We finally get to see the backstories for characters like Yugiri, the courtesan from the 19th century, as well as find out more about the area of Saga. Saga, the prefecture of Japan that the idol group is looking to bring life back to, seems to be under a curse causing unfortunate accidents to happen to it, preventing it from ever flourishing. The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya
Generally considered the best English dubbed anime series of all time, this Japanese work is great because it has a touch of all the top genres . For example, the main character is not a standard male self-insert lead who wins through strength or kindness against all odds but rather very average in every way and has no special abilities. The other characters are also well-drawn and help add to the story instead of acting as stereotypical tropes for other characters to bounce off.
Fruits Basket: The Final
Fruits Basket lures viewers in with the promise of a cute story about a family that turns into animals when theyre hugged, then absolutely disarms with boatloads of generational trauma. In the last season, all of this starts to culminate, as plucky orphan Tohru Honda tries to break the curse binding the Sohma family to domineering family head Akito. But because this is Fruits Basket, everyone has their own share of trauma, Akito included. The emotional final season of Fruits Basket reveals that all is not what it seems when it comes to Akito. The Seven Deadly Sins
Although there has been some debate over whether the sub or dub of The Seven Deadly Sins is better, with both sides having some strong points, this points to just how good of an alternative the dub is. The Sin of Wrath, Meliodas, is the heart of the show, and having Yuki Kaji, the voice actor of Eren in Attack on Titan, playing him in the sub is hard to top.

However, with six other Sins and a whole host of demons and human characters rounding off the show, there are plenty of performances in the dub that stand out over the sub. Diane and Ban are just two of the characters that the dub gets the best out of with some amazing voice acting.
How Not To Summon A Demon Lord
Usually, the job of an anime dub is to try to do justice to a show and try to match the original audio. In rare cases like How Not To Summon a Demon Lord, however, the dub can give new life to a show and make it even better. Set in an alternative fantasy world full of fanservice where shut-in gamer Takuma Sakamoto is summoned, the show already didn’t take itself too seriously.
The dub simply took this point and ran with it, making a dub that’s over-the-top, self-aware, and outright hilarious with some of the choices it makes. While the script does give respect to the original, it’s very clear that the team behind it was having fun with it and it only makes things better.

Better Subbed: Attack On Titan
Not every anime in a Euro-esque setting works better as a dub, as is the case with Attack on Titan. Though this series has lost a bit of steam as it entered its second season, the first season is explosive and brutal and amazing all at once, and it is best enjoyed with its original Japanese voice acting.
The reason for this is that the yelling and dramatic acting hit much harder in Japanese we can’t quite put our fingers on why, but there is something much more devastating about the dramatic high points in the sub than in the dub.

Top Dubbed Anime For Mature Audiences
So I’ve compiled a list of english dubbed anime I’ve watched. Most of it is geared towards late teen to adult viewers . It consists mainly of murder mysteries psychological thrillers adventure and normally contain really strong male leads. Decided to add yu-gi-oh and pokemon too since they were childhood favourites. DBZ too but that can also be for an older audience. Again I’m not into the childish humor and over the top stuff you get in anime. So if you’re looking for mature anime with good plots and characters then this list is for you. There are obvious a couple of childish sorta ones. If you’ve watched anime you’ll know what I mean. However the ones that are like that are still great due to other aspects that help you overlook it.There are a few on the list people will say shouldn’t be there like Bleach and Sword Art Online. But I think it’s just people slamming mainstream series because they like to appear as an individual. They are actually two of the best shows on the list. The plot/story development and character development is spot on along with the voice acting.I’ve listed them in no particular order although I have put some of my favourites at the top.

Better Subbed: Death Note
This was another tough decision, since the dub cast of Death Note gave a stellar performance, coming close to the quality of the dub. However, at the end of the day, the dub just can’t compete with the sub, which has some wonderfully tense and emotional dramatic performances.
Perhaps the best example of this comes in comparing the final scenes of the dub and sub, Light’s tragic cries of pain and his evil speech feel so much more guttural and hit much harder in Japanese.

Better Subbed: Kill La Kill
Kill La Kill is another anime where the dub cast did a fantastic job, and since it features a wide range of English VA’s filling the role, all of whom who put out some great work. Because of this, we were tempted to put it in the “better dubbed” category. However, when comparing the dub and the sub, the sub still wins.
The main reason for this is that the Japanese cast really brings some amazing performances with poignant deliveries for both comedy and drama. Additionally, since the main setting is a Japanese school, the series’ original language fits better.

Next up we have Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The series follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric as they seek to find the philosopher’s stone so they can restore their bodies back to normal.
The series’ setting is part of the reasons why we think this anime worked better dubbed the country of Amestris, was inspired by industrial Europe, so hearing these characters speak English fits very, very well. Not that the characters can’t speak Japanese, it is a fantasy world after all, but the dub cast really brought their A-game, making for the, in our opinion, superior version of the series.

Anohana is the symbol of the flower that will never fade off.
Jinta Yadomi has been concerned to the point of being irritated by Meiko Menma Honma, who he believes is an illusion because of an extremely hot day.

This anime is about a guy who had his life taken away from him. But then he got a second chance to live in another world. He was given an item that will allow him three wishes if used properly. If he uses them, then he can go back home or bring people with him too who have been killed.
The show has some good comedy scenes if you are watching it for something funny to watch. If you are not, its still worth giving it a try because it has some cool stuff that happens later in the series, especially towards the ending.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures is weird, and unlike the previously discussed Soul Eater, it isn’t really a gateway anime. But for those who love to watch anime and are looking for a crazy series to obsess over, we highly recommend checking out JoJo in its subtitled format.
The main reason for this is that the crazy nature of the series feels more unique and fun in Japanese. However, another good reason to watch the sub is that characters with names based on American trademarks aren’t forced to have their names changed, thus more is preserved in the original.
