Why Have A Canon Policy

Anime Talk: What is Canon?

In the past, when the wiki could just focus on the manga and the anime, all that was necessary was making a distinction between what appeared in the manga and what appeared in the anime. However as time went by, the Naruto franchise branched out into more forms of media, such as games, novels, movies, and stage plays. In doing so, many things such as term explanations, plot points, and the like have appeared in one form of media with the expectation that it could carry over into others. For example, the Kiba swords first appeared in the Kurosuki Family Removal Mission arc of the anime before being showing shown in Volume #55.

What this has caused over the years where situations where conflicts in what was stated in one form of media would be argued against what appeared in another. Arguments would flare up over what information is to be presented in the article and where. The purpose of this policy is to bring a permanent end to these discussions by giving everything a classification of canon and have them presented as such.

Anime Arcs You Never Knew Were Actually Non

Filler can either add more depth to the show or completely miss the mark and make fans want to skip all filler.

One thing about anime that fans can either love or hate is filler. Filler is what happens when the anime catches up with the manga. So in order to avoid a hiatus or the possibility of being canceled an anime series will create filler so the manga can have more time to produce more content.

The creation of filler also leads to the concept of non-canon in anime. Non-canon is content that is anime exclusive, meaning that the content isn’t in the original manga making it non-canon. Filler can either add more depth to the show or completely miss the mark and make fans want to skip all filler.

What Does Canon Mean In Star Wars

In Star Wars, the canon is the fictional universe of this movie that pertains to the original series from 1 to 6. Star Wars Expanded Universe is closely tracked by Lucasfilm so that the continuity and canon of the story remain and there are no contradictions.

When Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm declared the EU released before the acquisition as non-canonical legends. This label did not include the first six films, the TV series, and The Clone Wars 2008 film.

The Original Six Films Were:

  • Star Wars: A New Hope
  • Star Wars: The Empire
  • The Return of the Jedi- Star Wars
  • Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
  • Attack of the Clones- Star Wars
  • Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Material released after the Disney acquisition has a separate timeline from the original films, yet the Lucasfilm story group still supervises all the story developments.

The Star Wars creators categorize the movies/stories into two timelines, Canons and Legends. This happened because Disney did not use all the materials of the original Expanded Universe.

So, creators labeled the stories Canons after the Lucasfilm acquisition and the stories before the acquisition as Legends .

Star Wars Canon Are as Follows:

  • All comics and books released after 2014
  • Films from Episodes I-IX, Rogue One, Solo
  • Star Wars video games
  • TV shows: Rebels, The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Resistance

One Piece Film: Strong World

The anime’s tenth theatrical film, Strong World, is to date the only film directly written by Eiichiro Oda. This fact was greatly publicized in its promotional materials allegedly, a few even stated that Oda considered it part of the manga storyline, though this remains unconfirmed.

As a whole, Strong World is among the films most conciliatory with the manga storyline, fitting into the several-day gap between the Thriller Bark Arc and the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. Nevertheless, fans have cited several inconsistenciesmost notably that it features Zoro fighting at full health, when similar exertions on Saobaody quickly reopened his wounds from Thriller Bark. In addition, none of the film’s plot developments have ever been referenced in the manga, even in passing.

Further muddling the issue, the film’s main antagonist Shikiis generally considered part of the canon. In addition to being conceptualized and designed entirely by Oda , he has been referenced twice in manga storylinesthe Impel Down Arc and the Wano Country Arcotherwise unrelated to Strong World, though only by epithet and never by name.

Apart from Shiki, the only Strong World-original element to be even tangentially referenced by the manga is the plant Daft Green, which apparently has non-poisonous variants on Rusukaina.

Soul Eater: The Ending Arc Was A Dissapointment

What Do You Mean By Canon In Anime

The ending of Soul Eater is non-canon and completely different from the manga. Many fans can’t help but feel disappointed with how the anime ended things. The final battle between the Maka and the Kishin showcases Maka being half weapon– which is something never mentioned in anime at all.

And fans never get to see if Soul was ever able to become a Death Scythe- something the anime focused heavily on in the beginning. Overall, the ending of the anime cut out and changed so many things from the manga.

What Even Is Fandom

What Exactly Is ANIME CANON?

A fandom is simply a community of fans, be they online or off, active or passive. The word “fandom” is botha collective noun, describing many fandoms and subfandoms as one giant body of fans, and a singular one referring to a single fandom. The earliest known print usage of the term comes from an 1896 Washington Post sports column describing “local fandom.”

The idea of fandom grew hand in hand with the rise of male-dominated science fiction fandom in the early 20th century, which mostly centered on books and short stories. It wasn’t until the ’60s and ’70s that women began forming fandom spaces for themselves, mainly focused on sci-fi and genre television.

These spaces have largely evolved into what constitutes “fandom” on the internet today: communities of fans focused on creating fanworks, as well as on actively consuming media in a collaborative digital social environment. Fandom is vast and huge, and it’s anything but monolithic. Many fans will often distinguish between several hugely different fan cultures: sports fandom, which is its own cultural juggernaut traditional sci-fi and fantasy fandom, a descendent of its early-20th-century beginnings pop music and celebrity fandom, which tends to congregate heavily on mainstream social media spaces and online, female-dominated, fanworks-based fandom. In most fanworks-based communities, you are generally assumed to be female unless you say otherwise.

