How To Train Like An Anime Character

Putting It All Together

Training like an anime character until I dunk day 4

The full workout calls for 100 repetitions of each movement, performed using proper technique, followed by a 6.2-mile run.

In theory, youre encouraged to perform the workout without much rest. Yet in practice, you may need to rest occasionally during the 100 reps, as well as between exercises.

Summary

The full One Punch Man workout involves 100 situps, pushups, and squats followed by a 6.2-mile run. All reps should be performed with proper technique.

The benefits of the workout include muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness improvements.

Kakashi Would Train: Kyoka Jiro Aka Earphone Jack

Not all heroes fight with their fists the way All Might does. Others use support-style Quirks, and that includes Kyoka Jiro, who has a sonic Quirk called Earphone Jack. With this Quirk, Kyoka can detect even the faintest and most distant sounds to track her enemies and thus prepare some battle plans.

Kyoka’s Quirk can also deliver powerful sonic attacks and break up the ground, either on offense or defense, and she has a good head on her shoulders. All things considered, she would make a great student, and Kakashi could teach her a little more taijutsu, or at least, show her how to throw shuriken. Kyoka’s physical combat skills need some enhancement, after all.

Sanji’s Hellish Training On Momoiro Island

One Piece fans are familiar with Sanji’s fighting abilities. Throughout the anime, he’s shown to have incredible strength in his legs. Alongside Zoro, Franky, Usopp, and Nami, he’s not a Devil Fruit user his abilities can seem a bit odd compared to the other Straw Hat Pirates who utilize their Devil Fruit powers or some form of weaponry. Sanji found himself at Momoiro Island, where he spent most of his time running for his life from the inhabitants for two years.

What’s both hilarious and ridiculous about it is that it’s all Sanji does: running across the beach, the forests, everywhere. No matter the terrain or the harshest weather, that’s how he spends most of his “hellish” training. The result is legs so strong they can break the neck of a Pacifista in one kick.

Drawing The Basic Head Shape

  • 1Draw a circle on your paper with a vertical line running through the middle. Use a pencil so youre able to erase your lines if you make a mistake. Lightly draw the circle in the center of a piece of paper so you have room to add features to it. Find the middle of your circle and lightly sketch a straight line that extends from the top of the circle down your sheet of paper so you know where the middle of the face is.XResearch source
  • Start by drawing your circle large so you have room to draw the features. Otherwise, your lines may get messy and it could be hard to draw correctly.
  • Tip: If you have trouble drawing a circle without help, either use a compass or trace something circular.

  • 2Make a guide line for the eyes a third of the way up from the bottom of the circle. Measure about a third of the way up from the bottom of your circle and use your pencil to make a mark. Use a straightedge to draw a horizontal line that extends past the edges of the circle to use as a guide for the characters eyes. Dont apply too much pressure when you draw the line since it will be hard to erase otherwise.XResearch source
  • Your measurements do not need to be precise. If you dont have a ruler, estimate the distance with the end of your pencil instead.
  • If youre drawing a female character, place the mark at a distance equal to of the circles diameter since female anime and manga characters tend to have rounder faces.
  • Cleaning Up And Finishing The Drawing

  • 1Erase the guidelines to clean up your drawing. Use either the eraser on your pencil or a block eraser to lift up any guide lines that arent a part of the characters face or head. Carefully work around any of the facial features youve drawn so you dont erase their lines too much. Continue erasing the rest of the guides on your drawing until all thats left is the face.XResearch source
  • If you drew your guide lines too dark, then they may not fully erase off of the paper.
  • Use a thin eraser to get in detailed areas, like the eyes or ears.
  • 2Give your character a fun hairstyle. Anime and manga characters can have a variety of hairstyles, so choose one that you think will look best on your character. Avoid drawing every single strand of hair and instead sketch the basic shape of the style onto your character. Work lightly in pencil so you can erase and make changes if you need to. Once you have a roughed-in shape for the hairstyle, erase any parts of the head that the hair covers so its not visible.XResearch source
  • Anime or manga hair is usually broken up into clumps that end in a point. Look at hairstyles of various characters to get ideas of how to style your characters hair.
  • Tip: Practice drawing different hairstyles on a piece of tracing paper over your drawing so you dont have to erase your character if you dont like the style you drew.

