Tomohito Odas manga began serializing in Weekly Shnen Sunday in 2016 and has been amassed into 21 volumes since then. During its five-year run, Komi Cant Communicate has become incredibly popular for the short-form manga, having sold over 5 million copies. Komi Cant Communicate also won AnimeJapans 2020 poll for the manga fans most wanted to see adapted into an anime. In 2019, VIZ Media began releasing Komi Cant Communicate to North American audiences and so far has translated and published the series first 12 volumes. Volume 13 was released on June 8, with Volume 14 was released on August 10.

Komi Cant Communicate Receives Tv Anime
It was announced that Tomohito Odas manga series, Komi Cant Communicate , will be receiving a TV anime adaptation this October! The announcement was made via an official website for the anime that opened today.

Its Shouko Komis first day at the prestigious Itan Private High School, and she has already risen to the status of the schools Madonna. With long black hair and a tall, graceful appearance, she captures the attention of anyone who comes across her. Theres just one problem thoughdespite her popularity, Shouko is terrible at communicating with others.
Hitohito Tadano is your average high school boy. With his life motto of read the situation and make sure to stay away from trouble, he quickly finds that sitting next to Shouko has made him the enemy of everyone in his class! One day, knocked out by accident, Hitohito later wakes up to the sound of Shoukos meow. He lies that he heard nothing, causing Shouko to run away. But before she can escape, Hitohito surmises that Shouko is not able to talk to others easilyin fact, she has never been able to make a single friend. Hitohito resolves to help Shouko with her goal of making one hundred friends so that she can overcome her communication disorder.

I do hope it will get an anime adaptation hopefully 2021/2022 but from what I’ve heard, it depends on how popular it is in Japan.
As for the studio, people seem to recommend Kyoto Animation which I also approve of.
Kyo Ani would definitely do it justice, they’d be my first pick too.
I’ve been thinking that its been a while since anyway asked this, there even used to be a bot saying how long it was since the last anime post. Now i know nothing about anime or how it’s made, but common answers are.
It depends on the physical sales, so if the big buyers dont buy it then it wont get an anime.
And quite a few people think that the pasting of the manga and how lots of the dialogue is written down or in someone’s head would make it weird on tv.
It’d still be nice to see an adaptation anyway.

Hes around 57 in the Anime and is small in appearance. He has short black hair as well and kind of looks similar to Komi in some aspects.

Will It Ever Gets An Anime Adaptation
Rumors are spreading 2 years ago that Komi-san will probably gets an adaptation in the near future but until now we got nothing. There are few reasons why Komi-san can’t get anime adaptation until now despite of its popularity.

I don’t see it working as an anime. Although there are similar manga that gets anime adaptation like Senryuu Shoujo and Karakai Juzo no Takagi San. I don’t see Komi-san works like them. It has a unique art style that will become problematic if it will get adapted. If the animation studio is not good especially at expressing the feeling and emotions of the character, it might turn out like an average looking anime.

Voice Casting will be hard. Even though the main character aren’t communicating that much, it is still hard for voice actors especially for the character of Najima Osana. She/He is a character with an ambiguous gender so it is still a mystery whether its voice will be either more feminine or masculine.

Merchandising Problem. Komi-san manga might be popular in Japan, but it is still unknown to some countries. So producing its anime might be a big gamble. But who knows maybe foreign Komi-san fans just stays quiet and are waiting for its adaptation to release.

I think the general narrative of the story is pretty significant and I actually like the idea. The other thing to add would be that Komi seems to be a very attractive girl and this will add to her character dynamic since she cant talk. I really get the point of the Anime and I think its going to be a big hit when its released.

Netflix seems to have commissioned the Anime a while back, and a subbed version is available. The question of Netflix also releasing a dub is pretty much settled, they will. Theyve done it for so many other Animes and even Anime that arent even worthy of a dub. You can expect it in at least Spanish or French to follow shortly, or be there when it is released.
