Tokyo Ghoul Is Blamed For A Disturbing Self
In this anime, citizens of Tokyo are afraid of bloodthirsty and flesh-hungry scavengers known as ghouls – beings who live alongside humans and can blend in perfectly with society. Not only is this psychological thriller and horror anime rated R for its extreme violence and gore, but it was also blamed for a disturbing trend occurring in China – skin embroidery. Skin embroidery involves stitching symbols and patterns into the skin, which were then uploaded onto a website for public viewing. China banned this anime because of its graphic content and crimes against public morality.
Should Be Banned: Smeargle
Lets just take a moment here to look at Smeargle. Does that look like the face of might, malice, and relentless destruction? No, no it doesnt. It looks like a beagle. Dont be deceived, though. While Smeargle has terrible stats, its a neat supporter in VGC , and has been a huge menace in the past. Largely due to one asset: Dark Void.
The community has gone backward and forwards over the banning of Dark Void , as putting both opponents to sleep at once is totally uncool. As of right now, players have had to settle for a nerf to the moves accuracy, which is something, at least.

‘excel Saga And Puni Puni Poemy’
Excel Saga went too far with its series finale. Accurately titled Going Too Far its the only episode in the Excel Saga that is still unaired in Japan. The final installment is way over the top, due to its episode length, extreme violence, and obscenity.
From the team behind Excel Saga, that got its final episode banned in their home country, comes an even more over-the-top anime thats meant to be just that, Puni Puni Poemy.
The series like its predecessor features sexual scenes often including minors, needless violence, and cruelty. The Office of Film and Literature Classification in New Zealand found these reasons sufficient enough not to allow Puni Puni Poemy to air in New Zealand.
Us And Japan Reject United Nations Proposal To Ban Various Forms Of Anime Manga And Games

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child have published comments received from various nations on its Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child draft law they announced back in February.
The law came under scrutiny from some nations. While the law would be used to enforce the restriction child prostitution and media depicting sexually exploited children, they feared its terminology around the latter would be too vague.
This could result in the prosecuting of individuals not engaged in creating or viewing such material .
The UN posted various responses to their proposal from various nations and organizations. The United States, Japan and Austria all laid out issues they had with the proposed law. The United States stated they wished their own local laws to take precedent over the UNs proposed laws:
Japan also stated similar concerns, stating removing audio and written material from the law, as well as clarification on whether an allegedly offending piece of media is depicting a child.
Finally, Austria also expressed its concerns, stating that EU law already had a definition that they felt were more accurate.

Series Pulled In South Korea
While Hetalia makes fun of many countries, South Koreans found it in particularly bad taste, given the rough history between Japan and Korea. A petition to ban the series got over 16,000 signatures, in spite of South Korea being removed as a character from the anime, and Kids Station, the TV network with the Korean broadcasting rights, was forced to cancel the broadcast due to death threats!
High School Dxd In New Zealand
High School DxD is a very popular anime series but it is known for being very sexual, as it does have elements of traditional harem anime. Due to the young age of its cast of characters, New Zealand decided to ban the series because they considered it sexually exploitative of young people.
The show focused on a “perverted” high school student with dreams of becoming part of a harem but then his date kills him. He is eventually revived as a devil to serve a female devil and her family.

Anime Has Bad Effects On Impressionable Youth Television Nowadays In General Has A Lot Of Garbage In It
Youth in America spend far too much time in front of an electronic gadget. When I was a kid we didn’t have any newfangled phone devices or television sets. We exercised our minds for fun. We played in the dirt and threw the ball around. Last week I found my nephew watching something he calls anti or hantee, Something or other and from what I could see it looked foul and un-Godly. He said it was Japanese anime and it represented another culture so his parents let him watch it. If he thinks this is acceptable viewing material for a child his age whooee he’s got another thing coming. Anime corrupts our youth and it makes them unpatriotic and frankly unhuman. Our kids should watch American television. Also, My nephew told me he watches up to 30 or 40 hours of anime in a week. This kind of time should not be spent on such drivel. It should instead be spent on gainful employment and education. In all my fifty-five years if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s education is the scourge that chases poverty away.

Midori: Shoujo Tsubaki Was Banned Everywhere
Shoujo Tsubaki has a pretty dark and depressing storyline that will help you understand why it was universally banned. The anime was about a young girl who became part of a freak show and ritually abused and humiliated until she met an ally in the form of a mystical dwarf magician.
It is considered a lost anime film due to its graphic content. Many people destroyed the tapes when it was first released because they were disturbed by it. Years after its initial release, it was re-released and is now easier to find. There was even a live-action version created in 2016.

Corpse Party Was Deemed Too Violent With Its Horrific Content
Corpse Party is a horror and mystery series. It’s also a gore-filled and violent supernatural anime that’s rated R. In this series, students gather in their high school to say goodbye to their friend who is moving away. However, their ritual was linked to the Heavenly Host Academy – a school that was torn down and abandoned after a series of horrific murders. The remains of the Academy happened to lie underneath their current school. Transported to another dimension, they have to survive the supernatural beings or risk staying there forever. Due to the horrifying content, the Chinese government banned this anime for being too violent.
There’s No Point In Banning Anime
The United States is known for it’s values of freedom. Many types of entertainment and shows air on TV, and anime is no different. Censorship is here for a reason, you don’t have to ban it, you could just censor the stuff you don’t want. You can’t blame a whole type of animation on a couple bad shows made using the style. Using that logic we should ban shows using real people and cameras, since there is a lot of inappropriate stuff on the internet that is filmed using that style of filming. Many people enjoy anime, and we shouldn’t ban their favorite style of animation and shows just because some of us don’t like what some anime shows do.By the way, I don’t even watch anime.