  • You dont have to add any additional details to your character if you dont want to.

    Drawing A Tough Anime Character

These are often positive characters that may help protect the protagonist but they can also sometimes smack them around. They also tend to be into some sort of martial arts or kendo and may often get into fights.

A pony tail can be fairly common for these types of characters as it can give them that sporty as athletes often tie their hair back so it doesnt get in the way.

For a tough looking character draw the eyes with the top eyelids down and the bottom eyelids slightly raised. Draw the eyebrows with the inner ends lowered.

Draw the mouth in a very light upside down curve.

    Acting Like A Generic Character

How To Stay Motivated Like an Anime Character
  • 1 Dont worry: anime and manga characters are not much different from real people. There are shy characters, funny characters, sarcastic characters, and, of course, dastardly villainous characters. Even if you aren’t imitating a specific character, having some sort of base personality in mind will help. Once you have a base to work off of, you can add the extras that make the character more anime or manga-like and really pop.
  • Don’t know what sort of personality to choose? Try picking one opposite to your own for a fun, added challenge. If you are shy, try acting like a bold or hyper character.
  • Consider basing your character’s personality off of an existing one. For example, you could be cold like Sephiroth from “Final Fantasy 7.”
  • 2Exaggerate your emotions. If youre even a novice anime or manga fan, youve probably noticed that many of the characters’ reactions are pretty extreme. Take your desired personality’s basic traits, and exaggerate them. If you want to be happy, act extra happy. If you want to be cold or serious, act extra cold or serious. Take this as a fun opportunity to act outrageous and different than you normally would.
  • One of the most notable is Edward Elric from “Fullmetal Alchemist”. He gets very upset whenever someone implies that he is short.
  • There are many emotionless archetypes as well. Instead of exaggerating your emotions, try concealing them and acting cool, calm, and collected.
  • A sarcastic character may cock his eyebrow.

Bringing Anime Training To Fans In Real Life

During my journey into fitness , I stumbled across a blog called Real Anime Training, which, like the name suggests, is dedicated to cataloging the workouts of characters from various anime . It was started by personal trainer Stephen Ross in 2007 and has grown to house hundreds of workouts from a number of different shows and comics. His platform is serving as the primary inspiration for the app that I am discussing in this article. You can read more about Stephen and the blog here.

How To Draw An Anime Body

CM: Training [Naruto OC] by KarameruYukika on DeviantArt

This “skeleton”, though so simple, is actually half of the jobonce you have set the proportions the way you want, there’s not much you can do wrong! But a correctly drawn skeleton is just a skeleton, so let’s see how to fill it and create a body.

An anime body can be reduced to simple forms, like spheres and ellipsoids. They introduce another level of proportions, although they’re much looser and easier to keep right. It’s important to remember that although they look like circles and ellipses in your drawing, they’re actually 3D objects, and they are subject to perspective.

Let’s take a look at the body parts separately. The torso still looks very much like an hourglass. You just have to remember about the tilting of the chest and hips towards the waist in the back.

The limbs are a little more complex, but still easily understandable. Just imagine them as the limbs of a drawing dummy! Also, pay attention to the joints.

Drawing An Angry Looking Anime Villain Character

This angry expression is one that anime villain characters tend to make when they are ticked off .

For the angry looking villain draw the top eyelids lowered and the bottom eyelids raised . Draw the pupils and irises small with no shadows and small reflections same as the previous example.

Position the eyebrows lower down in wave like shapes.

Draw the mouth in a sort of bean shape with the bottom ends curving slightly downwards and the teeth showing.

    Drawing A Yandere Anime Character

A yandere is a reverse of the tsundere. A character who appears to be nice and friendly but can actually be quite hostile. The extreme versions of this character can be a downright crazy.

