Where To Read Bakuten
The Backflip!! manga started in January 2021, and so far, it’s still running. Drawn by Kei Sakuraba, the series has amassed a total of only one collected volume so far, although given that it’s only about a year old and takes from the anime, this makes sense. It’s unknown if further chapters will be more original and influence the anime’s story or if the manga and anime will begin to diverge in their plot.
Since there’s very little to bring over just yet, the single volume of the Backflip!! manga has yet to be released outside of Japan. However, as more story is added to both versions of the series in the next year, this will likely change.

Where To Watch Bakuten
As mentioned, the Bakuten!! anime is the progenitor of the franchise, and despite it releasing a few months afterward, the manga version of the story adapts it and not the other way around. The series was written by Toshizo Nemoto and directed by Seishiro Nagaya and Toshimasa Kuroyanagi. It was handled by production studio Zexcs, who had previously worked on lower-key anime productions and never made anything particularly major. The 2021 anime series was officially part of “Zutto en Project 2011 + 10…”, which was meant to commemorate the 2011 tsunami and earthquake in Japan.
The series ran for 12 episodes from April until June 2021, but that’s not the end of the story. A movie continuing the series was announced after the show ended, and this is currently scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2022. Before that comes out, however, fans will want to rewatch the series or enjoy it for the first time. To do so, all they need is an account with either Crunchyroll or VRV, where the series can be streamed in its entirety. So far, there hasn’t been an English dub or DVD/Blu-Ray localizations, so fans will have to watch the series with subtitles as they await the movie continuation.

Bakuten Movie Release Date
While fans were expecting Bakuten Season 2 announcement, the makers announced the Bakuten movie on 22 January 2022. The premiere date was set for July 2022 in Japanese theatres. Now we have a specific date to Backflip!! movie and that is Saturday, 2nd July 2022. A teaser trailer of the movie was also revealed while making the announcement.

One series that is getting rave reviews is the men’s gymnastics sports series Backflip. Filled to the brim with wonderful animation and a story that is slowly unfolding, Backflip is proving to be the underdog series of the season.
In this series, the first episode starts with a kid named Shotaro who is finishing his junior high career as a perpetual bench warmer on his baseball team. He is definitely an athlete, having already done swimming and soccer as well, but now he finds himself lacking in direction and is unsure what to do with his high school career. That is until he stumbles across a men’s high school rhythmic gymnastics meet and sees a routine by Ao High School who, even though they don’t win, still impresses Shotaro to the nth degree.
So much so, in fact, that when asked what he wants to do with his high school career by his parents, he decides to attend Ao High just so that he can join the rhythmic gymnastics team! This story will be a coming-of-age teamwork story about a young man attempting to find his place on the team as the resident newbie and in the world at large.
Telling an original story that can’t be spoiled by anyone, studio Zexcs is handling the animation with Toshimasa Kuroyanagi serving as the director. They are working off scripts written by Toshizo Nemoto. The series is scheduled to run for 12 episodes.

The official website for the Bakuten!!Reina Ueda is joining the show’s cast as Ayumi Futaba, Shtar’s younger sister. She is still treated as the baby of the family despite being already a second-year junior high school student. She and her brother are close, and she loves her mother’s homemade dumplings.

As of Tuesday, April 20th, 2021, the only place to watch Backflip legally is on Crunchyroll where it is streaming weekly in its original Japanese with subtitles. There are currently no announced plans to stream the series with an English dub, but we will update this article should this change.
Backflip is an amazing series so far and while they haven’t done much with the overall story yet, it’s still just so fun to watch and I predict there will be many tears shed by the time this series comes to a close as these teammates grow closer together and bond over their shared love of the sport they’re competing in.