Should Be Banned: Cresselia
Anyone who has dabbled in competitive Pokemon over the last decade or so has almost certainly encountered this thing. Weve already touched on the fact that defensive Pokemon can be real nightmares to deal with, and Cresselia is the absolute epitome of that.
Its just so darn solid. Its defenses are some of the best in the game, and it has a great healing move to sustain itself. It can happily boost itself and dish out some nice damage, too. Cresselias main asset, however, is the huge range of supporting moves it has access to. Trick Room? Sun? Helping Hand? Maybe something a little different, like Gravity? It can do it all.
Should Be Banned: Mega Kangaskhan
So, yes. As much as some snark on Game Freak and the balancing of Pokemon, theres one thing players definitely can say for them: when its really necessary and the outcry is loud enough, they will sometimes step in and try to fix some of their biggest mistakes. Eventually.
Mega Kangaskhan is one example. In the transition to Pokemon Sun and Moon, its ability Parental Bond was nerfed, so the second hit dealt only a quarter of the damage of the first. Before this change, Mega Kangaskhan was absolutely monstrous , and dominated tournament play as a result.

Court Cases And Other Countries
At least one person has been charged in the U.S. with possessing pornographic material transported in interstate commerce under the PROTECT Act. In 2008, Christopher Handley pled guilty to obscenity and child porn charges after buying a comic book featuring pornographic manga.4 He was sentenced to 6 months in jail, but was not required to register as a sex offender. He had been facing up to 15 years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000.5
Some countries, like the United Kingdom, have obscenity laws that make it a crime to possess pornographic images of children under 18, even if they are not photographs or do not depict real children.6
In other countries, like Germany, fictional depictions of sexual acts involving children are not criminal. Because such material is not real life and does not depict real people or actual minors engaging in explicit conduct, it is protected by freedom of speech laws.
California law does not explicitly prohibit loli involving underage characters having sex.
Is Lolicon Legal In The United States
Strict federal and state laws protect children from sexual abuse, child pornography, child molestation, and other sex crimes. Our laws severely punish individuals for a variety of sex crimes involving children.
However, many people are unaware that watching cartoons could get them into trouble legally. Watching animated depictions of children engaged in sexual activity could result in a child pornography charge.

What Is The Law In California
Child pornography laws in California do not explicitly cover loli or manga depicting minors engaging in sexual activity. California statutes prohibit the possession of child pornography. Child porn includes material that depicts a person under the age of 18 years personally engaging in or simulating sexual conduct.7
The California Court of Appeals has ruled that this means there has to be a real child in the depiction.8 This means that anime and cartoon depictions of children engaging in sexual acts would not break the law.
Is Loli Legal In The United States
Possessing child pornography is illegal in the United States. Under the PROTECT Act of 2003, any obscene images depicting a minor is considered child pornography. The act was passed in part to make virtual child pornography illegal, even though it did not depict an actual child.
Because lolicon depicts an identifiable minor engaged in sexually explicit situations, loli violates federal law in the United States. You can be arrested and charged with a crime if you possess lolicon in any form.
Other countries have also enacted laws making lolicon and shotacon illegal. They criminalize loli as pedophilia, child pornography, or other illegal material. However, loli continues to be legal in some countries.
International laws governing lolicon vary. Loli is not illegal in Germany because it does not depict real people. However, under the obscenity laws in the United Kingdom, viewing pornographic images of minors, including anime, is illegal.

Black Butler Is Also Filled With Disturbing And Graphic Content
Black Butler is another anime that was banned in China for several reasons. This story involves Ciel Phantomhive and the unseemly events that occur in England and the rebellions against the Queen. It also contains supernatural elements such as contracts with demons. With a rating of R for its dark themes, violence, gore, and the encouragement of delinquency, it isnt for the faint of heart. In addition, the manga is incredibly dark and contains disturbing and graphic content. All of which are reasons why both the anime and manga have been deemed inappropriate by the Chinese government.
Anime That Were Banned
Not everyone loves anime, especially these countries.
Anime is a medium, and as such, it covers a wide variety of genres and themes aimed at different audiences. And sometimes it can get quite surreal. From bizarre monsters to dark storylines to unconventional ways of addressing adult themes, it can become very uncomfortable. So it comes as no surprise that religious groups, governments, or school administrators would like to censor or even ban these types of anime. So, lets check out some of these anime and see why they are banned.

Excel Saga’s Last Episode In Japan
In a strange twist of fate, this show had only its last episode banned in Japan. First of all, the episode was made three minutes too long to air. Besides that, the entire episode is as obscene and violent as possible. Very fittingly, the episode was titled “Going Too Far” and can only be seen in DVD releases of the show.
The director of the show, Shinichi Watanabe, admitted he purposefully wanted the episode to be banned. In the Excel Saga DVD volume 3, he even says it an interview that it “felt good to go past the limits of a TV series”, but it “is not something that you should do too often.”
