Anime and manga are popular Japanese forms of animation and comics that have a very distinctive art style. If you want to draw your favorite character or design one on your own, start by designing their head and face so you can sketch what they look like. When you first start the head, draw the outline and the basic shapes so you can properly place the features. Once you add the eyes, nose, ears, and mouth, you can erase your guidelines and sketch in a hairstyle. With a bit of practice and patience, youll be able to design anime faces in no time!

Drawing Anime & Manga Hair

Anime hair is often based on real hairstyles but tends to be drawn in clumps rather than individual strands. One good reason for this is that if you are drawing multiple frames of animation or multiple panels of a manga it will simply be too time consuming to draw anything overly detailed.
A good approach to drawing anime hair is to split it into several different parts such as the front, sides and back/top .
For drawing characters that can go along with these hairstyles see:

How To Draw The Body Of An Anime Girl
As with the face, the body of any character in anime begins with a sketch that has the most basic characteristics of the characters design.
In this step, it is very important to consider the dimensions of the body, for which it is recommended that the body be more or less seven times the size of the head. In this way, it is ensured that the body is proportional.
The Birth Of The Manga
One of the most representative things in Japanese culture is Manga, which is the most popular form of graphic art in Japan and has transcended the whole world.
Through the manga, the Japanese are in charge of telling stories, both real and fantastic, that have a striking and very attractive design.
The Manga later transcended to another form of storytelling, going from being only simple comic to being a completely animated drawing.
This is when Anime was born, which is the abbreviation that the Japanese use for the word animation.
For other parts of the world this word refers, apart from animation, to the style of drawing found in a Japanese manga.

Start By Drawing The Basic Shapes
Drawing anime characters is fascinating and looks pretty hardbut, interestingly, all your favorite characters are born out of basic shapes like circles, squares, triangles, and so on.
Start by improving your basic drawing. Practice simple figures like straight lines, circles, rectangles, ovals, and other similar shapes. This sounds boring , but everyone who draws has started from this “baby” stage, so why should it be any different for you? To build complex structures, you need to first master simplicity. This will help you improve your drawing and your creative vision.
Try drawing these basic shapes for a few minutes daily. Then, draw anything that fits your imagination. You can try combining these basic shapes to make real-life figures for example, you can use squares or rectangles of different sizes to build basic human anatomy. One such example is given in step 3 below.

Draw The Sides Of The Hair

After placing all of the facial features you can move on to drawing the hair.
To emphasize that the character is beautiful we will give her a fairly neat hair style.
When drawing the hair you can think of it as being split into the sides, front and back/top sections. For a more detailed explanation of this as well as examples of other hair styles see:
Begin by drawing the sides part of the hair. In this case these will be two fairly long clumps that begin from around the top of the head and end with a pair of splits slightly below the shoulders.
Make these slightly curved as though they are hugging the head/face and also make them slightly wider towards the bottom.

For the other placement example as well as more information on drawing ears see:
In this case most of the ears will be covered by the hair so there is not much need for drawing their inner details.

Draw Different Kinds Of Characters

As you practice your anime drawings, its important to branch out and draw all kinds of people and characters. Itll vastly improve your drawings overall.
Tuning Of Details Of The Silhouette

Once you have the basic silhouette, you must begin to improve the details of your characters body.
In this step, you must shape the hands, feet, torso of the character, which in this case is to create the shape of the girls breasts and their dimensions.
In the female characters it is recommended to create delicate contours, widening the hips and placing the shoulders at a slightly reduced distance.

Tuning The Details Of The Drawing
Once all these steps are completed, all the guidelines that are not part of the main silhouette of the character must be erased.
This process, as with the face, must be done with great care so as not to eliminate any section of the previously made drawing.
After this you must add clothes to your character.
This element of the drawing is very important to consider, since the clothes of a character is the way in which his personality and tastes are shown, having that the designs have no limits and depend only on your imagination.
Then, the clothes should be drawn on the silhouette that was already had the body of the character, so that there are parts that should be erased because they are covered with clothing.
The wrinkles of the clothes are also necessary, for which it is recommended to imagine how the clothes of your character would wrinkle if they were used by a real person.
Finally, if you follow all these steps you will have completed your anime girl character.
Bangs Fringe & Curly Hair
Getting hair to fall naturally is no easy feat. When drawing manga its standard practice to simplify the hair into large clumps called bangs.
In this tutorial youll learn how to form the curve of the bangs accurately and how to add extra detail.
The artist takes it a step further by discussing how pigtails influence the shape of the hair and the best way to construct them. Lots of info here for anime hair lovers.

Add The Small Details
After you finish drawing the outlines of the hair and placing all of the facial features you can then draw all of the small details.
In this case those will be:
- Inner details of the eyes
- Hair folds
While the eyes in that example are slightly different all of the drawing steps can be applied to the example in this tutorial.
You can see a basic step by step drawing of the details of the eyes above. Also please note that the irises are shaded grey just to make the highlights in the final drawing a bit easier to see. If you are going to be coloring the eyes you may wish to make them a different color.
When done with the eyes you can add a few extra hair folds as shown in the first example.
Finally you can also add a little beauty mark/mole just slightly below one of the eyes . This will again help emphasize that the girl is beautiful as some famous models have these.
You can see a slightly larger version of the face above to make it a little bit easier to see.