For the yanderes normal face you can draw it exactly the same as you would the ordinary girl with big eyes and a fairly friendly expression.

You can also give her long but slightly more messy hair to give a hint that there may be something off about her.

How To Draw An Anime Torso And Breasts

The whole body is well established, so now we only need to add the details. Even if you don’t care much about showing the muscle definition, the anatomy still influences the final look of the body, so you can’t ignore it. So let’s take a closer look at the anatomy of anime bodies.

The torso is the simplest to draw because it has big, clear muscle masses, and it doesn’t change shape too much. The abs and the pectorals are the muscles known even to laymen, so make sure to mark them.

Drawing A Crazy Looking Anime Villain Character

Training like an Anime Character for a Week!

To give the anime villain character that crazy or maniacal look they sometimes have draw the irises and pupils of the eyes very small so that there is a good bit of white space around them.

Draw the eyebrows somewhat lower in wave like shapes as the previous example but with their inner ends raised slightly back up again. Again dont add any shadows to the irises and draw only one set of reflections.

Draw the mouth with the teeth showing in a wide smile.

Eventually you should end up with crazy looking eyes and a grinning mouth. Prefect expression for a villain

Drawing A Happy Tough Anime Character

As already mentioned these types of characters can be fairly emotional and are as likely to easily be happy as angry.

For a happy/content face draw the tough girls eyes fully closed. Basically a set of curves with eyelashes. Draw the eyebrows slightly flatter than normal .

For a detailed explanation on drawing closed anime eyes see:

    Basic Shapes Drawing Exercises

Practice drawing basic shapes such as squares, circles, triangles, ovals, rectangles, etc

Try and draw each shape with only one stroke per side. Draw the circle and ovals with one solid line from start to finish.

Dont worry if your shapes dont come out right, simply try and improve on the next shape.

    Drawing An Antagonist/villain Anime Character

The antagonist or the main villain is usually the direct opposite of the protagonist. A negative character with few to no good traits.

To draw an unfriendly looking anime character like this example draw the pupils of the eyes and irises fairly small with the top eyelids covering a good portion of the eye.

Do not add any shadows to the top of the irises . Also draw fewer highlights in the eyes and make them fairly small for an even less friendly look.

Draw the bottom eyelids and the mouth in reverse curves .

Position the eyebrows lower down in wave like shape for a sort of semi-permanent frown.

You can use what is often referred to as a Hime Cut for the hair. As Hime means princess combined with a look like the one above it can reinforce the idea of a stuck up or spoiled character.

    Haiji’s And Kakeru’s Training

Run with the Wind is an entire training session for the Hakone Ekiden, one of Japan’s most famous college relay marathons. It follows a group of out-of-shape college students who take to the track and the streets, led by experienced runners Haiji Kiyose and Kakeru Kurahara, to get themselves up to snuff. Though the training is simple enough – just run – it’s still shocking when their team somehow manages to qualify for the Hakone Ekiden, beating out other teams who have years more experience and training.

    How To Get Started

If you aspire to complete a One Punch Man training program, your best bet is to start with a fraction of the overall workout and build up to the full session.

Start with 1020% of the volume and slowly work your way up to the full training program. For example, you could start with 10 reps of situps, pushups, and squats followed by a 0.62-mile run.

Depending on how you feel, you can then add 5 additional reps and 0.3 miles at the end of each week and build up to the full workout.

Keep in mind that its better to do fewer reps with proper form to protect your body from injury than to go too hard too soon and potentially hurt yourself.

Additionally, consider taking 23 weekly rest days and mix up your training program after a few weeks.

Finally, if situps cause or worsen low back pain, switch them out for another core exercise such as bird dogs or skip them altogether.

    Summary

Its best to think of this workout as a challenge rather than a comprehensive fitness program. Unless youre already in good physical shape, the daily exercise volume can be unattainable. Start slowly, focus on proper technique, and take rest days.
