Must Watch Anime Summer 2017

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated

Top 10 MUST WATCH Anime of Summer 2017
  • Studio: Silver Link
  • Streaming: Crunchyroll

Anime fans have probably seen manga stills of Jahy online, as the series source material already had a healthy following before the anime aired. The series follows the titular Jahy, a powerful demon who is transported to the human world after being stripped of her power and shrunk.

The series puts Jahy in a variety of hilarious situations, and the anime has done a great job of capturing the mangas humor so far. The anime aired pretty late into the summer season, and so will continue on into the fall.

Summer 2017 Anime Season Watching Update

We are now nearing the end of this summer season. Time flies so fast, it was like yesterday when new summer animes released their first episode. Lel. Let set aside the OA drama, I want to share to you guys an update of my watching list. This is kinda overdue, I was planning on posting this in the middle of the season, but..I forgot. So now, before this season ends, Imma give at least this one post to show what animes Im still watching, what animes I will binge after this season ends and what animes I dropped.

I am going to include the spring leftovers, afterall, I am watching some of them along with the summer animes.

Still Watching:

18if One of the underrated animes this season. This is quite an enjoyable ride so far. I cant seem to drop this no matter what others might say. It is episodic, but the short stories in every episode were really interesting. The execution of the stories were also good. This anime is nice to watch weekly and it doesnt drag the main premise.

Aho Girl This anime makes me laugh every week. This show is stupid, and I really really like it. Sometimes, they do have segments that are not funny. But before you even react to them, the scene changes and a new segment starts. Im totally okay with that. It totally redeems the boring scenes of the anime.

Boku no Hero Academia Do I need to explain this?!?! Its Boku no Hero Academia. Its a must watch.

Detective Conan Its Detective Conan, my all time favorite anime. Why would I not watch this???

Anime Series Where The Main Character Gets A Redo Of Their Youth

Who has time to watch every single series in a new season? If you are a busy person, let us sample anime for you. This way, you can binge watch it after the season is over and dont have to agonize over which show is worth watching. If you are looking for Summer 2017 anime to watch this Fall, look no further.

*Note As usual, this excludes sequels like My Hero Academia and in this special case, the new Fate/Apoc series since, while stand alone, you benefit from knowing at least a little of the universe.

Lupin The Third Part V

Yves Saint Laurent once said, “fashions fade, style is eternal” its an iconic quote you can — in all seriousness — attach to Arsene Lupin the III 2018’s Part V, the third series this decade after almost 30 years away from TV, was yet another highly stylish, amusing, and seemingly effortlessly entertaining entry into one of anime’s most enduring franchises. Part V not only perfectly integrates Lupin into the modern world by having him and his iconic quintet — wisecracking sharpshooter Jigen, no-nonsense master swordsmen Goemon, bewitching con artist Fujiko Mine, and the ever persistent Inspector Zenigata — incorporate high technology into their elaborate schemes, it also included a number of enjoyable standalone episodes that properly pay homage to Lupins almost 50 year history on television, each one a sharp reminder that while other titles flame out, the escapades of everyone’s favorite lanky, horny, eternally stylish master thief remain timeless. —CI

Ping Pong The Animation

Anime of 2017

This sports anime succeeds on its zippy, ripped-from-the-page art style influenced directly by its source material manga written and illustrated by Taiy Matsumoto. Director Masaaki Yuasa’s anime frames the ping pong matches almost like fight scenes, with the characters’ lunges and swats exaggerated to hyperbolic extremes. The results put some audiences off, but no other anime looks quite like it. —EVB

Clean Freak Aoyama Kun

Best Summer Anime 2017

Another slice of life anime that takes place mostly in and around school, Clean Freak! Aoyama Kun brings all the laughs and confusion youd expect from an anime with that title while keeping things grounded in the real world. The series follows Aoyama, a new student and an absolute master of soccer. He has just one major flaw, he absolutely hates dirt, which can often get in the way and create some hilarious situations.

It probably sounds kind of silly at first glance, and thats because it is. But theres enough drama and great sports animation to make this series more intriguing than youd expect. Plus, the antics that Aoyama and his friends get into and simply watching him go nuts clean is super fun. You can watch it Clean Freak! Aoyama Kun on Crunchyroll where it just started a couple of weeks ago.

Food Wars: Shokugeki No Soma: The Third Plate

Top 5 MUST WATCH Anime of Summer 2017

What Itâs About: Now in its third season, Food Wars! is a thrilling shonen anime where students at an elite culinary school compete by cooking. For those new to the series, the prepared food has a tendency to blow the clothes off of the characters who eat it which, more often than not, is as fan service-y as it sounds.

Why It Sounds Good:Food Wars! is awesome because of its blend of heart and excitement, and while this was certainly present in its second season, the season was bogged down by the sometimes repetitive Autumn Elections Tournament storyline. Simply by changing things up, Season 3 could see the anime return to form, but the upcoming struggle against the Council of Ten also sounds like thoroughly intense material for the show to dive into.

When Itâs Out: October 3.

Where To Watch It:Crunchyroll.

An earlier version of this article included Dies irae, which was removed because â at least in its first episode, labeled as episode zero â itâs depiction of characters who are basically Nazis makes light of an issue we face today, and itâs a terrible show so far. We regret the error.

