The End Of The World Anime

Gargantia On The Verdurous Planet

The World Ends with You The Animation – Official Trailer

Gargantia is one of the most intriguing anime universes. First, you are transported to a world in which mankind has been banished to space and is constantly at war with a specific species of alien life.

Soldiers only reprieve is the dangling carrot of a utopia where they can rest and breed.

However, as the main character is thrown into space, he arrives on a planet that is mostly made of water and where humans live on fleets of boats that replace earth, just like Kevin Costner in Waterworld.

Furthermore, owing to previous civilizations, there is a second world under the sea.

Nausica Of The Valley Of The Wind

Besides zombies, a common happening in post-apocalyptic movies is nuclear fallout.

And we have it baby.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind tells of a world where nuclear war, cutely named Seven Days of Fire, has left the Earth in shambles. We see poisonous toxins filling the air and giant bugs swarming the newly jungle-covered Earth.

But near the sea its a bit calmer. So the Valley of the Wind resides there.

Its a nice little town with a lovable queen called Nausicaä and wait, whats that flying towards us? Oh no, not again

Definitely check this out if you havent already. Its got beautiful Ghibli animation with some very memorable characters.

Planetarian: Hoshi No Hito

For my last pick, I wanted to select something to ease the nerves.

I mean, we just went through dozens of scenarios of how wed all die or get real close to death.

So Planetarian also has a lot of us die due to nuclear fallout. But youll forget about that quickly.

The centerpiece of this movie is a talking robot who starts telling interesting stories to a scavenger that happened to find her. Since humanity is intergalactic at this point, prepare for a lot of fun astronomy stuff here as well.

Now And Then Here And There

Now and Then, Here and There starts with a normal high school student Shuzo Matsutani walking home school, whereupon he comes across a girl being attacked by people in dragon-like mecha suits. As he steps in to protect that girl, both of them are transported to another world, where it’s a wasteland as far as the eye can see, and is supposedly what the Earth will look like in the future.

The residents of the wasteland engage in warfare on a daily basis, and the worst of it all is that water has turned into a rarity in this barren world.

Somali And The Forest Spirit

Pin on cosplay ideas

I bet the last thing you expected in this list was some wholesome content, but here it is.

Somali and the Forest Spirit is set in a world where humans arent really liked. In fact, theyve been driven nearly to extinction.

So our protagonist, a lonely little girl, has quite the tough journey ahead of her. Luckily she meets a kind-hearted golem who decides to protect her and acts as a father figure.

So if you just dont think about the whole massive extinction part, this show is actually wholesome and comfy as all hell.

Netflix Anime Bubble Turns Post

Bubble.

In Bubble, a new anime film on Netflix, there are plenty of the typical hallmarks of a dystopic city. The movie takes place in a version of Tokyo thats been almost entirely abandoned, and there are lots of rusted cars, crumbling buildings, and greenery reclaiming its place amongst the urban sprawl. But theres also a vibrancy to the city something that was very important to director Tetsuro Araki. We wanted to make it light and colorful because we wanted to present this dystopian landscape almost as a utopia, he tells The Verge.

The reason for that tone might have to do with Bubbles rather unique premise. Its not a typical end of the world story. Instead of a planet beset by war or natural disasters, in Bubble, the earth is attacked by… bubbles. Five years before the events of the film, mysterious bubbles began to rain down all over the world, and eventually, a giant one enveloped the entire city of Tokyo. From there, while the rest of the country went on largely as normal, Tokyo became mostly abandoned. The only residents are street kids who live on their own and participate in a team-based version of parkour where the winners get supplies like gasoline and ramen. For these kids, the sense of freedom in the city is almost like a utopia.

Its just so grotesquely different from the Tokyo that were used to.

Is it really the end of the world?? WorldEnd (First Impressions ...

The post-apocalyptic genre is a subgenre of science fiction. It first emerged in the early 1820s and has since gained popularity due to its what if factor that entices the mind with blissfully dangerous possibilities. It initially aimed to raise awareness of the environmental damage humans cause, thus informing us of the possible consequences of our uncontrolled actions. The leading causes of most post-apocalyptic situations in media point toward natural disasters like tsunamis or earthquakes or the effects of manmade disasters like nuclear substances or climate change.

Naturally, the Japanese too used post-apocalyptic situations to spread the news of the damage caused by nuclear warfare in places like Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Ranging from disfigured genetic modifications to excessive dependence on technology in futuristic settings to escaping to space for a planet B, anime producers have it all covered. However, the most popular setting used in this genre of anime seems to be the type that leads to the use of machines and brute force for survival.

Highschool Of The Dead

There are few things that are as synonymous with the apocalypse as zombies.

Which is why youre going to see a fair bit of them here.

One of the more popular zombie series is Highschool of the Dead. It doesnt really break the zombie show formula at all: group of people try to survive, zombies come in waves, protagonists try to search for a cure and learn how to distract them, etc.

However, the cast is pretty likable. And the pacing is solid. So if zombie shows are your jam, this is a pretty safe pick.

Sadako At The End Of The World Manga Review

Top 10 Best End Of The World Anime | Post-Apocalyptic Anime

-Written by: Krystal

Like many children who were watching horror films way younger than they probably should have, I remember seeing one of the American versions of The Ring on TV when I was about ten. I remember seeing the scene where the main male character was sitting on his couch and the girl on the TV crawled out. I then remember quickly turning the channel as fast as I could because I was convinced that she was going to crawl through my TV next. Now that Im an adult, I know the general plot of The Ring , I’ve seen the prank videos of a girl crawling out of TVs at an electronic store, but Ive never gotten around to seeing any of the films. The reason why I point this out is because it directly affected my feelings about this book, because Sadako is the demon girl from The Ring.

I think part of the reason we dont know what happened is so that we focus more on Sadakos struggles. Like I mentioned before, everyone she meets is very kind and isnt afraid of her in the slightest. You can tell that she cares about the girls, but her curse forces her to kill everyone within the first seven days of meeting them. At the end she even promises Al that they can be together forever and thinks that after she kills the girls shell be able to join them in the after life. I wont completely spoil the ending but I will say it was sad.

Why It Rocks

  • Good voice acting in both sub and dub.
  • Great soundtrack.
  • Excellent animation, especially during the fight scenes and the dramatic scenes.
  • Very appealing art style and character designs.
  • Interesting post apocalyptic setting.
  • It either alters or goes entirely against lots of tropes that people were pissed off about in terms of generic light novel anime.
  • The main character, while being strong, isn’t nearly as overpowered as typical.
  • While the main character does disagree with the main female character being blindlingly willing to sacrifice herself like you might expect from this type of show, he doesn’t just state his ideology. He first decides to prove that she isn’t strong enough by defeating her single handedly, and then attempts to come up with an alternate way for the world to be saved, like an intelligent character.
  • Oh, yeah, and the main character is very intelligent, which is a relief.
  • Engaging, well-written drama.
  • Heartwarming romantic undertones between our two leads.
