Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo

The Largest Anime Convention / Comic Con in the world?

In 2011, Stan Lee put together a massive convention that attracted fans of anime, horror, science fiction, fantasy, and gaming held over a course of three days in Los Angeles, California. In its first year alone, Comikaze Expo had 35,000 attendees. In 2014, attendance was up to 65,000.

The convention has attracted numerous celebrities such as Weird Al, Adam West, Todd McFarlane, and Kevin Smith. With the numbers growing at this rate, this convention is set to give some of the larger Cons a run for their money in the near future.

Evolving Cosplay Manga And Anime Sweeping The World

These days, masses of people are flocking to anime conventions around the world. It seems to be a craze suddenly spreading like wildfire.

The United States alone hosts more than 200 such events each year, while conventions have also been sprouting up all over Europe, ever since the first 2000 Japan Expo in Paris. To give an idea of how fast it has picked up steam, the number of Japan Expo visitors has shot up from 3,200 in 2000 to 192,000 in 2011. The phenomenon is not limited to the United States and Europe. Brazil has its biannual Anime Friends and India launched the India Anime Convention in 2011, attracting 20,000 visitors. China had the Japan Anime Festival in November 2011, which was jointly hosted by the Japanese and Chinese governments, and this should become even more exciting in 2012 when people will be celebrating The 40th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China diplomatic relations. Southeast Asia is also seeing a gradual increase of events, cosplay conventions in particular, as with Vietnam’s ACCtive Expo, which started in 2007.

Where Can I Buy Food Or Drinks

Inside Tokyo Big Sight, there are several restaurants, vending machines, and convenience stores. Hunger or thirst will not be a problem.

Also at the event, theres a place called the Food Park where you will find special anime-themed food. Lines here are generally long so youd better really want it.

Last year there were dishes of Fate/stay night, Gintama, Osomatsu-san, Blood Blockade Battlefront , etc.

The most necessary information is in English.

The first time I went I did not speak Japanese very well, and I did not have any communication problems.

What Are The Queues Like At Animejapan

How did your first anime convention go?

If you go after 12 pm, you will not need to line up. If you go before, you may need to queue for 3 to 5 hours.

If you dont believe me, I leave you a photo of what queuing looks like before 12 pm.

Yes, you gotta go. Its a magnificent and spectacular anime event for every anime fan.

In my opinion, its even better than Comiket.

The cosplayers and hundreds of exhibits make AnimeJapan the best anime convention in the world.

I took a great picture with the Gemini Cloth of Saint Seiya, and with a Vegeta & Goku mascot. I saw a big statue of Al , and I even got Boku No Hero Academia manga for free. There were also hundreds of goods from my favorite anime, etc.

AnimeJapan, without question, is the best anime event in Japan.

What Are Anime Conventions Called

I know what youre thinking: Comic-Con is about comics, not Anime, otherwise it would be called Anime-Con. And since there are literally hundreds of different Anime series that show up during the Comic-Con weekend that you can watch, plus there are plenty of people dressed as Anime characters hanging around among those dressed as Batman and Spider-Man, so SDCC understands Anime as well as it does the other nerds that procure throughout the weekend.

Naturally there are different types of conventions depending on the people who attend them. There are many anime conventions in the United States and outside the country as well, and they cater to the self-described otaku of each country. You can attend one of these conventions and instantly find yourself surrounded by people dressed up as Bleach characters, hear the screams of people who found their favorite characters costumes, and attend nightly panels about Anime. In other words, otaku heaven.

Anime Conventions In Monterrey 2021

Anime conventions outside of Japan began in the 1980s within multi-genre conventions and science fiction conventions, where anime had a limited place. Although many Japanese programs that were broadcast were very popular, the direct penetration of the anime video market in North America and Europe came in the late 1980s. From that time on, anime conventions in North America and Europe took on some characteristics of conventions in Japan such as using a large hotel with a meeting hall, spanning one or two days, more within a weekend, inviting members of the video industry, alternative fashion and cosplay, merchants selling various merchandise and others enjoying the event.

Occasionally at these events there is a guest list as part of the program. Thus, a guest may be a member of the industry, a talent or even a figure within the fan community. An anime convention represents an opportunity to interact with these guests in a way that is not possible outside of the event.

Largest North American Anime Conventions Of 2017

Every year, in the first week of January, AnimeCons.com takes a look back at the previous year to see which anime conventions were the largest in North America, how the numbers have changed, what may have caused the changes, and if there’s any trends that may affect other anime conventions or fan conventions as a whole. As we always remind people, this absolutely is not meant to be a list of the “best” anime cons, but merely the largest.

Before we present the list, an explanation is needed for the different ways that conventions count their attendance:

  • The most common method for conventions, but one that is very misleading, is used by most non-anime conventions and trade shows. A “turnstile” attendance count method counts people multiple times for every day of the convention that they attend. For example, if there are 10,000 people at a three day convention each day, they would report their attendance as 30,000…as if each of those 10,000 people passed through a turnstile once per day. A four day convention with 10,000 people each day would report a turnstile attendance count as 40,000 people. Although anime conventions are starting to report turnstile numbers, they are often offered in addition to one of the following two counting methods. Although this site considers turnstile counts to be misleading and disingenuous, we’ve recently started listing them in order to be able to help people distinguish the difference and be able to compare attendance numbers more fairly.
  • It Is Mostly About Doujin

New York’s Biggest Anime Convention Returns!

It is sorta in the name. Since Comiket is shorthand for Comic Market, and doujins are basically Japanese fan comics, it is no doubt that it is the convention’s main selling point. The biggest of the three main attractions for sure.

Each year it hosts around 35,000 circles that come in and out every day, depending on whatever theme the takes. Each day usually centered around a theme, a show, or even a character.