What Is Canon In The Context Of Fandom

Canon are sources accepted and considered genuine by fandoms. The material could be a novel, film, TV show, concert tour, or comic book. Canons may be different even within the fandom as individuals may vary in their preferences.

Canon could extend to props, as prop canons and characterizations. The plots or stories should not only be consistent but also the traits of the characters.

Examples of prop canons are birth certificates they should show the exact dates of birth in episodes where they appear.

Characters in the story should also stay true to their form. An example is that Harry Potter cannot act as Voldemort and vice versa. They have their own canon characters to portray.

Unless the author creates a plot explaining the change, the characters traits must also be canonical for the specific characters in their Expanded Universe.

How Did The Canon Company Get Its Name

The companys name Canon originated from Kannon, a Buddhist term. Later, it became Kwanon or Kuanyin. The company then produced Kwanon, the first-ever Japanese prototype camera.

Since then, the company converted Kwanon to English as Canon. The companys name changed from Precision Optical Industry Co. Ltd. in 1937 to Canon Camera Co., Inc. in 1947. The company shortened the name to Canon Inc. in 1969.

Why Is Dbgt Not Canon

Given the series wasn’t written by Akira Toriyama and therefore is not a part of his original story, Dragon Ball GT isn’t considered canon to the franchise’s manga. … The series could take place in an alternate universe that is almost identical to the one we see our main cast venture through during Dragon Ball Z.

What Does Mixed Canon/filler Mean

I was looking up a filler episode guide and I saw where it says some episodes are mixed canon/filler.

Does that simply mean that some scenes in the episode are canon and some are filler? Or something else?

I think what you said might be correct or in MHA for example, some episodes for the side character in Class 1-A are canon events that have a few panels in the manga but get expanded upon in the anime. So technically they are filler but still canon.

It is as you said. Mixed canon/filler is used to describe the audience’s reaction to that filler. Canon meaning acceptance, and Filler meaning low-quality or used to take away from the material at ease to allow the use of chapters that never got its airing or is man-made within the production. By doing this, if you add in “mix”, you get both of these. Mixed canon and filler is build within the audience’s acceptance towards a new character, pacing, and or the narrative that will take place at hand. this rarely happens though. 🙂

Who Is Astas Father

Its also a possibility that Asta is also a child of Licht. Similarities are that Asta has the exact same Grimoire that his father had before. Astas Grimoire used to be the 4 leaf Grimoire of Licht, but changed in 5 leaf after Licht turned into a Demon. In my opinion both Asta and Yuno are Licht and Tectias Son.

Sailor Moon: Makai Tree Arc Adds Depth To The Show

What Does a Canon Broly Mean for Dragon Ball? – One Shot

Season 2 of the original Sailor Moon also known as the Makai Tree Arc is surprisingly non-canon. In this season, Usagi Tsukino’s memory has been wiped, and she’s now back to living her normal life. However, there has been an emergence of a Maki tree and two aliens know as Ali and An. In order to get rid of these new aliens, Luna has no other choice but to reawaken Usagi’s memories.

Many fans consider this arc to be canon since it adds so much depth into the show, for instance, things like Usagi’s new transformation, how they got their memories back, and the moon rod.

  • Anime canon: episodes or arcs that are considered part of the official timeline despite not being part of the manga. For example, Sumire is an anime canon character that was put into the manga later on, the same as the school trip arc that didnt happen in the manga but it was mentioned.

Filler: episodes or arcs that are considered non canon, either because it doesnt fit the timeline, it doesnt add anything to the plot or development for characters or simply because the author didnt have any kind of relationship with that work. For example, the fillers of Mecha Naruto or the Infinite Tsukuyomi dreams.

  • Anime canon is not in the manga but it develops a character. You will see a lot of characters use anime canon abilities in manga canon. Also it makes the characters seem more human. In the mitsuki arc they find out he is a synthetic human. Ut takes them a long time to process it and they wonder if a synthetic is worth saving. They end up doing that. In the manga he tells them he is a synthetic being they were suprised for one panel and it wasnt brought up again. Also in the timeslip arc he learned to understand people instead of judging them first and thats why he could understand Kawaki.

Filler was not written or helped by the writer or Kishimoto himself. Its not only never brought up again they actually get abilities they dont have in canon. And then they dont use them in canon settings.

  • What Is An Ova Episode

OVA, known as original video animation, is generally available for the video market first without getting a television broadcast or theatrical release. However, some producers also release small clips of the OVA series on television and in theatres for promotional purposes, which helps them attract more viewership.

Initially, the OVA was only popular in Japan. But within a short time, the OVA episodes gained popularity all over the world. Because of the increase in interest of the audience, producers are making OVA a vital part of anime series.

Unlike the filler episodes, the OVAs also contain scenes that help in story building. DVDs, Blue-rays, and VHS tapes are the prime sources producers use to release the OVA episodes.

Further, OVAs are subdivided into episodes similar to anime for television broadcasts. Mostly, you will find only one episode in a single OVA media. The length of each OVA episode varies from title to title.

Some OVA episodes run only for a few minutes, while others may take hours to complete. Though there is no standard length of OVA episodes, still mostly episodes are around 30 minutes long.

Other than this, the length of episodes in a particular OVA can also vary. For example, if I talk about the OVA GaoGaiGar Final, the size of its first seven episodes was around 30 minutes, while 50 minutes was the length of the last episode.
