

Have you noticed that in almost every high school anime, the main character sits next to the window? Everyone loves the window seat, but thats probably not the real reason why you see so many characters sit there.

Artists likely place the main characters next to the window because its easiest to draw. That way, they dont have to worry about filling in the details of the classroom or other students.

Character Unlocks Secret/forgotten Power Just Before Defeat

    6 Annoying Anime Tropes

This trope generally ties in with the previous three. The hero is exhausted, their powers are depleted, and they’re about to be defeated by the opponent who currently has the upper hand. Cue the emotional flashback that reminds the hero of who they are/where they come from/what runs in their blood… you get the idea.

After that’s said and done, the opponent will likely hesitate instead of capitalizing on their opening and the hero will summon a chunk of adrenaline-fueled strength/a suitable skill that lay dormant until that very second. As common as this trope is, it always makes for an unforgettable fight sequence.

    A World Without Anime Tropes

Anime is better off without tropes. While some anime manage to exclude tropes, many fall into the same, boring rut. We can only hope that well see more creativity and fewer tropes in the future.

Anime from the past and present fall victim to tropes. Although you might encounter some of the same themes, youll still want to check out the classics of anime:

    The Cold Dandere Character

Danderes by their nature are cold hearted, aloof, and distance themselves from other people. Thats how theyre perceived.

Homura Akemi is one of those characters. Shes a tough nut to crack and doesnt show her good side to almost anyone.

Underneath that barrier though is a misunderstood girl whos warmer than she appears.

This trope is one of the most welcome there is. Its relatable as well.

    Licensing And Content Forks

TV Tropes content was licensed since April 2008 with the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license for free content. In July 2012, the site changed its license notice and its existing content to the incompatible Attribution-Noncommercial-ShareAlike version . In November 2013, TV Tropes added a clause to their Terms of Use requiring all contributors to grant the site irrevocable, exclusive ownership of their contributions. In March 2015, this clause was removed, replaced with an assertion that TV Tropes does not claim ownership of user generated content. The site license also states that it is not required to attribute user content to its authors, although the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-ShareAlike license requires attribution of the original author.

Regarding these and other concerns of re-licensing and advertising, a wiki called “All The Tropes” forked all the content from TV Tropes with the original CC BY-SA license in late 2013. Authors of the fork attributed several actions of taking commercial rights over what is published on its website, censorship, and failing to comply with the original license to TV Tropes managers. Some editors raised concerns that keeping the content submitted with the previous copyleft license at TV Tropes is illegal, as the re-licensing had occurred without the permission of the editors and the original CC BY-SA license did not allow its distribution under the new terms.

5 Annoying Shojo Anime Tropes That Should Dissappear (& 5 ...

Theres always one character in an anime who doesnt say much, almost never smiles, and is utterly cold-hearted. These characters have become hardened thanks to their tragic past.

Sasuke from Naruto is a prime example of this annoying trope. When you see so many characters with the same edgy vibe, it becomes hard to take it seriously.

Major Anime Tropes And The Shows That Avoid Them

Anime tropes have been around since the beginning of the medium and are used as a tool to point out a series motif. While tropes make it easier to quickly identify the underlying theme of an anime series, some have become quite repetitive and tiresome, showing up in an infinite number of shows. Fortunately, there are few series that entirely avoid these popular tropes or manage to keep them to a minimum. Here are 10 shows that avoid some of animes biggest tropes.

    Oblivious Main Male Character

Youd think that the main character of an anime would have some degree of intelligence. Instead, many main characters are inflicted with utter obliviousness.

Theyre completely clueless when it comes to girls who are interested in them and cant think for themselves. After a while, its frustrating to watch an anime with a main character who has no backbone.

    Becoming A Monster You Despise

What do Tokyo Ghoul, Attack on Titan, and Devilman Crybaby have in common? All of the main characters transform into something they hate, whether its a ghoul, titan, or demon.

This overused trope helps us see the good in evil, but it loses its effect when it appears so many times.

The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. revolves around Saiki Kusuo a seemingly average teenager, except that he has pink hair and antennas sticking out of his head. He also has psychic abilities like telekinesis and teleportation. But despite these powers, he cant stay away from the spotlight, as he inadvertently attracts the attention of his classmates who make it difficult to have an ordinary, hassle-free life.

While the anime is a comedy, and large chests are commonly used as a comedic tool, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. has barely any jokes involving breasts or exploit female characters for cheap laughs. Instead, the comedy comes from typical everyday situations like cultural festivals or summer trips. The series is good, clean fun that doesnt objectify women.

    The Overly Apologetic Character

Hitori Bocchi reminds me of this trope. Shes a teenager with social anxiety. And yet she makes it her mission to make friends to grow stronger.

When she feels like shes in trouble or she did something wrong, she apologizes to the extreme.

Many characters are like this. Its a trope that isnt tailored to one gender.

Avid anime viewers can spot a character trope from a mile away, which means it only takes looking at the cover design of a show to know what you’re in for.

The Anime Trope System Audiobook 19

There’s a lot to love about shonen anime. From the relatable characters, to the mesmerizing action sequences, to the slew of hilarious anime gags, watching a great shonen series can bring out the warm fuzzies in fans both new and old. However, the shonen formula can at times be tiring, and it’s hard to get excited about yet another loudmouth hero who’s oblivious to the feelings of his childhood girlfriend, as he’s too busy trying to outdo his stuck-up rival best friend. When the viewer finds out that the hero has a golden final form, their true power is never as surprising as the creators might have hoped. Even the most trope-ridden shows can still be fantastic -episodes/reference?page=2″ rel=”nofollow”> Dragon Ball Z?), but once you see the patterns emerge in the genre, they’re amazingly hard to ignore.