A Place Further Than The Universe

Yes, A Place Further than the Universe was another “cute girls doing cute things” series, the “thing” being a trip to Antarctica. However, what separates this show from the avalanche of moe series that saturated many anime seasons earlier this decade, was its intelligent, mature writing , the four wonderful girls we follow to the top of the world, a group we have the pleasure to see grow both separately and together during their journey, and its exquisite presentation the kind of high animation quality expected from Madhouse, one of the longest running and accomplished anime studios of the past 40 years. —Christopher Inoa

My Next Life As A Villainess: All Routes Lead To Doom Season 2

15 Must

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! was one of the biggest surprises of the Spring 2020 season, putting a fun and mischievously clever twist on Isekai fantasy anime. The first season saw its protagonist Catarina reincarnated not as a stalwart heroine, but the ostensible antagonist of an otome dating sim game. Catarina used every ounce of her knowledge as a gamer to pre-empt any scenario that would lead to her untimely demise, all while inadvertently nurturing the affections of every romanceable NPC in the games world. In season 2, it looks like shell be doing much of the same and were not complaining.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Season 2 premieres July 2 in Japan. Where the series will stream in the U.S. has yet to be announced.

Battle Girl High School: Battle Girl Project

Best Summer Anime 2017

Battle Girl High School is one of the more fun entries on this list. The story is set in the future where these mysterious invaders suddenly appeared and threatened humanity. Its not clear where they came from exactly, but what is clear is that they must be stopped and the world is in desperate need of heroes. Thats where the Shinjugammine Girls Academy comes in. Theyre just ordinary girls who are will to fight against the invaders to reclaim their home.

Battle Girl High School: Battle Girl Project is full of some solid action and, as youd expect, some fun humor to keep you invested. The only issue is its not available on any US streaming services. But, if you can get access to Hidive or AnimeLab, you can start catching up with this brand new series and root for girls all over the world.

Idaten Deities In The Peaceful Generation

Idaten Deities in the Peaceful Generation is Seimei Kidokoro’s first time in the director’s chair but with a fantastic studio like MAPPA behind them, this is looking like it will be an incredible series.

The story is set to take place in a world where battle gods no longer exist but the demons they once contained with their power have broken free. It results in an epic battle royale where several summoned gods must use anything from might to political conspiracy to attain victory.

The 7 Best Anime Coming Out In Fall 2017

There’s more to be excited about than the return of ‘Food Wars!’

New season, new potentially awesome anime. And despite a few clear duds among the 50-plus new and continuing fall series, the new season looks like it wonât be slacking off in comparison.

From an anime about 12 warriors named after the animals of the Chinese Zodiac, to a show thatâs like Naruto with magic, to a returning series about culinary school students who compete by cooking, these are the anime weâre most excited about for fall 2017. Spoiler alert: The anime adaptation of My Girlfriend Is ShoBitch did not make the cut.

Note: This article will be updated with streaming platforms as they are announced, and as pages where the anime can be streamed become available.

The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K

Fall 2017 Anime Season: 5 Must Watch Shows

Bright pink-haired psychic teenager Saiki Kusuo is constantly inconvenienced by his naïve parents, maniacal brother, and group of idiot friends in the hilarious gag series nestled on Netflix. Part of what makes this show so charming is Saiki’s seemingly limitless telekenesis bound by very basic restrictions and impedepents, the near-episodic references and fourth-wall breaking, and an uncanny self-awareness that’s just as ironically ambivalent about making anime as you are watching it. —LB

Food Wars The Third Plate

Although the series may not have finished airing yet, the innovative and delicious dishes featured on Food Wars! will give you a foodgasm. While Yukihiras journey through the ranks of Ttsuki Culinary Academy is a compelling reason to watch the show, its the flavorful dishes that make the series one of the best anime of 2017.

In every episode, the students of the Academy engage in intense and equally delicious food battles to be at the top. These encounters lead to dishes that will make even put chef Ramsays entrées to shame.

My Next Life As A Villainess: All Routes Lead To Doom X

  • Studio: Silver Link
  • Streaming: Crunchyroll

My Next Life as a Villainess was one of last years most popular titles. The light-hearted Isekai mixed in a variety of genres and made for an enjoyable watch. The announcement of a second season had many fans overjoyed.

With Katrina having avoided all possible death flags, she assumes herself to be safe from any of Fortune Lovers pitfalls. Unfortunately for her, theres more to the game than she remembered, forcing her to continue on without knowing what comes next.

The Best And Worst Anime Of Summer 2017 Poll

Were at that time of the season again and while I know a lot of shows are still ongoing I am calling for votes to start for the best and worst of the season. Like last season you are allowed to vote for more than one show and you can write in a title if I left it off the list .

Voting will close on the 2 of October so please share and I cant wait to find out what people have loved and hated this season.

First up, the best of the Summer Season. As always, by best I am merely asking for the show you found the most entertaining. It does not actually need to be technically proficient or a masterpiece, just fun to watch and something that you eagerly looked forward to each week. If you want to give your reasons, please leave a comment.

Secondly, we have the worst of the Summer Season. While it might be fun to slam shows just for existing, Id like to ask that we keep to shows you actually watched the majority of and they just didnt get any better or do anything recommendable. So while the result may not actually be the worst show out there, it should reflect the worst show that people actually watched.

Thanks for your votes and again, if you d like to tell us what you voted for an why, leave a comment and we can get the conversation going.

Thanks for reading.

If you enjoyed this post and like the blog, consider becoming a patron to support further growth and future content.

Get ready for some bureaucratic hijinks as Kazuya and his court rebuild that nation from the ground up!

How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom premieres July 4 on Tokyo MX and BS11 in Japan and will stream this summer on Funimation.
