This anime excels as a fantasy, drama, and adventure anime for providing as much realism as is possible within a fantasy setting and managing to make an audience care about its protagonists in only a few episodes. This is for those fantasy fans who are looking for something more serious in their anime diet.
Could Beat: Shichika Yasuri Is A Sword That Can Break Any Blade
While not literally a blade, Katanagatari‘s Shichika Yasuri was forged into a blade-breaker in a similar fashion to how an actual swordsmith would make a sword. Shichika is the seventh head of the Kyotoryu school of sword martial arts, a form of combat that hones its practitioners into proverbial blades themselves.

Although he’s never had the chance to slay a dragon, Guts can still use this powerful blade to cut down any opponent, no matter how big they are. Dragon Slayer is much larger than Guts , but he wields it with ease due to childhood experience wielding large blades.
Step Seven: Make The Handle
Choose the wood for the grip – European Beech is often historically used, though any hardwood should work just fine. Cut two lengths needed to fit between the crossguard and the pommel . Round the wood with a belt sander.
Measure the width of your tang at the base and at the tip and mark the inside of the wood, then make a shallow cut along the lines with a hacksaw.
Chisel out in between the cuts. Use a dremel to smooth out the inside so that the wood will rest comfortably next to the tang.
Place the two halves of the grip along the tang, liberally applying epoxy to both of them and clamp them in place for them to dry.
After it’s dry, the grip can be refined a bit with a belt sander to taper it or give it a slightly different shape.

Step Six: Crossguard And Pommel
6.a) Crossguards and pommels are available online if you wish to purchase them, though they will have to be adjusted to fit the tang on your blade. If you want learn how to make a sword cross guard and pommel from scratch, making the crossguard is very similar to steps 1 through 3 design and mark out the shape that you want on your steel, cut out the shape and refine it. For the pommel, if you can obtain a steel rod that makes your job a bit easier.
6. b) Drill holes in the crossguard that will be filed out to make room for the tang. Make sure it is a snug fit, don’t make the holes too wide. Drill through the pommel as well.
6. c) Clean out the rough holes made by the drill using a dremel and a needle file. The holes should be snug enough to the tang that you need a mallet to get them on. The crossguard can be affixed to the tang at this point, though leave the pommel until after the wood for the grip is finished.
Making The Belt Clip And The Tassel
For the belt clip, youll be using Part D. Youll want to be sure that you cut down these lines to free up these flaps for folding.
Tip: After youve done that, fold along every line in toward the center of the piece. Be sure to really crease these folds. It makes it easier to glue everything together.
1. Push the long center part together to form a box shape. Then glue the underside of the top piece to secure it to the piece below.
2. Then work on the two ends one at a time. One side will be rectangular, while the other will be more curved. When folding the flat sides, be sure to glue the end flap to one of the side flaps first, then glue the other side flap on top of those.Tip: This is where those tweezers come in handy if you have them.
3. Set the belt clip aside to dry.
If it didnt turn out quite how you wanted, you can always print out another template sheet and try again!
For the tassel:
1. Cut along the lines on Part E and the two Part F pieces to make the actual tassels.Tip: You might want to use a box cutter here if you have one, just be sure youre cutting on a safe surface and away from yourself!
2. Glue the two Part F pieces to Part E. Line them up along the glue lines, with one on each side!
3. Give it all a second to dry before rolling the entire thing into a tube, then folding along the two lines so that theres flat section in between the two tassel ends.
4. Set aside to dry.
